"Don't you ever wish we could bring the people in our dreams to life?" Sora asked Kairi as they sat down at a table at the Twilight Diner. Sora took a bottle of ketchup and squirted it onto his basket of fries.
"I feel like I would be lying if I said I hadn't thought about it once or two thousand times." Kairi responded taking a sip of her milkshake.
Sora idly dipped a fry into the puddle of ketchup before he munched down on it.
"Do you ever wish you could make them in real life so that way you'd have someone to love, and never be lonely? Kinda like what Frankenstein?" Sora asked suddenly.
Kairi blinked up at Sora.
"I want you to know I love you when I say this, but you're stupid." Kairi rolled her eyes sitting back and drinking her milkshake. "Is this because of where were at?"
The diner was filled with people. It was a popular place to visit when people came into town with a famous cake for lovers. A Paopu fruit upside down cake. This was the place that Sora and Kairi visited constantly. They would watch the couples eating the cake and judging the village weirdos teasing the tourists loudly.
However...
"It's not my fault! I can't find anyone to love!" Sora cried out propping his hand on his cheek. "I wish people looked like they did in my dreams?"
Sora had eventually seen so much love happen in this place that he wanted someone to share the cake with too. Or the fruit itself. He didn't really care. Sora just wanted someone who loved him.
"Ooooh~ Do tell me everything about the people of your dreams. Who do you fantasize my good dear most beloved friend?" Kairi set down her milkshake immediately and batted her eyes as Sora who looked at her with a face that told her he wouldn't spill so easy. "Please! Please please please please please!!!"
Sora eventually caved after her insistent begging. He sighed and looked out the window watching the outside world pass by.
"He's tall..." Sora started.
"Oh, you like guys." Kairi purred.
"What?" Sora looked back at er incredulously. Kairi waved him off.
"Hush, the closet is glass my friend. Continue." Kairi smiled innocently.
Sora looked like he was regretting ever saying that he had dreams of guys... well, one guy.
"He's tall..." Sora stated again. "He has long silver-grey hair, and pretty blue-green eyes that make me think of the ocean and seafoam."
"Alright you sappy poet, leave some of the flowery words for us normies who want a date."
"Shut up..." Sora banged his head on the table. "It's so stupid..."
Kairi pat his head sipping on her milkshake again.
"Well, you are a little dumb."
Sora sat up and looked out at the crowd again. The couple sitting at the table across from them, the two idiots teasing the couple, long silvery hair and sun-kissed skin-
Sora sat up so quickly Kairi looked around for danger.
"What?! What?!" She called.
"It's him!" Sora gulped fighting the urge to rush up and introduce himself. "That guy at the counter! That's the guy I've seen in my dreams!"
"I think I know him." Kairi tapped her finger on her chin. "I think he works as at the cafe down the road."
Sora wasn't listening right now. He looked lost in the idea of whatever dream he's made in his head. Kairi gaped at him before slapping the back of his head.
"I swear if you do some parasocial crap I'm going to kill you." She bit. Sora rubbed the back of his head with a sad puppy look on his face.
"It's not my fault!" Sora looked over at him again. His eyes were so full of love and fondness. "I've lived lives with him once, and seeing him here makes me think maybe I could have just one life full of love."
"Aww... that's so cute." Kairi smacked him upside the head again. "There is a difference between dreams and reality, Sora. What you've imagined is probably not what he's like at all."
Sora wilted. "Yeah, I know. I wonder if I should even go up to him then. I might hold him to unreal expectations." Sora looked back to him once again. "It's a bad idea if I go over there."
Kairi gave Sora a forlorn look.
"Hey, don't worry. There's plenty of fish in the sea." Kairi patted Sora's shoulder.
For some reason, it made him feel worse...
Sora was droopy ever since he saw the guy of his literal dreams walk out of that diner. Kairi knew not to tease him, but she still joked with him like the sighting of that guy never even happened.
They both went home and that was that. Day was done and that was the end of it.
Sora lost his chance to have a happy ending with the guy of his literal dreams.
Okay, maybe he was being a bit dramatic. Kairi was right. There were plenty of other fish in the sea. He would find the right one for him at the right time, and it would be absolutely perfect.
Sora walked into a cafe he had started to frequent. His brother and his best friends had been there before, and they really liked it so Sora decided to go too. He went once and fell in love with the place.
Sora sighs sadly as he reaches the counter. He was expecting the regular girl who usually was up at the front, but a voice that he recognized made him freeze. Sora looked up quickly as saw the guy of his dreams. Literally.
The guy with pretty eyes and long silvery hair stood there behind the counter wearing and apron showing that he did indeed work there. Now he remembered Kairi saying that he worked there. Why didn't he remember sooner?!
"Hey, welcome in." His voice was gentle. Sora could have a sugar rush based on how sweet he sounded. "What can I get for you?"
