It was a bright sunny day, the grass was soft, the sky was blue. The little boy looked up, staring at the sun, before quickly blinking away. He felt a soft nudge and looked over. “Kid- don't do that! You'll uh, hurt your eyes!” Micha giggled, nodding in response. “Okay! I just like looking at the pretty sky!” The entity smiled, standing up and giving his hand for Micha to grab. “Of course, why don't we head inside the house yeah? Play some games?” Micha grinned and quickly grabbing Regects hand, jumping onto his feet. “Okay! What should we play?” Regect hummed, starting to walk towards the house, Micah's little hands wrapped against his clawed ones. “How about..hide and seek?” Micha giggled as they walked inside. “Okay!! You're it!” Micha called out as he ran away, Regect didn't even try to protest, just sighing with a smile.
This kid was so sweet, so joyful. Regect was happy he got better. Happy that he didn't stay away too long, what would he do without this bundle of joy and headaches. Regect counted for a minute, and then quickly set off to find the kid. He walked through the large halls, peering into each room. Where exactly would the kid have gone ..hm.. Regect instantly thought about Micah's room! A purple and gray furnished room that Regect put the most thought into. Micha loved it. He quietly walked into the room, raising a brow as he searched through the room. With a huff he decided that Micha wasn't in here. So he walked out and continued. He checked the large living rooms, closets, everything. He couldn't find the kid.
He slowly started getting worried, but he pushed the worry down. The kid was good at this game. Then he was down to his last guess, his own room. It was pretty plain, its main decorations were gifts the kid had given him, he held them near like trophies. He slowly walked in, checking his closet, corners, and then finally he peered under his bed, the kid jumped at him with a loud roar, making the entity jump back with an (admittedly) girly scream.
“Haha!! You found me!” Regect took a deep breath, trying to calm down from the jumpscare. “Jesus kid! Gonna give me a heart attack!” They laughed together, before Micha stood up quickly and yanked Regects hand, tugging him all the way to one of the little gardens they made together. They sat down, on the soft grass. Surrounded by Michas favorite flowers, the alliums. Micha sighed softly as he flipped onto his back, Regect doing the same.
“I'm glad you got better kid, you know that?” Micha laughed and nodded. “Yeah I know! You're always telling me! Sorry for leaving you alone for so long-” Regect shook his head quickly. “No no- it's not your fault, don't ever think it was!” Micha just nodded. The laid in the peaceful silence, before suddenly regect felt a small drop of rain on his forehead. Then another, and another. He slowly turned his head over to Micha, the kid was gone.
In all reality, the kid has been gone. For two years now. Regect was curled up on the ground, laying his head limply onto the soaking grass as he's poured on. It was dark, cold and wet. And so lonely. So, so lonely. The truth was the kid never came back. Regect wasn't sure why. How would he ever know? The kid said he was moving hospitals, and he'd be gone for a little. But two years? No. Something bad had to have happened, and Regect couldn't do anything to fix it. So he laid pathetically, hoping maybe one day somehow, Micha will come back. His sun, his son. The first light in his life, his first friend.
But he isn't back, so Regect convinces himself that he's still here, or else he'd lose his mind. He closed his eyes, imagining the games they'd play, the places he'd build, the songs they'd listen to, everything. But it'll never be as good as the real thing. His world, will it always be lacking the sun? It's been so dark and rainy forever. When Micha left, so did the sun.
His sunshine. Regect prayed he was still alive. How could he even go on if something happened to this kid. Maybe the same way he has. Lying to himself. Just keep lying. He looked up slowly as rain continued to come down on him. Cold, painful, a terrible reminder.
“I hate the rain.”
