Work Text:
Kuanjui had taken quite the liking to retail therapy.
What was there not to like? Buying new clothes in every color, purchasing makeup she’d only use once, browsing stores for gadgets and gizmos she definitely didn’t need. It made her feel less stressed and anxious all the time, in a way, like the sound of her card being accepted could take a weight off her shoulders.
And then she’d actually have to look at herself while trying her new clothes, and even in the comfort of her apartment, it brought the weight right back.
Looking at herself in the mirror highlighted every single one of her problems, every bit of asymmetry. The imperfections Rui somehow didn’t think existed.
“You’re literally so hot,” she had told her, sitting wearily on the bed behind her, “I don’t know why you keep looking at yourself like that. It’s weird.”
“Are you even looking at me right now-?” Kuanjui flattened the shirt she had just put on. The silvery blue made her look sickly, the textured fabric made her face look swollen, the small neckline gave her hair an unmanageable appearance.
“I am. And I see that you look fine, so stop complaining in your head. I can hear your thoughts like they’re yelling at me.”
“You don’t even know what I’m thinking,” she pouted.
“But, the thing is, I do. Something along the lines of, ‘why do I even look like this?’, or ‘how do people look at me without retching?’. Again, it’s weird.”
“... You’re the worst.”
Rui chuckled, pushing her legs off the bed. “And you still let me stay here, so what now?”
“You’re still the worst.”
“I’m just telling you the truth. You’re gorgeous, Kuanjui. I literally stare at you all the time.”
“You stare at yourself all the time,” Kuanjui acknowledged, turning away from the mirror as Rui left the bed and began walking toward her.
“I can stare at two things at once.”
“It’s not even possible to do that. One of us wouldn’t be in focus.”
“You don’t know what I can do,” said Rui, as she made her way towards the girl she’d named. “And even if I couldn’t, you’d always be in focus anyway.”
Kuanjui’s face warmed up. She looked straight at Rui, a sighing expression coating her face. “You’re ridiculous.”
“Does that matter?”
“Yes. It matters a lot, actually, and I’ll stop liking you as much as I do if you stay ridiculous.”
“We both know that’s a lie.” Rui muttered, loud enough that Kuanjui knew she intended for her to hear it. She walked right up to Kuanjui, grabbing onto her waist and pulling her in for a luxurious kiss.
Kuanjui sighed onto Rui’s lips, though her mouth quickly formed a giggle. Rui gripped her waist tighter, pulling her closer, closing the miniscule gap between them. Suppose she wanted her even more, as she kissed even deeper. Her nearly devious smile grew when she felt a pair of hands against her back. She brought her own hands to Kuanjui’s nape, their faces so close, they may as well have been squished by pressure. She kissed Kuanjui so meaningfully, yet so casually. Perhaps she could make it.. less casual. Hmm.
As Rui felt she’d gotten enough into a trance from the kissing alone, she ever so slightly opened her mouth, biting down on her lip. Hard.
Kuanjui’s lips might’ve started to bleed, though Rui still bit her.
The pain sunk into Kuanjui’s mouth slowly, she pushed away from the other the second she noticed. “What the fuck—?”
“Something wrong?” Rui asked, her smile evident.
Kuanjui’s hand moved to her lower lip as her mouth hung open, eyes wide with some hint of surprise. “Did you just bite me?”
“Are there any real problems?”
“Yeah, you bit me.” Kuanjui scoffed, wiping the bottom of her lip, so as to signal she’d been wiping the kiss away like it hadn’t happened.
“Don’t wipe me away, what the fuck-“ Rui gasped dramatically, leaning to kiss the corner of Kuanjui’s lip. Exactly where her teeth had just sunken into.
Kuanjui pushed her away again, looking back into the mirror, her face as close to the object as possible. She examined her face, specifically the red dot that laid on her bottom lip. Her face went just as red. “You’re so weird. Vampire.”
“It isn’t weird if you liked it,” Rui teased, standing right behind her. “And you want so many more.”
“I never said that.”
“Okay, but you’re thinking it. Your thoughts are still loud as fuck.”
Kuanjui crossed her arms and looked away from the mirror, looking away from Rui, to be exact. “I hate you.”
The instant Kuanjui saw it, she absolutely hated it. She was actually repulsed by it.
‘It’, being the way Haru ate from their ice cream cone.
She assumed inviting her closest friends on an ice cream date would be a cute get-together, not where she’d find out something she definitely didn’t need to know about. She had to point it out the second it happened, nearly dropping her own cone on Rui’s shoes in utter shock. Maybe the latter shouldn’t have been standing so close to her.
“You bite your ice cream?” she nearly yelled, eyes wide open and head leaned forward. Just to draw more attention to her friend’s antics, she muttered, “Weirdo.”
