Already Chosen

Summary:

Taehyung doesn’t need proof that his husband is loyal.
He already knows Jungkook is.

Some marriages pass with flying colors.

Notes:

Jungkook is unwaveringly devoted and absolutely un-flirtable.
Taehyung regrets everything but also feels extremely loved.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Taehyung hadn’t planned to catfish his husband.

It started, as most of Taehyung’s terrible ideas did, with boredom, his friends sprawled across the living room floor, and Jungkook locked away in his home office on a late night call.

Jungkook had been married to him for three years.

Three.

Years.

And yet.....

“Okay but listen,” Jimin said, lying on his stomach and scrolling through Instagram. “You know Jungkook doesn’t flirt. Like, at all.”

Taehyung hummed, chin propped on his palm. “He flirts with me.”

Jimin snorted. “That’s not flirting. That’s domestic devotion.”

Taehyung frowned. “He used to flirt.”

“Used to,” Hoseok echoed dramatically. “Now he sends heart emojis and reminds you to drink water.”

Taehyung glanced toward the office door. Jungkook’s muffled voice drifted out, low and calm, probably destroying someone in a meeting with nothing but professionalism and polite menace.

Taehyung loved that man.

But still.

“What if,” Jimin said slowly, eyes lighting up, “you text him from a fake account?”

Taehyung blinked. “Why would I-”

“To see if he’s loyal,” Hoseok finished, grinning. “For science.”

Taehyung scoffed. “He’s my husband. Of course he’s loyal.”

“Then you have nothing to worry about,” Jimin said innocently. “Unless you’re scared.”

Taehyung straightened. “I’m not scared.”

“Then do it.”

Taehyung hesitated.

And then...

“Fine.”

They made the fake account in ten minutes.

Taehyung stared at it.

“This feels illegal,” he muttered.

Jimin shoved the phone into his hands. “Text him.”

Taehyung swallowed.

Jungkook was currently online.

@minseo._97:
hey :)

Across the apartment, Jungkook’s phone buzzed.

He frowned slightly, glancing down mid email.

Unknown DM.

He ignored it.

Taehyung watched, jaw dropping. “He ignored me.”

Jimin laughed. “Text again.”

@minseo._97:
sorry if this is weird, i saw you in suggested and thought you looked cute

Jungkook paused.

Cute?

He sighed, rubbing his face.

Jungkook:
Thank you, but I’m married.

Taehyung’s chest warmed immediately.

He grinned smugly. “See?”

“Wait,” Hoseok said. “Push more.”

Taehyung narrowed his eyes. “You want me to harass my husband?”

“Yes.”

Taehyung cracked his knuckles.

@minseo._97:
oh! sorry
just thought i’d try
your husband’s lucky

Jungkook stared at the message longer this time.

Something about it felt… off.

Too polite.

Too soft.

Jungkook:
He is.
Please don’t message me again.

Taehyung huffed. “That’s it?”

Jimin shook his head. “No no. Make it obvious flirting.”

Taehyung hesitated.

Then typed.

@minseo._97:
must be nice, having someone who trusts you so much
doesn’t even worry about strangers texting you

Jungkook’s jaw tightened.

Trust.

That word.

He exhaled slowly.

Jungkook:
My husband doesn’t need to worry.
I’ve never given him a reason to.

Taehyung froze.

The smugness melted into something warm and soft and painfully affectionate.

But then....

Hoseok whispered, “Say something that sounds like you.”

Taehyung swallowed.

And typed without thinking.

@minseo._97:
what if someone did want you though?
what if they tried harder?

Jungkook stopped typing altogether.

His eyes flicked toward the closed office door.

Taehyung felt a sudden prickle of nerves.

Jungkook:
Then they’d be wasting their time.
I belong to someone already.

Taehyung’s breath caught.

He stared at the screen.

His friends were quiet now.

@minseo._97:
you don’t even sound curious

Jungkook leaned back in his chair.

Curious.

No.

He was tired.

He smiled faintly.

Jungkook:
I wake up next to the love of my life every day.
Curiosity doesn’t survive that.

Taehyung’s throat closed.

Jimin mouthed okay wow.

But Taehyung wasn’t done.

Not yet.

@minseo._97:
what if your husband wasn’t enough someday?

The reply came slower.

Calculated.

Jungkook:
Then I’d talk to him.
Not look elsewhere.

Taehyung’s hands shook.

He stared at the message for a long time.

Then..

@minseo._97:
you really love him, huh?

Jungkook didn’t reply immediately.

Instead, he stood up.

Walked to the door.

And opened it.

Taehyung yelped, throwing the phone down like it had burned him.

Jungkook leaned against the doorframe, phone in hand, eyebrow raised.

“Are you done catfishing me,” he asked calmly, “or should I keep rejecting your fake persona?”

Dead silence.

Jimin and Hoseok scrambled up. “We should go.”

They fled.

Taehyung sat frozen on the couch.

Jungkook crossed the room slowly.

“You used Jimin’s old fake account,” Jungkook added. “He forgot to remove me from followers.”

Taehyung groaned, burying his face in his hands. “I’m sorry.”

Jungkook stopped in front of him.

“Look at me.”

Taehyung peeked up.

Jungkook’s expression wasn’t angry.

It was fond.

And very amused.

“You don’t trust me?” Jungkook asked softly.

Taehyung shook his head immediately. “No. I do. I just.. just wanted to see.”

Jungkook cupped his face. “See what?”

Taehyung swallowed. “If you’d choose me.”

Jungkook leaned down, forehead touching his.

“I choose you,” he said quietly. “Every text. Every room. Every lifetime.”

Taehyung’s eyes stung.

Jungkook kissed him gently, lingering.

Then pulled back.

“For the record,” Jungkook added, smirking, “your fake account was terrible.”

Taehyung sniffed. “Rude.”

Jungkook smiled, thumbs brushing his cheeks.

“But if you ever want attention,” he murmured, “you don’t need to pretend to be anyone else.”

Taehyung wrapped his arms around him.

“Promise?”

Jungkook kissed his temple.

“Always.”
