Wait... we're dating?

Summary:

An Shiraishi is not in love with her singing partner. They're just friends right? Unfortunately for An, everyone else seems to think she’s already dating Kohane.

Chapter 1: “Just Best Friends" (According to An)

Chapter Text

There had been something haunting the amber-eyed girl’s mind for the past few nights.

An Shiraishi didn’t want to admit that her friends—hell, even her dad and his café regulars—were right about it.

Because how could she possibly have a crush on her partner? Much less be dating her?

Kohane was just her singing partner. Her best friend. The person she relied on the most. Her other half.

…Which was all completely normal, obviously.

So why had everyone looked so confused when An mentioned Kohane’s “strange behavior” lately?

She’d only said it casually—how Kohane had been more affectionate recently. The hand-holding. The lingering glances. The way she was so flustered easily now, whenever it was just the two of them. (Which, admittedly, was kind of adorable.)

Which all started happening after she said that the moon is pretty?

What finally made An ask about it was the night Kohane kissed her goodnight.

On the lips.

Then immediately shut the door in her face.

An buried her face into a pillow, groaning as the memory replayed in perfect, mortifying clarity.

At the café the next day, when she relayed all her thoughts about it, Akito had looked like he wanted to strangle her. Toya had stared at her like she lives under a rock. Even her father had paused mid-dishwashing.

The silence stretched until Toya finally broke it.

“Shiraishi… aren’t you already dating Azusawa?”

An nearly dropped her notepad. “No! She’s just my best friend.”

Akito scoffed, shoving his pancakes around his plate. “You realize what you said was basically a confession, right?”

“A confession?” An blinked. “All I said was that the moon was beautiful.”

Akito froze. Slowly, he pushed his plate away and rubbed his temples, an unmistakable warning sign.

Luckily, Toya stepped in, placing a calming hand on his partner’s shoulder before turning back to An.

“Shiraishi,” he said gently, “the phrase ‘the moon is beautiful tonight, isn’t it?’ is an indirect love confession.”

Akito resumed eating, shooting her an unimpressed glare.

“And now you’re telling us she’s just a friend?”

When An later told Mizuki about the whole thing, they laughed so hard they nearly fell over.

“Haven’t you two gone on dates?”

That question haunted her.

Because everyone kept saying the same thing.

Aren’t you two dating?

Hell, even her dad says to his regulars that all An talks about is her partner Kohane. Akito said this too and, so did Mizuki.

Somehow, An had not only failed to realize she was dating her best friend—but had also completely missed that she's in love with her in the first place.

But, here's the bigger problem. How in the world is she going to tell her 'girlfriend' that she didn't know they were together?