“Well, what do you do?” Haru replied, looking away from the empty chunk in the scoop of ice cream before them. “Lick it slowly like a stupid cat until it melts all over your hand?”
“Well— Well I eat it like a normal person. I’m not freezing my teeth to enjoy ice cream.”
“You don’t freeze your teeth, you just- you just eat it, what’s getting you mad?”
“Because nobody bites their ice cream if they aren’t a psychopath!”
“Let people have their preferences, love,” Rui interjected, wrapping her free arm around Kuanjui’s shoulders. “They can do whatever they want.”
“Biting’s gross,” Kuanjui pouted in response.
Haru rolled their eyes, another bite of their ice cream in their mouth. “You’re gross if you don’t eat your food in the most efficient way possible.”
“I think she just means biting in general is gross,” mentioned Rui, who now appeared to have a tighter grip on Kuanjui. “She’s just.. weird like that sometimes, you know what I mean?”
Haru giggled and covered their mouth, now not needing anybody else watching them eat. “I see what you mean. The ‘weird’ thing.”
Kuanjui sighed and looked away from the two of them, shaking to loosen Rui’s grip around her. Rui instantly responded to the action by giggling, a somewhat sinister look appearing in her eyes. “Maybe she just has to get used to it more, hm?” she asked.
Haru’s eyebrows furrowed. “What do you mean by that—“
“Mmm, you know. Simple.” Rui giggled and licked her lips, turning the sulking Kuanjui back to face her. She leaned over before the other girl could even think to push her away, sinking her teeth right into her neck. She bit down even harder than she had before— something to do with more surface area, or whatever. Haru, on the other hand, watched the pair completely taken aback.
Kuanjui’s mouth hung even wider, more in shock than she’d been at Haru’s earlier stunt. She slapped a hand over her mouth, so as to not let the others see her appalled face. Instead of pushing herself away, hip knocked into Rui’s, the latter nearly tripping backwards.
“So you’re just gonna bite me in public now too-?”
“What do you mean ‘too’?” Haru asked, nearly gagging, “Is this something that’s happened before?”
“She bit my lip, so I won’t let her kiss me.” The congealed burgundy mark on Kuanjui’s bottom lip now looked more apparent to Haru, as well as the new mark: a bright red oval on her neck, with dents that dug deep into her skin. Kuanjui herself noticed it too, her hand going up to the bite mark as she sighed.
Rui chuckled, putting her hand right over Kuanjui’s. “You like it~~?”
“No, I hate it, and stop biting me.” Kuanjui gently pushed her hand away, stretching her reddened neck to relieve the sudden pain she’d felt. “I’m either gonna have bite marks all over me, or you’ll eat me alive.”
“I think she’s just chosen you as her chew toy, Kuanjui,” Haru giggled, taking another bite of their ice cream immediately after.
Kuanjui’s pout reappeared on her face as she rolled her eyes, facing the giggling girl in front of her, her stupidly sharp teeth and everything. She realized Haru’s remark had absolutely been true.
The smell of cooking food had flooded the entire apartment, only making Rui’s hunger strengthen by the second. And boredom, probably due to not having Kuanjui constantly stare— glare, lately— at her from across the room. The shorter haired girl had been too focused preparing their meal, which bored Rui out of her mind. Not even her own face could fix the boredom; as she posed in front of her phone to take selfies, the poses quickly became more and more sluggish.
She groaned as the sounds of the stove felt like they’d gotten louder, though perhaps she’d just been paying more attention to them.
Rui pushed her body from the chair while listening to the faint noises of Kuanjui humming in the kitchen. She grinned. Kuanjui had always hummed whenever she got so focused on a task, she didn’t think she had ever realized it. Thus, it was reduced to being one of Kuanjui’s many adorable quirks that she adored in silence.
Kuanjui immediately heard Rui’s footsteps behind her and sighed through a chuckle, continuing to not look away from the operating stove in front of her. “I’m almost done.”
“Smells good,” Rui said, “if it tastes even better, I’ll do all the cooking and cleaning tomorrow.”
“Is that what it gets for you to not be lazy?”
“I literally cleaned the entire apartment the last time you were out shopping. I’m more responsible than you make it out to be.”
“.. I guess you can be helpful.”
“Exactly,” Rui smiled as she wrapped her hands around Kuanjui’s waist, backhugging her as she continued to watch the stove.
“You’re helpful until you distract me while I’m doing something nice for you,” she sulked, though still leaning into Rui’s warm embrace.
“Hey, ‘m not distracting,” Rui mumbled, her face making contact with Kuanjui’s bare shoulder. “Just cook.”
“You’re very distracting, actually.”
“That’s because you think I’m hot.”
