Work Text:

Dan-Ole had managed to talk Bertel into going with him to visit a Christmas tree farm. Of course Bertel had said yes, he'd do whatever it was for Dan-Ole's happiness, even if their views clashed at times. And even if he could have thought of better, more pleasant ways to spend the afternoon than trying to chase the perfect tree. They had already been there for 45 minutes; Bertel had made a mental note of when they'd arrived. Dan-Ole had been busy talking about the qualities of the best possible Christmas tree. He'd done so with such intensity that was only surpassed by his love and passion for birds. And Bertel had tried to listen, he really had. But most of the endless chatter had gone right by his head. Of course, he'd never tell that to Dan-Ole.

"Bertel, Bertel! I think I found it!"
Dan-Ole's genuinely excited voice called out, pulling him out of his thoughts.
"Come on, you're gonna have to come see!"
He then approached Bertel, took him by the arm and dragged him along to see this wonderful tree.
Only, to Bertel it looked like any other tree around them.
"And.. What's so special about this one?"
he had to ask after circling the tree and looking at it from different angles. Whatever had caught Dan-Ole's attention, Bertel just wasn't seeing it.

"Look at this,"
Dan-Ole instructed and gestured at the branches as a whole.
"Plenty of sturdy branches for decorations! And, and the color! It's a healthy, vibrant green. It means the tree's not dehydrated,"
he explained.
"Dehydrated?"
Bertel repeated, frowning as turned to look at Dan-Ole.
"It's a tree."
"Yes, I know, but even trees can get dehydrated."
"Right.."
Bertel sighed.
"Whatever, you know better. Carry on."

Bertel then learned about things like pliable needles, a pleasant, Christmassy scent and the dense foliage. All of these were apparently very important.
"Yes, Bertel, this is the one! I'm sure of it. It's the right size, too! Not too big and not too short. We're taking it!"

Anything for Dan-Ole.
