Work Text:

Beomgyu still hasn’t come to completely accept the truth of his life. He still sits in his and his husband’s shared chambers — shared because the said husband is incapable of mere breathing when Beomgyu’s more than an inch away from him — almost daily and looks back at the golden days.

Beomgyu misses the days when he would just go and physically fight with the alpha he was wedded to and he’d fight back, not just defend and kiss Beomgyu’s flailing arms.

Beomgyu misses the days when he still had some pride, the pride of an untouchable omega who might’ve been thrown away by his home kingdom for some peace treaty, but was able to govern and give birth to admirers of his beauty and wisdom everywhere.

Today, Beomgyu is someone different, he lost all his pride the day he cried in his now husband’s arms, when the man — the king of a big, prosperous kingdom — was poisoned, and Beomgyu is partially glad he did that, for it changed his life (mostly sex) forever.

As much as he wishes to go back to his husband being a hungry-for-centuries wolf in bed, because that was the biggest turn on ever, he would never trade the sweet, adorable gentleman he has for himself now, the man who kisses beomgyu’s tears away when he pulls out.

Beomgyu is an omega, he was born to nurture, to support the alphas, to be there and say, “I’ll be able to take it”. Being born into a royal family, he was also trained to be the perfect consort to an alpha ruler. Which he was today, the perfect royal consort of Gyerim, the kingdom of beauty.

After half a year of recovering from poisoning (and finally getting a healthy marriage life — where one doesn’t have to worry about their partner stabbing them to death while they fall asleep — out of it), the king was set to lead a war against hwalin, and Beomgyu had gotten ready for sending his husband to war.

The courtroom was busy, the action plan was being discussed for the final time before the execution which was planned for the next few hours, the king and the ministers all had furrowed eyebrows that represented their focus and business.

“Yeonjun, brother, I think it’s better to leave Gyerim under the protection of Taehyun and Kai, they’ll be enough. Moreover, consort Beomgyu is well trained in swordsmanship for if any unfortunate circumstances were to happen..”, suggested Soobin, the king’s cousin brother and the army general.

Yeonjun sat straight on the throne, in deep thought. Soobin looked at his own husband, Taehyun, who gave him a tight smile, gesturing that he shouldn’t have mentioned the consort’s security, because no matter how much of a mindful and inspiring leader Yeonjun was, he was weak when it came to his husband. If the topic wouldn’t be changed in a short span of time, it’s a high possibility that Yeonjun would just go to war with a group of five people and leave the entire army to guard the castle, where Beomgyu would be staying.

Kai cleared his throat, “Ah, your majesty, I was wondering if we can have our messengers gather information about our allies?”

Kai was successful in driving Yeonjun’s attention to himself, Yeonjun responded with a nod. “That would be necessary, Kai, you shall proceed with the same and infiltrate through our loyal messengers only”.

“Minister Jang, you shall oversee border correspondence and Minister Kim, I hope you’re progressive with supply lines, since the minister general would be busy with the execution of troops in the following days..”

Yeonjun stood up from the throne and earned a greeting from all the ministers before he headed to his chambers. Taehyun followed behind, “Yeonjun hyung, you know I’ll protect Beomgyu hyung with my life, right?”

Yeonjun stopped and turned around with a smile, “Taehyun-ah, do you really think I doubt you? or him? that man has defeated me cruelly in sparring, I do not worry about him!”, he then continued to walk.

“I’ll take it, is that why you’re rushing to see him?”, Taehyun teased, earning a hit from Yeonjun.

“If I was a smart minister, I’d head to see my husband who’s the army general and boost his confidence before he heads to his first war as the general, but maybe, everyone cannot be—“

“Right? Should’ve told me to just go away”, Taehyun said before running back to, Yeonjun knew where.

Yeonjun exhaled out a smile before rushing to the chambers himself. He entered like a thief in his own room, but his scent probably got there before him, with the way he found Beomgyu standing by the window, looking straight at the door, with his arms crossed.

Beomgyu was dressed up in royal blue, he looked very pretty, and all Yeonjun could think was, how can I leave after looking at you looking like this?

