Accidentally Adopting a Hero

Notes:

Day Twenty-Seven: Forehead Touch

Work Text:

Kohga follows closely behind Umi (a new recruit from Hateno who’s been studying medicine), who’s taking a few twists and turns to the newest wing in the hideout. It’s closer to the surface due to the fresh air being good for the injured or whatever Umi was going on about. Sooga seem to understand what she’s talking about so Kohga doesn't bother questioning it.

The reason for rushing to the medical wing has to do with their latest plan. A couple of his Yiga were tasked with taking over the Great Plateau but that no good king is still causing them trouble long after his death. Though, that didn’t stop Iri and Ril from discovering the Chosen Hero, who had been working with the Princess to keep their master at bay. Which explains the newest whispers about what he will do to the hero once they had made it back.

Umi suddenly stops causing Kohga to stumble backwards; Sooga easily place a hand on his shoulder to steady him. The doctor has a tight hold on the curtains that blocks their view of the room.

“The hero is still sleeping,” Umi explains carefully. “Since any information on the Shrine of Resurrection were destroyed after the First Calamity thanks to the king of Hyrule of the time, we had no idea what would have happened to the hero if removed from the shrine.”

“But you do now?” Kohga points out; crossing his arms.

Instead of answering, Umi throws the curtains open and quickly makes her way into the room. Sooga went in first, stopping for a moment, before taking up a post next to an opening that overlooks the desert. Kohga doesn’t understand why they both seem to be blocking his view of the hero. He had seen the hero a dozen of times before the Calamity was unleased, and then resealed by the Princess.

The hero lays on the cot – unmoving save for the faintest signs of his chest moving – looking small and lifeless; very unlike the stoic hero that Kohga had fought before. If Kohga didn’t know better, he would have thought they had kidnapped a random Hylian that looks like the hero…again. However, he knows there’s something not right but he can’t figure it out.

“And what do we know?” Kohga questions; turning his attention towards Umi, who jumps at the sudden attention.

“Well, some of the researchers managed to steal Purah’s notes a few months ago and only just finished translating them.” Umi grabs a file from the nightstand and hands it over to Sooga, who takes his time in looking it over. “From what they learned, the Slumber of Restoration could be used for long-time healing but with the high likely hood of that person losing their memories.”

Kohga snaps back towards the hero; “you’re saying that it’s possible that the hero wouldn’t remember anything from a hundred years ago?”

Umi looks towards Sooga, who only shakes his head, before turning back to Kohga. “Yes, that what Purah’s research concluded to but until he wakes up, we won’t know.” Her hands keep moving despite how she’s trying to force them to her side; her eyes never meeting either Sooga or Kohga’s. “However, there’s one more problem.”

“And that is?” Kohga asks.

“Due to removing the hero before the end of the cycle had caused some…side effects.” Umi looks down at the hero. “It appears that the Shrine was rebuilding the body due to injuries, so with removing the hero at this point caused him to stop at a young age.” She looks back up at Kohga with a much serious expression. “Couple that with the memories lost, it appears that the hero is nothing more than a child. What you want to do with that is up to you but, if it’s possible, allow me to take charge for his primary care.”

Kohga turns his attention to the hero, who does appear more child like than before.

“Do able,” he stated. “Keep me in the loop.”

Sooga hands the file back to Umi before following Kohga out of the room.

“What’s the plan?” Sooga ask once far enough away from wing. “I mean, the hero being a child…”

“We’ll figure it later.” Kohga knows that Sooga will not drop the matter. “In the meantime, get a hold of the pirates and see if we can trade for their services.”

Sooga gives a sharp nod before separating down a different hallway while Kohga makes his way back to his office.

Kohga keeps his arms cross while Aveil takes her time in looking over his office, Vivo (Zora) and Koume (Gerudo) have taken up standing with Sooga by the door. He taps his hand against the desk until Aveil, finally, turns her attention towards him and takes a seat across from him.

“So, you are looking for a seamstress?” Aveil casually questions. “Why? You looking for more uniforms or disguises? Because those always go to plan.”

Kohga grumbles which cause Aveil to lean forwards; “what did you say?”

He sighs dramatically: “it’s for a child.”

“You? Have a child?” Aveil looks Kohga up and down with disbelief. “And here I thought the town is losing their minds when they announced their newest chief.”

Isn't that the truth. Gerudo Town, who have been making taxing season hard on everyone in the desert, had new rumours of a toddler being their newest chief. Kohga haven’t gotten any new information from his informant but those rumors are only a few days old anyways, and from travellers passing through the town so who knows.

“Anyways, does it matter?” Kohga puts a hand up. “Don’t answer that. Are you able to or not?”

“Vivo? Is Ralis able to make any children clothes?” Aveil calls out to Vivo, who jumps and quickly comes to stand by his captain to whisper something to her which cause her to nod before rushing away. “Ralis is busy at the moment but we’ll have something in a few days however I want to be involved in the upbringing of the hero.”

“Wha!? The hero?” Kohga huffs when Aveil gives him a smirk. “Fine, but you can’t go gossiping with the rest of the desert. If we want even a chance at changing things around here, we need the kid on our side.”

It’s a very basic plan but one that Kohga had spent two hours going over. The hero is still asleep but Umi have already started preparing for when he wakes up. Umi did warn that this might fail and the hero would turn on them due to the memories that could come back, even though she doesn’t seem confident in that. Getting Aveil and her crew getting involved might better the odds of keeping the hero on their side.

“Then we’ll be back in a few days with supplies,” Aveil said before standing up. “Co-parent.”

Kohga grumbles while Aveil and her crew left the room.

“That went better than I thought it would.” Sooga had set a book on the desk and flips it open to a few designs for new disguises along with a few choices for the hero as well. “With proper access to a tailor, we’ll have new coats for the changing weather.”

Naboris – that cursed Divine Beast – isn’t just causing lightening storm that covers the whole desert (never once letting up) but have also been causing the weather to be strange. Mainly that it snows now even during the hottest temperature. Kohga had never seen anything like this before but he doubts the rest of Hyrule haven’t been left untouched.

“I’ll be in the medical wing if anyone needs me.”

Kohga grabs a book and march straight out of the room.

“Whoa, slow down there!” Teba laughs when the hero and a few other children run pass him before turning his attention to Kohga. “It seems to be a full house, Kohga. New recruit?”

“Something like that,” Kohga said.

It’s been a few months since the hero had awakened which cause him to completely forget about the annual meeting between the Yiga, Ritos, and the pirates of the dunes. A meeting that’s been happening long before any of their time and all leads straight back to their original master. Kohga doesn’t really question it anymore since the Ritos had proven themselves to be a worthy ally over the years.

Teba easily scoops the hero into his wings, causing the kid to giggle. He brushes back the kid’s bangs, frowning at the sight of a bruise on his forehead before giving Kohga a pointed look. It’s the same one that Aveil had given him just an hour before; after the kid ran into a table. Luckily, the Rito left it for now and allows the kid to take off running again.

“Now that our friend had met our little hero, how about we get this meeting started?” Aveil said while walking into the room with Vivo and Koume following close behind, before breaking away to stand with Heath and Sooga.

“Let’s!” Kohga clap his hands together. “There’s much to be discussed.”