“I think you should shut up.”
“Mmm, fine.” Rui sighed as her face pressed onto Kuanjui’s skin, her mouth moving into a smug smile once an idea hit her mind.
Minutes passed where Rui stayed completely still, watching the other girl move the ingredients around in the pan. It felt almost alluring, paying attention to her every movement. Despite constantly being distracted, or… overly amorous, Rui loved her short domestic moments with Kuanjui, and all the time she had to take in her appearance. She decided she’d been calm and stagnant for long enough, however.
She slowly lifted her head from her shoulder, though not too far from it, as she began to bite at Kuanjui’s bare skin. Some bites so soft she’d barely recognize it, some hard enough to leave red dents on her collar bone.
Rui swore Kuanjui would’ve argued or pushed her away, though she spent a while doing absolutely nothing to retaliate. So, she kept biting, as if the feeling of her teeth Kuanjui’s glassy skin comforted her.
Kuanjui lightly shook her head, “I am your chew toy, aren’t I.”
“Just let me bite you, shut up,” Rui replied, her teeth going further into Kuanjui’s upper back.
“You’re literally a fucking vampire.”
“I sleep at a perfectly normal time, thankyouverymuch.”
“That isn’t what I meant, and you know it.”
Rui giggled, Kuanjui’s body still in her hands as the amount of bite marks on her skin only grew. Kuanjui hadn’t bled at all, though some of the dents had been deep enough that they seemed a perfect shade of red. “Prettyyyyy…” Rui mumbled.
“You know how bad this hurts, right?” asked Kuanjui, who’d silenced her pained groans long enough.
“It won’t hurt if I bite you more.”
“That isn’t at all how that works.”
Though Rui kept biting, and Kuanjui kept letting her. Rui didn’t need to know how accustomed she’d gotten to sinking into the feeling, Kuanjui knew that meant she’d likely try to bite even harder.
Rui hadn’t looked at Kuanjui in the past ten minutes. Was that a problem? Probably not, Kuanjui became a blushing mess every time the former did so much as glance at her. She was never too fond of being stared at, especially now that she knew Rui’s only intentions were to swallow her entirely, though she had the sudden urge for the girl’s attention.
Kuanjui pouted and shuffled in her chair, the loveseat right next to the sofa where Rui sat. She stared with eyes that wanted to be stared at back, though Rui scrolled on her phone intently, liking posts that had definitely been more interesting than herself.
Still, she moped, watching Rui’s hand continuously scroll. As she stared, she noticed everything about Rui’s current position. Her neck was bent, she’d sat on her feet, one of the fingers holding her phone had stuck out.
Something about that in particular had gotten her to lightly giggle, especially when she herself brought her hand up to massage all the dark red bite marks covering her torso.
Kuanjui knew what would get Rui’s focus on her.
She pushed herself up from the chair, though remained mostly sitting. She used her upper body to crawl closer to where Rui sat. The latter still hadn’t noticed a thing, which made her smirk widen. Once she decided she was close enough to her, she leaned her face over to the hand holding Rui’s phone, beginning to open her mouth.
She then clamped Rui’s finger right between her teeth, giggling even more the second Rui had seen her face.
“Oh my God,” Rui whined, earning another sweet laugh from Kuanjui. “And you keep complaining that I—”
“That you made me your chew toy? Yeah,” she replied, Rui’s finger still stuck in between her soft lips. She didn’t bite Rui’s finger until it had turned red, like the other had repeatedly done; instead, she nibbled lightly, with no goal of making the marks hurt. Or last.
Rui sighed and didn’t move an inch, her eyes all over Kuanjui’s mischievous face. “Y’know, you bite like a ferret. You’re adorable.”
Kuanjui beamed at the compliment, pulling her mouth away from Rui’s finger. “I’m notttt. I’m completely normal, at least compared to you.”
“What about me makes me ‘not normal’, hm?”
“Oh, I don’t know, maybe the fact that you keep biting me?”
“You just bit me, right now. Not even a minute ago.”
Kuanjui moved herself back to her own seat, covering her face with her hands as she pursed her lips. “Shut up.”
Rui chuckled, “Am I lying to you?”
“No, and that’s the part I don’t like.”
“Well, I’m your chew toy now,” continued Rui, who had sprawled herself over the sofa to get as close to Kuanjui as possible. “And you’re not doing anything to disprove that.”
“If you don’t shut up, I’m gonna bite you again.”
“Do you genuinely think I wouldn’t like it?”
“... You’re the worst.”
Kuanjui stood from her own chair and plopped herself down directly beside Rui, who had a smirk so wide, she swore she’d beat— bite— the living shit out of her. Though, maybe she should stop finding biting absolutely disgusting first.