“Here you are, why did you not finish reading this to me at night? Now I’d have to wait for the war to end to know what Mr. Fox would do to sunflower!”, Beomgyu scolded, before heading towards Yeonjun and dragging him near the dressing room. Yeonjun let him be, “I’m done with the court for the day”, Yeonjun said.

Beomgyu glared at him, “off”, he said, and Yeonjun took his robes off, not once looking away from the younger man.

You”, he pointed at Yeonjun while bringing the armor, “You’re not allowed to bleed. At all.”

When Yeonjun didn’t reply — he was too busy staring at Beomgyu who was helping him wear the armor — Beomgyu asked, “Do you get it?”, earning a nod from Yeonjun.

“Look at you, scolding me. You’re adorable, my love”, Yeonjun cooed at his husband.

Beomgyu stopped and looked at Yeonjun with annoyance, “Do not call me such cheesy names. Promise me that you wouldn’t come back—“, Yeonjun was quick to cut him off, “You do not wish for me to come back? I thought we were finally getting along!”

That earned him a bunch of punches to his chest, “Shut up, you’re so annoying. Don’t come back wounded, I won’t let you in my room!”

“This is our room, and sure, my love, I promise”, Yeonjun said. “I’ll cure them for you if you will though, just come back to me”, Beomgyu murmured in a small voice.

Beomgyu sighed, dragging Yeonjun out to their bed and helping him with his footwear.

“Beom-ah?”, Yeonjun called, Beomgyu looked up at him with his pretty eyes.

“Do you know how worried everyone is? Especially the castle omegas, they say I might not even—”, before Yeonjun could finish what he had to say, Beomgyu quickly got up to cover his mouth.

Yeonjun held his hand and pulled it away, “You do not seem worried though, you appear so calm?”

“I am. I am worried”, Beomgyu said and looked away, Yeonjun pulled him into his lap, “That’s a relief”, he said, his nose nudging Beomgyu’s scent gland.

“Not for you though”, he said and Yeonjun looked up, his alpha groaning at the implication of someone else. Beomgyu smiled, putting Yeonjun’s nose back into his neck, “for the enemies, I’m sure they won’t survive you, my love”, Yeonjun smiled, flipping Beomgyu over and pushing him into the bed.

“Ah! Gentle, please..”, Beomgyu muttered, Yeonjun, who was hovering over him scoffed, “Gentle? You’re asking for gentle? Haven’t you always liked it rough? My hate sex fan?”

“T-things happen..”, Beomgyu looked away, but soon, his lips were caught into a gentle kiss and Beomgyu gave in, his arms found their way around Yeonjun’s neck, and his body commanded him to be as close to Yeonjun’s as possible.

“I’ll be gentle”, Yeonjun said as he pulled away, and then went back to kissing his husband for the final time before he left — or so, he promised.

Beomgyu, out of breath, pushed Yeonjun’s weight a little and Yeonjun knew he was supposed to stop, he pulled Beomgyu into his lap again and distanced his lips from the boy’s.

Beomgyu, now red-cheeked, brought their foreheads together and smiled, “You’re so..”

“I’m so?”, whispered Yeonjun, Beomgyu shook his head, “Let me help you prepare, fulfil my consort duties”, Beomgyu got up, Yeonjun missed his warmth and followed him like a baby following their parent.

“This role doesn’t suit you”, Yeonjun said, grabbing into Beomgyu’s waist as he worked on Yeonjun’s armor.

“That’s disrespectful, I was born to do this!”, Beomgyu told, not too harshly.

“I’d rather have you lay in my lap or my bed for our entire lives, and pray to you like—”

“Enough. Go now, you’re ready and I’m sick of you”, Beomgyu said, pushing Yeonjun out of the door.

Yeonjun giggled before running back to him to kiss his forehead, “Wait for me, will you?”

Beomgyu shrugged, then handed Yeonjun his sword before holding his face and kissing his nose. “You shall win, my king”

“I’ll return soon”, yelled Yeonjun from outside, Beomgyu nodded, “I know”, and without any other memories of the surroundings, Beomgyu collapsed right in front of the door of their chambers.

Yeonjun heard of it from Kai when they were about to depart, the man came running for his life. The moment Yeonjun heard about Beomgyu collapsing, he dropped his sword and ran back to the chambers, shoving soldiers away.

