Work Text:
Regulus had always been the younger brother of Sirius. While Sirius was the life of the party, breaking girls' and boys' hearts and always being the center of attention, Regulus was the quiet type, buried in books. But there was someone who turned Regulus' world upside down: James, Sirius' best friend.
James was tall, dark-haired, and had a smile that made Regulus' heart skip a beat. Regulus had been in love with James for years, but he had never had the courage to say anything. James was just a friend to him, a part of Sirius' life, not his.
One day, Sirius came home and announced that he had found a boyfriend and would be getting married soon. Regulus was surprised, but also a little sad. He would miss Sirius, and he knew that James wouldn't be around as much.
As Sirius and his boyfriend left, Regulus and James were left alone in the house. They sat on the couch, drinking beer and talking about old times. Regulus couldn't help but look at James. He saw how James laughed, how his eyes sparkled, and he knew he couldn't ignore his feelings any longer.
"James, can I ask you something?" Regulus said, his voice shaking a little.
"Yeah, sure, what's up?" James replied, looking at him curiously.
Regulus gathered all his courage. "I've fallen in love with you," he said, his cheeks turning red.
James looked at him in surprise, then smiled. "I've fallen in love with you too," he said, and took Regulus in his arms.
From that moment on, Regulus and James were a couple. They had to tell Sirius, but he wasn't surprised. "I always knew it," he said, grinning.
Regulus and James lived happily together, and Regulus knew he had finally found what he had been searching for.
