Summary
"Good girl. Now lower your voice before someone hears. You belong only to me, and you would do well to remember it."
Marian was a calculating woman. Taking her cousin Elizabeth's place to become Lady Beckett was not a difficult decision. Marian, or Ann as she preferred, understood that it was the correct political move for her, for her uncle, and perhaps even for a certain pirate whose name she neither knew nor cared to know. Their brief affair in Singapore had been quite enough.
Yet that same pirate had left a faint, stubborn shadow on her heart, burdening Ann with a shameful fondness for pirates despite everything her position demanded of her.
And who could have predicted Ann would one day seek out the sharp edge of Beckett's detached tone, drawn to the whispers and caresses meant only for her?
