When everyone blew up about Pokémon GO Bakugou Katsuki swore he'd never ever play the damn game.
He ended up muting just about every person he followed on Twitter, stopped using Facebook (because my fuckin god even the teachers were playing!) and he shut off anyone who randomly stopped on the street to stare at their phones, catching whatever stupid Pikachu that'd shown up. So how the game ended up on his phone was quite the mystery (or not really, he knew it was that hair for brains asshole who'd been messing with his phone last week).
And now here he was, walking around downtown, having created his character and trying not to look like all the losers playing this shitty game.
Of course, it was easier said than done when it pissed him the fuck off. He was absolutely sure that he'd thrown the ball at the freakin bird cawing at him but the damn thing wouldn't go inside. No. In fact, the ball would go past the damn thing or it would disappear and he'd have to try again. He gripped his phone, tempted to smash it to the ground, "You little fucker-"
"AH!" his face was assaulted by dark green locks as he almost toppled over some stranger. The guy turned around quickly and shot him an apology but Katsuki short circuited. Are those really his natural eyes? which, fuck, now that he'd thought it he realized he shouldn't be one to talk. But they were just so...bright, and freckles. He didn't know many people with freckles...if any at all.
He scowled, "Watch where you're going ya damn nerd, damn it, can't even walk around town without one of you getting in the damn way!"
A blush immediately adorned the guy's face, "S-sorry, just, I-wait...are you playing too?"
Fuck. Katsuki stashed his phone in his pocket and growled at the stranger, "The hell I am!"
He walked past the shorter male, intent on walking back to the train station and away from this "pokémon heaven" as Kirishima had called it but a call stopped him, "W-wait!" He turned around and was met with a hesitant face, eyes looking away for a second and then hardening in resolve. The stranger's face was set in determination, "D-do you want to walk together?!"
And Katsuki wasn't going to lie to himself, that look both annoyed the hell out of him but also made him think the stranger looked...cute. The way his eyes sparkled just a tad more (he didn't think that was even possible), how his lips were set into a slight frown but then twitched as if frowning were a foreign concept to them, and the slight furrow of those brows. Silence engulfed them momentarily and it seemed to make the stranger uncomfortable as his look of determination began to crumble, his eyes darting slightly.
"Why would I walk with some stranger who just bumped into me?" he questioned, raising an eyebrow at the request.
"Because we're both playing the same game?" The answer seemed sufficient to the stranger as he tilted his head in slight confusion. Probably to weirdos like him it is.
"You make it a habit of asking strangers to walk with you? Because, if you damn well didn't know, families frequent this place and-"
"NO!" the shorter male shouted, his face completely red as he realized the implication, "It's just, I wanted us to hang out, since we're playing the same game-" he mumbled "-besides, you're not exactly the greatest catch with that attitude..."
Katsuki's eyebrow twitched, and a strained smile stretched along his face, "Care to repeat that fuckmunch?"
"That's what I mean! We haven't even been introduced and you're already calling me names!" the stranger shouted, his eyes closing and Katsuki had the urge to pry them open, to tell him not to close them because shit, his eyes were pretty.
He scoffed, "Do what ya want ya damn nerd," and before he could completely turn away those fuckin eyes sparkled, and if the guy were to have ears and a tail he was sure they'd be wagging and shit.
Katsuki started walking in a random direction and the stranger walked next to him, his eyes darting between his phone and Katsuki.
"By the way," he stressed, "My name is Izuku Midoriya, not fuckmunch."
Katsuki said nothing to the invitation or correction, only walking at a fast pace. He would've kept walking if this stranger - Izuku Midoriya - hadn't tugged at his arm, "The fuck!" he growled.
"Ah! It's just- there's Pokéstops, you should get the items," was the suddenly timid response. Katsuki raised an eyebrow and finally took his phone out of his pocket, the damn bird still staring at him. He grunted and tried again. And again he missed. A slight chuckle caught his attention and he turned to glare at his companion. Midoriya coughed, trying to hide his mirth but Katsuki had heard him loud and clear, "This shit funny to you?"
A hesitant smile adorned Midoriya's face as his hand moved to rub his neck, "No it's just- do you want me to show you?"
Katsuki didn't let up his stare for a few seconds, then grunted. Midoriya took that as his cue and he moved closer to the blonde, their sides nearly touching as short fingers came to play on Katsuki's phone, "It's a little tricky at first but just touch the ball and aim at the pokémon, if you see it move it'll dodge the ball but you can also hold it before throwing if you see the pokémon move, like this," he explained. And just like that the bird was caught. The Pokéball twitched a few times and then the screen flashed, informing Katsuki of his new catch.
"Oh, you just started," Midoriya mumbled and Katsuki couldn't help the growl that escaped his lips, "That a problem?"
Midoriya smiled this time, no longer nervous it seemed, "Nope!"
Katsuki felt his face light up a bit and he moved away, standing directly in front of the other male. Midoriya just hummed happily as he collected items and Katsuki just stood there, not really sure what he was supposed to do. On his map the whole place was surrounded by blue towers, pink petals, and some random giant pokémon on top of towers. He glanced at the freckled boy and blinked as he caught the other boy starring. He glared in response because he damn well knew what that shine meant, probably wants to tell me something else the little shit, who does he think he is
So what if he'd ignored everything Kirishima and Denki had spouted about this Pikachu nonsense? He could figure this out without anyone's help! He clicked one of the blue towers and an image showed up. After some fiddling he realized that spinning the images would give him items. He clicked on the other nearby towers and growled when some of them said he was too far away.
"Let's keep moving..." Katsuki looked up from his phone, curious about the pause, "...B-Bakugou..." Midoriya mumbled.
Katsuki's eyes widened slightly, "How the hell do you know my name you little shit?" he nearly screamed.
Midoriya put up his hands, waving them and stampering, "It was on you phone! Since you didn't tell me what your name was! I-I was curious!"
Katsuki looked down at his phone and sure enough, right under his avatar was his name Bakugou Katsuki Level 3. He side eyed Midoriya, a dubious look on his face, which seemed to make the boy blush but not look away. Red looks good on him, he immediately squashed the thought and motioned for the other to keep walking. They moved along in silence but it seemed like that wasn't Midoriya's style as he began talking, "If we go around the monument here and cut through the garden we can gather from a few more Stops, the trail will lead us around the Pavilion. There were a couple Pidgeotto around there, ah, that's the pokémon you just caught, it's a good thing to collect a lot of them so you can evolve your pokémon and make them stronger. Then we can-"
At that point Katsuki tuned out Midoriya, content just listening to his voice because ok, it was really fucking pretty and lighter than he expected for someone his age (they were about the same age, right?). He turned towards the boy, trying to be conspicuous and judged that, yes, they must be around the same age. And why was everything about him so pretty?! Even his tousled hair, which looked more like bedhead tempted him!
His phone buzzed and he looked down, wondering what pokémon had shown up but there was nothing. Instead, a message flashed at the top of his phone, hittin up arcade ya in??? And this was the perfect opportunity to ditch Midoriya but as they stopped once more and he looked at the giant smile directed at him, Katsuki realized he was having fun.
He ignored the message.
