   Summary

   The sun was high and warm, filtering through the kitchen window of their temporary safe house. The air smelled like freshly chopped garlic and veggies, and some K-drama the two were watching was playing in the living room. 

   Jack Wilder stood at the island, expertly slicing bell peppers into precise, even strips. Beside him, Lula May has  been cutting (more like attacking) a head of romaine lettuce with a large, gleaming chef’s knife.
