Chapter Text
The House of Tempus had always been a formidable institution in people's minds. Usually the imposing marble white building is enough, but the inside only reinforced the exterior. The front foyer is full of light, candle and sun, and larger than most city halls. In the backdrop of the rough Ground life, it stuck out as something remarkably sphere-like, and many were afraid of it. As a matter of fact, you didn't make it past the front desk unless you were someone important.
You couldn't exactly blame them for it either. Working inside was a very exclusive affair. The most applicants they would take per year was fifty, and even then most wouldn't make it. The most graduates to work in the House anyone had heard of was twenty-five. They all wore staunch uniforms with their heads held high, and once they walked in after their public graduation ceremony...well, you never really saw them again. They disappeared into the interior, swallowed whole by whatever was inside. Pickled eyes? Books on cannibalism? Corpses?
As a member of the House, you rolled your eyes at those rumors.
The House of Tempus was MUCH stranger than that.
