Chapter Text
Virgil stretched, trying to seem casual as he glanced at his watch. It's going to be close, he realized. Lighting at 6, half hour of waiting on tenterhooks, and then— no, wait, if he lights at shul then he won't have to worry about that. But he would have to run home and get his menorah anyways, it's set up in the windowsill already...
Something must have shown up on his face; Logan was studying him. Virgil leaned back into the couch cushion, watching Roman and Remus progress from Jingle Bell Rock to Stop Trying To Replace Every Instance Of 'Rock' With 'Cock' Or I Will Quickly Become An Only Child. It was entertaining, at the very least.
He tried very hard to ignore Logan's eyes, boring holes into the side of his head.
Logan leaned closer, conspiratorial. "You should leave soon, if you plan on making it home before tzeis."
It wasn't that Virgil didn't trust his friends. He did, he loved them. They were good people. But at a certain point hiding became habit, and then telling the truth became awkward, and it was just easier to go with the flow.
"How the hell did you figure that out," he asked flatly, a bolt of panic locking him to his seat.
Logan shrugged, turning his eyes to the twins. (They were exchanging blows now, perilously close to the christmas tree and all of its delicate baubles.) "It's not hard," he said. "You're never free on Friday nights or Saturdays — that's what clued me in. And once I knew, I could see the signs."
"I'm sure you could," Virgil agreed ruefully. He should have expected that from Logan.
"You don't have to hide, you know."
Virgil half-turned; Logan was pointedly not looking.
"...I'll tell them later. Another time."
Logan nodded. "Go light."
And Virgil slipped out. He'd light at home, he decided, then drive to shul with Janus.
Ah shit, I probably have to tell Janus that Logan figured us out.