Sora had to fix his face so that he didn't look too weird in front of the man of his dreams. He cleared his throat and glanced up at the menu. He was so shaken that he couldn't read what the menu was saying.
"Um... I- uh... what's the sweetest thing on the menu?" Sora asked. He tapped his finger on his chin as he thought.
"Well, a lot of people really like the caramel mocha latte." He said. "It's sweet and I like it too."
"I'll take that one!" Sora said excitedly. Sora noticed that the guy looked at him with a wide-eyed stare making sora blush. "I-I'll take that one..."
He laughed softly and Sora hoped he didn't look like he'd fallen in love with him all over again. He was a stranger to him, and it would be really weird if he looked like he was hung on his every word.
"Alright, I'll get that going for you." He grabbed a cup and began writing on it. "What's your name?"
Sora almost had a heart attack. "Huh?"
"Your name? So I can call out you name when you order is done." Sora wanted to shrivel up and die.
"Right! Right... m-my name is Sora." Sora answered. He was so sure that he was redder than a tomato now.
"Sora..." He'd said so softly and fondly Sora was about to explode. Sora saw him smile softly as he wrote his name in flowy cursive that matched its writer. "I'll get that ready for you. Sit down and I'll call you when it's ready."
Sora nodded quickly and hurried away before he did something stupid or worse, said something stupid.
Sora sat down and buried his face in his hands. He felt like such an idiot.
Sora pulled out his phone an started texting Kairi immediately. He had to convene with the council.
Sora
Kairi! Kairi! SOS! Please I need you to come to the cafe down the street from the apartment! Now! Now! NOW!
Kairi didn't respond immediately but she did respond after a couple minutes leaving Sora enough time to spiral.
Kairi
Is it stabbed SOS or saw a kitten?
Sora
HE'S HERE! THE GUY IN THE DINER IS HERE! HE WORKS AT THE CAFE!
Kairi
I'll be there in five minutes.
Sora hid his face again while he waited.
"Caramel mocha latte for Sora!" Sora heard his name called and he stood up and quickly made his way to the counter. He was standing there with a soft smile. "My name is Riku by the way."
"It's nice to meet you Riku." Sora smiled back at him.
"Have I met you before?" Riku asked suddenly causing Sora to freeze.
What was he supposed to say? "Yeah, we've met before in my dreams." What was this? Some cheesy rom-com or a Disney movie?! No! He would look so stupid if he said that! Kairi would never let him live it down if he did.
"Uhhh.... not that I know of." Sora smiled sheepishly.
"I could have sworn I'd seen you." Riku insisted. Was he trying to get Sora to say something specific? "You look like someone I've seen in my dreams. Someone I've lived lives with."
Apparently it wouldn't have been that weird at all because this guy was just like him in terms of that fact they dreamt about each other.
"Huh?" Sora blanched.
"Sorry." Riku smiled waving off his words. "Ignore what I said. Enjoy your drink."
Sora sat down and began waiting for Kairi.
The whole interaction had him falling down a rabbit hole he wondered if he should crawl out of. Sora picked up his phone to text Kairi again and as he did, he took a sip of his coffee. As he pulled away he almost choked.
Kairi walked in and greeted the guy of Sora's dreams before she made her way over to Sora. She saw his staring at the coffee cup intently his gaze never lingering even once.
"Hey, are you okay?" Kairi asked honestly very worried.
Sora handed her the cup and Kairi picked it up and looked to Sora again.
"He gave you his number?!" She whispered as she sat down.
Sora nodded frantically.
"Are you going to call him?!"
Sora paused before he nodded again.
"Okay." Kairi said. "Let's head out. That way I can get you some pretzels or something. We can't legally drink but do you want sweet tea?"
"Yeah, I'll take that." Sora And Kairi left shortly after, Sora waving to Riku before they left. Kairi teased him the entire way home.
Sora and Kairi quickly made their way inside their apartment and Sora jumped on the couch before he pulled out his phone.
"Hey!" Kairi called. "He's not even off his shift yet!" Sora bit his lip.
"Oh yeah..." Sora wilted.
"Stop looking like a sad puppy." Kairi rolled her eyes handing him a bag of chips. "You'll call him later after the cafe closes."
Sora nodded. So he started waiting.
And waiting...
And waiting...
And waiting...
What time was it?
Only 1:16?! It's only been an hour...
Sora sadly sat on the couch doing nothing but waiting, and even more waiting.
Finally after Kairi gave sora something to do, five PM rolled around and Sora jumped for the phone. He hurriedly entered Riku's phone number and listened to the phone ring.
Once...
Twice...
Three times...
"Hello?"
"Hi, is this Riku?" Sora asked carefully. He heard the softest sigh on the other end of the phone.
"Hello Sora." Riku sounded like he was smiling and it made Sora's heart soar.
"Hi Riku." Sora felt like he was greeting someone he had known for years, not some stranger that he had never crossed paths with before.
But then again... they had met once upon a dream.
