The New Wars
Hope rises
The Galaxy is in danger! Ancient evil and powerful forces have returned to the galaxy and normal civilizations cannot fight them. While they struggle to find a way to effectively combat these invaders, someone else has noticed this development.
Member of the crew of the Federation starship Voyager, Jedi knight trained by Ahsoka Tano, once companion of Tandis the Arnor, Kes has arrived to this galaxy to confront this threat. While her unique abilities allow her to travel through enemy space, the might of the enemy is considerable and no one, not even Kes herself, knows if she can make a difference here…
Chapter 1
Alone
Kes materialized on the surface of a planet in the space claimed by the enemy. She breathed deeply and looked around. She was high in the mountains, one of many on this planet. Everything looked normal for a terrestrial planet, but Kes could feel that something was wrong - the planet felt dark, and not normally dark, but as if a shroud of darkness was covering it. This darkness made it impossible for Kes to sense any life around her.
Kes looked down the slope. In the valleys below was a typical forest, one of countless that existed in this universe, and countless other universes. Further, she could see a settlement, part of the Bohandi colony that was once on the planet. Kes did not know what happened to its inhabitants and she came here to find out.
Kes turned around and walked away from the slope. There was a small path there, a path made by the Bohandi who once lived here. It went down, between the mountain rocks and, eventually, into the forest.
Kes entered this path and began going down the mountain. As she was going down, she noticed that the environment around her was strangely still and silent. No animal more advanced than an insect was moving nearby.
When Kes walked into the forest, initially, she also heard only silence. However, suddenly, she heard a bird call. A moment later, this bird flew toward her at high speed, clearly intending to attack her. Kes evaded it on its first pass and then, when it was coming back at her, extended her right hand toward him. The bird froze in the air and was then lowered to the ground. Kes put down her hand, but her mind was still keeping the bird in place.
-What’s going on with you? - Kes said and attempted to enter the bird’s primitive mind. But she only felt darkness there, the same darkness that was shrouding the planet.
Kes heard something incoming, some mammalian predator from this planet, something like a wolf. She quickly exited the bird’s mind, turned around, drew her lightsaber and activated it. She did it just in time as the “wolf” jumped at her. She slashed it with her lightsaber, and its two body parts fell to the ground, dead. However, this action distracted Kes enough so she could no longer control the bird. It took off and flew away. Kes knew that pursuing it would be futile.
-This darkness… it’s controlling the animals of this world - she said to herself. - It had grown in power… since we last met it. Well, it was thousands of years… for them.
Kes resumed walking through the forest, repelling some more attacks from local fauna. None really came close to harming her, but they did slow her down, which annoyed her.