By the time Yeonjun reached, Beomgyu was laying on his bed and doctors were leaving the chambers wordless. Taehyun sat beside Beomgyu, panicking still, Yeonjun dropped to his knees near their bed.

“Beomgyu..look at me..”, Yeonjun held his hands in his own.

“The doctors said he is fine, hyung. He’s just resting..”, Taehyun said. Yeonjun shook his head, “Why isn’t he waking up if he’s fine, then?”

Soobin entered the chambers and mentioned the delay, “Your majesty, if we won’t be leaving within an hour, we’ll need to change our plan, and it’ll be risky since their army could get closer to our kingdom”, earning just a sigh from Yeonjun.

“Soobin, I am not leaving until he opens his eyes. If he doesn’t, in an hour, you shall leave with the army, I will follow within no more time”, Yeonjun commanded and Soobin, still hesitant, nodded before settling down on one of the chairs.

After a few minutes of Yeonjun begging Beomgyu to wake up, Beomgyu opened his eyes, Yeonjun sat straight, holding the boy close. “You scared me..”, he murmured, kissing Beomgyu’s hands.

Beomgyu smiled, “You? Scared?”, Yeonjun nodded like a child, “I realised if I can’t be around you, you could..”

“Promise me you won't die on me too. I need to finish reciting the story to you.”

Beomgyu sat up, Taehyun, Soobin and Kai left the room when Beomgyu smiled at them and thanked them. Beomgyu then wrapped his hands around Yeonjun’s neck, “I promise you my king, it was just.. I didn’t sleep well”.

“That’s a terrible like beom, you slept on my chest last night, I’d know better if you slept well or not”, Yeonjun said, massaging Beomgyu’s neck.

“Alright, I was worried, okay?”

Yeonjun smiled, “So you lied to me earlier?”, his thumb stroked Beomgyu’s chin with adoration.

Beomgyu got up, wearing his robes and dragging Yeonjun outside. “I shall not hold you for longer, you have a war to end”, Beomgyu said, finally reaching the gates where the ministers and soldiers were waiting.

Everyone greeted Beomgyu as Yeonjun walked towards them, Beomgyu bowed as well. Yeonjun looked back at him and reached for him once more, once for the last time before he could return.

“Yeonjun”, Beomgyu said, earning a nod from his king.

“R-return soon..”, he said, his eyes glimmering, “Someone would be eagerly waiting to meet you”, Yeonjun smiled.

“You?”, and Beomgyu shook his head, everyone looked confused.

Yeonjun tried his best to figure it out, he looked around and then back at Beomgyu, when Beomgyu took his hand and placed it on his own abdomen, that’s when the realisation hit him

Yeonjun widened his eyes and the people around them froze, until Soobin yelled a big, “Consort, I believe this man won’t be able to leave at all, now!”

Beomgyu chuckled, looking up at Yeonjun, “Is this..true?”, Yeonjun whispered, earning a nod from Beomgyu, “Yes, my king”, he said and Yeonjun’s smile held no bounds.

Yeonjun picked his husband up and buried his face in his shoulders, twirling him around.

Around them, gasps rippled through the soldiers. Kai turned violently pink and looked at Soobin and Taehyun who gestured to him to not look. Soobin cleared his throat loudly and turned to the gates.

“You’re.. we’re..”, Yeonjun choked out, “I don’t want to go anymore”, he said, earning a hit from Beomgyu, “go, our kingdom needs you!”

“But-”

“And, don’t die, we have a lot to talk about”, a quiet laugh escaped Yeonjun, he was helplessly, completely overwhelmed in love.

He lowered Beomgyu back to the ground to kiss his forehead, then his lips, “Wait for me”, he said.

“I will, we will”, Beomgyu said looking at his abdomen, earning the softest sigh from Yeonjun, “Bogsung-ah, appa will be back soon and spend all the time with you and the love of appa's life”, Yeonjun said, Beomgyu made a weird face at him and then pushed him away.

Yeonjun, now laughing, headed out of the gates, leading the army, his eyes blazed with a fire no enemy could ever withstand.

And behind the gates, Beomgyu stood there with a protective hand on his stomach, starting his prayers already.
