SCI-FI & FANTASY NOTES

11-8-25

Sci-Fi : Real, and unreal characters in a story based on science

Fantasy: Described as real, and un-real characters, based on fantastical situations (All made up, doesn’t actually exist)

Artists that work in these generes try to tend to uncover things about society itself.

EXAMPLE : If you have a show about something that’s a more serious topic, and actually portray it as the situation it is, no one may go to see it due to being uncomfortable about the topic. But if you took that same topic and made it into a different perspective, or analogy. It will trick people into actually listening and taking in the info about the subject because of how palleted it is towards the audience.

OVERALL : They are trying to get people to have a conversation about the movie ( or the situation explained in the movie ) but the reason why authors, and artists have these theme in their media is to actually be able to have a conversation about it.

EXAMPLES IN MEDIA

The Hunger Games - Sci-Fi

This film can be considered a Sci-Fi because of its post-apocalyptic nation setting. It also displays advanced technology, and speculative word-building.

Harry Potter - Fantasy

This media falls into the fantasy category for its completely separate magic word, and mythical animals ( such as unicorns, and dragons ) But overall is very unrealistic making it fall into this label.
