Work Text:
Jakob had managed to talk you into going to visit a Christmas market. He had been so giddy about it and filled with that child-like joy. And it hadn't taken long until you'd agreed to it. You had always loved the spirit of the winter holiday, and visiting a Christmas market with your very special somebody felt like the perfect way to spend the day.
In the late hours of the afternoon you both put on your warmest winter clothes and headed out to the snow-covered streets. Talk about a proper winter wonderland. You were looking forward to all the food, and you knew that Jakob felt the same way. He held your hand in his as you made your way down the street.
Jakob could feel his mouth starting to water from the moment you arrived.
"Where should we start?"
he asked you after you'd just walked around for a while, taking in the festive mood. You smiled at him in adoration and then looked around.
"How about there?"
you suggested and pointed at the people selling rice porridge. Jakob nodded in cheerful approval and led you there.
"I want to pay for this. Is that okay with you?"
he said in a low tone next to your ear. You nodded.
"Alright. But don't think I'm going to let you pay for everything,"
you reminded him with a giggle. Jakob gave you a smile and then turned to the vendor, talking to her in his hesitant Finnish. You felt so proud of him for choosing to, in this instance, speak in a language he still wasn't very confident using. You made sure to let him know once he returned to you.
"I'm so proud of you for having the whole conversation in Finnish,"
you told him and touched his cheek with your mitten.
"I did good? I wasn't sure if I—"
he asked and you could feel your heart fill with love.
"Much better than you probably even realize,"
you said and accompanied your words with a nod.
The two of you then walked away from the vendor so you wouldn't be in anyone's way.
"Do you want to have the first bite, or should I?"
Jakob then wondered a little while later, holding onto the little paper bowl filled with porridge.
"I think you should get it, because that back there was really brave,"
you noted, and he handed the bowl and spoon to you with no objections. You scooped up some porridge in the spoon, making sure that Jakob would also get both cinnamon and sugar with the spoonful. Then you brought the spoon up to his face. You saw how he tried so hard not to laugh. He might have succeeded, but the joyous emotion was still present in his eyes.
"Alright, here. Open wide,"
you got his attention, not that it ever had strayed away from you in the first place. He opened his mouth obediently and you fed the spoonful of porridge to him. There was something so child-like and adorable about the whole thing. Those famous butterflies were flying around in your stomach in full effect.
"Mm.. Alright, my turn. Or, is it your turn?"
You laughed at his question and handed him the bowl.
"I don't know, but there you go."
The two of you then took turns feeding the rest of the rice porridge to each other. Both of you felt the pleasantly warm and soft sensation the food left in its wake.
After walking around for a little bit, with you gently holding onto Jakob's arm, he pointed at the people selling hot berry juice and joulutorttu.
"Should we?"
he asked you, and you nodded.
"Yes, it sounds lovely,"
you told him dreamily.
"It's my turn to pay."
You bought two pastries and also two mugs of delightfully warm berry juice. That way both of you would get enough.
"Here you go,"
you said with a smile as you handed Jakob his treats. He thanked you with a smile.
The two of you then enjoyed your snack mostly in silence. Joulutorttu and warm juice really were a great combo and made you feel even better on the inside, as if you hadn't felt incredible all this time. You finished the rest of your drink, secretly already wishing that you could have more. Jakob was a gentleman and dropped all of your trash in a nearby bin. And as he returned, you just couldn't resist pulling him closer and into a kiss.
"I simply adore you,"
you whispered right before your lips touched. The kiss tasted like plum jam and berry juice. It was perfect.
