Work Text:
Vic, Barb and Gregg are passed out in the backseat. It’s dark outside, the bushes rushing past the windows as the car moves forwards.
Colette glances out the window, trying to keep from looking at Noa in the seat next to her too much. She didn’t want to come across too strong.
Noa smiles as he drives. Colette notices, out of the corner of her eye. He has a nice smile. One that lights up his whole face.
“Whatcha smiling about?” She asks quietly.
Noa grins a little more as he answers.
“You can see stars! Look!” He nods upwards, and Colette peers out the window.
He’s right, speckled across the night sky are stars, shimmering and twinkling.
“I love stars.” Noa’s voice draws her attention back.
“They’re just so cool, y’know? Like, proof that there’s more out there. That the universe is infinite.”
“Yeah.” Collette says, smiling.
“You a huge star nerd then?” She asks.
Noa laughs softly.
“Yeah I guess you could say so. I dunno, ever since I was a kid they’ve just…fascinated me.”
The car goes quiet for a minute, nothing but the purr of the engine and the soft breathing of the inhabitants inside of it.
“I guess I like the reminder that at the end of the day, there’s so much more to what we see.” Noa says, glancing at her. “That in the grand scheme of everything, we’re all apart of this greater, wider thing. I suppose it’s nice, knowing that even when I feel like I’m not doing my best, I’m still playing a minor part in this huge, beautiful thing.” Noa laughs a little sheepishly.
“Sorry. That was a little cheesy.”
“No, no!” Colette says too quickly. “No…I mean, I’ve never thought about it like that. I like that, a lot.”
Noa glances back over at her, giving her that grin of his. Colette smiles back.
They drive on, the stars above them lighting their way.
