Work Text:
You were humming to yourself, standing by the stove in your warm kitchen and making salmon soup for two. Outside, in the slowly darkening evening, Jakob was plowing your front yard. You hadn't asked him to, instead he had volunteered to take care of it for you. And who were you to object if it was what he'd wanted. Plus, it saved you from a task you didn't particularly enjoy.
You turned your back on the soup for a moment and walked to the window to see how Jakob was doing. You could make out his outline thanks to your porch light. And you could have sworn that he was on his knees in the snow, focused on a task that didn't look like plowing the snow.
"Maybe he's already done with it.."
you wondered to yourself. And then, as your curiosity got the better of you, you turned off the stove and went to put on your warmest hoodie, a beanie and a pair of boots. You just had to know what was going on outside.
Moments later you already opened the door and stepped out onto the porch.
"Jakob? What are you doing?"
you asked in a mix of amusement and confusion as you walked closer to him. He turned to look at you as he heard your voice. His cheeks were delightfully red after being wrapped up in some outdoor activities in the negative temperatures.
"Oh, hey. I was thinking about coming to get you in a bit,"
he said, his breath forming tiny clouds. You wrapped your arms around you. The hoodie was plenty warm, but you still kind of regretted not putting a proper jacket on. However, that regret left your mind very quickly when you saw the way Jakob looked at you; with crinkled eyes and a smile warm and bright enough to melt snow.
"I got done plowing the yard and wanted to build a snow fort. For you,"
he then told you. You breathed out and left the porch, walking down the snowy steps. This was something you had to see.
Soon you were already standing right by Jakob's side and admired the result of his handiwork. He sure had gotten creative. It was also incredibly clear to you that he had put a lot of thought and effort into the fort, which in your mind could also have been a small castle.
"You built me a snow fort and.. What's this?"
You looked down at your feet.
"And spelled my name in icicles? You idiot. I love you."
You turned to face Jakob and saw that he was already looking at you, a warm, soft glow in his beautiful eyes.
"And I love you,"
he said to you in that same tone of voice that always made the butterflies wake up in your stomach, even in the heart of winter.
"It's beautiful,"
you breathed out, voice filled with adoration.
"Yes.. Beautiful,"
Jakob mumbled after you. But he wasn't looking at the snow fort; he was looking at you. Your breath hitched as you saw the look in his eyes.
After a while, after you regained your ability to speak, you remembered the soup still waiting on the stove.
"I think such hard work needs to be rewarded. Food's ready, so.. Come on, let's go in,"
you suggested and Jakob joined you gladly.
The two of you had just made it back into the comforting warmth of the house and taken off your winter clothes when you turned to look at Jakob once more.
"Hey, come here.."
you murmured and gently wrapped your arms around him as soon as you were close to each other.
"I know I already said this out there, but.. I love you,"
you whispered and leaned in closer to kiss him. His arms also naturally found their place around your waist as his lips touched yours.
