“Would you still love me if I never got better?”
Ray had timed the question almost too perfectly, just as Sand pulled up outside his house and was able to very quickly whip his entire body to face Ray. Of course, he said yes, and of course he fully believed that his boyfriend would get better. There was no doubt about it, no hesitation in his words until Ray followed with his next question -
“Would you still love me if I was a worm?”
Sand's shock and confusion at the question lead to disaster, their first and apparently somehow biggest problem since Ray started his recovery. The hesitation, in Ray's mind, was a no. Sand would hate him if he was a worm, kill him if he was a worm, and that is not at all acceptable. Whatever happened to "for better, for worm?"
