Chapter Text
Penny was baking away in the kitchen, Carla and Monty had fixed her up yesterday and wanted to thank them. She normally baked things for them when they did this, this evening she was making them cookies. Because, who doesn't love homemade cookies? Penny was also particularly excited for tonight, her and Ted had planned a sleepover. Sure, they hang out all the time but she was just happy that Ted was coming here for once instead of going to his house. There was nothing wrong with Ted’s place, Penny loved his house. He had only been to her house a handful of times so it would be a nice change.
Penny finished mixing the dough and set it aside to get out pans for the cookies. Even though she was baking, she was wearing her pajamas. Though she was wearing an apron over top of them. Penny just wanted to be festive for her sleepover. After setting up the trays the doorbell rang.
“That must be Ted!” she thought, walking over to the door. As she opened it, there he was. Dawned in his matching red silk pajama set, a bag slinked over his shoulder.
“Hi Penny!” He greeted, “Hello Theo!” she said, wrapping him in a hug. “It’s great to see you again,” “You too!” he responded, hugging her back. “Please, do come in” Penny gesturing for him to come inside. Ted walked into the house, looking at his surroundings.
“You can put your stuff in my room,” she suggested, walking back over to the kitchen “Alright” He called as he entered Penny’s room.
Her room was extremely neat, not a speck of dust was in sight. There was also a very blue theme going on, well it was her favorite color.
He set his bag on the floor and made his way back to the kitchen.
The kitchen wasn't too big, but it was enough for Penny to make all sorts of things. A stand mixer was positioned on the counter, with the lined baking trays next to it. The oven was placed on the back wall, behind where Penny was standing.
“What are you baking?” Ted asked leaning on the counter, “I’m making cookies for Monty and Carla, every time they fix me I try to do something in return as a thank you. They are working in the garage now though,” She answered “That’s very nice of you!”
“I mean, it’s the least I could do, they practically brought me back to life!” “True, True, and that I will be ever grateful for” “Pfft! and why’s that?” She joked, “Well if they didn’t rebuild you, you wouldn’t be here, meaning I wouldn’t have you!” He said, stepping over to her, “Dawwww Theo!” Her face beginning to flush.
The oven then abruptly beeped, intruding on their moment. “Oh, the oven is pre heated, do you wanna help me roll the dough into balls?” She asked, holding up the bowl with the cookie dough in it,
“yeah okay!” He sat in silence for a second, “I’ve never made cookies before…” Ted admitted, not making eye contact “well you got to wash your hands first" "oh yeah” he rolled up his sleeves and washed his hands in the sink “let’s do this!” He was now very determined to make these cookies, Penny giggled at his sudden change of personality.
“Alright, you wanna take a chunk of dough about this size and roll it in between your hands until it becomes a ball! Then just spread them out evenly on this pan” she explained, gesturing towards the pan on the table. “Sounds easy enough!”
A few minutes later and Ted was still not getting it “is this one good?” He asked “no that’s a bit too big” Penny shook her head. He took a bit of dough off and rerolled it “how about now?” “Yeah that one looks good! Good job”
Penny had already made the first tray and was now just approving or disproving Ted’s attempts at rolling dough into balls. Yet, she was patient and supportive, it is his first time making cookies.
“Why does it matter what size they are anyway?!?” He questioned while throwing his hands in the air
“Well if they’re too big they won’t cook all the way, but if they’re too small they will burn. That’s why you have to make them just the right size!” Penny once again explained.
Ted really did not know how to bake, he kept making them too big or too small. But she couldn’t blame him, he had never done it, so she would have to be the teacher.
“That makes a lot of sense actually, you're really good at explaining things. Where did you learn to bake like this?” “I taught myself!” “Of course you did”
The cookies were now all rolled into the right size, Penny then put them in the oven, setting a timer. “Now we wait 15 minutes” she announced “so, how are Felix and Cindy?” “Oh you know” he rolled his eyes “fighting as usual, they’re going on a date tonight so I hope they resolve whatever conflict they’re going through” he paused “I mean I would have the house to myself but it gets very quiet without their consent blabbering, even if they can be loud I still care about them” he chuckled, “well anyway, how are Carla and Monty?”
“They're good! Like I said earlier, they are working on a new project in the garage, we can probably ask when we deliver the cookies, and don’t worry I made enough for us to” she smiled.
They talked for a bit more in the kitchen, and before they knew it, the oven beeped. Implying that the cookies were done. “Are they ready?” Ted questioned, “They look done, they do have to cool for a bit too”
Penny opened the oven and reached to grab the tray out of the oven.
“Wait Penny!” Ted yelled “don’t you need oven mitts?”
“Ted, I’m made of metal,”
“oh yeah whoops”
“Thanks for looking out for me though” she said while removing the cookies. Ted forgets sometimes that she’s a robot, Penny is just so full of life. “Whoa those look so good!!” “Thank you! I made the recipe myself,”
“Do Monty and Carla like your baking too?” “Yeah they love it! That's why I always try to make something after they fix me, they don’t have to do that too often, they rebuilt me quite well” She answered. “Good to know” he responded,
“Okay!” Penny clapped her hands together “lets put the cookies on plates for them, they should be cool enough”
They both arranged the cookies onto the plates nicely, making sure to leave a couple extras for themselves “That should be good” Penny announced “Lets head to the garage!”
She led Ted to the garage, holding the plate of cookies in front of her. He followed behind her, and as she opened the door he peered into the room.
“Hey guys! Ted’s here and we made cookies as a thank you for fixing me up yester-”
Penny abruptly stopped talking as she looked up to see Monty and Carla awfully close to each other. Their heads had whipped back at the door, Monty's face was redder than usual.
“Are we… interrupting something? Sorry I didn’t-"
“No!” Monty and Carla screamed at the same time. Carla pulled away, walking up to Penny and taking the plate out of her hands.
“Thank you, Penny” was all she could muster, “hi Ted” he smiled weakly at her, almost intimidated as he awkwardly waved “Could you just knock next time Pen?” Carla grumbled, making her way back over to where she was previously standing, putting the cookies on Monty’s work bench. “Of course! Sorry again I didn’t mean to intrude” she said apologetically “No no it’s okay, thanks for the cookies by the way” Monty added, still not making eye contact with anyone.
“Your welcome” Penny responded, closing the door behind her as she left. Once it was closed she started again
“I wonder what that was all about” “huh?” Ted was very confused, it was pretty obvious what they were doing, “Penny did you seriously not pick up on…” he trailed off “Pick up on what?” She cocked her head. “Never mind”

It was now late into the night, Penny and Ted had been hanging out in her room for a bit now. Ted had set up his sleeping bag on the floor, Penny insisted on sleeping on the floor too. He wondered why she wouldn’t wanna sleep in her own bed, she said it was rude. So, against Ted’s better judgment, she set up her sleeping bag too. Ted’s sleeping bag was red because of course it was. And Penny’s was her signature color too.
They had been making friendship bracelets and just talking for a while at this point. Both of them began to grow sleepy, yawning occasionally.
“Are you getting tired?” He looked over at her, “mhm” she hummed “me too, are you sure you don’t wanna sleep in your bed?” “Yeah, because if I was in my bed I wouldn’t get to be next to you” Penny responded, now resting her head on his shoulder. “Okay, okay” He laughed, wrapping his arm around her in return.
“Thanks for inviting me over by the way” he added
“of course, you can come over whenever you want, I’m always open to hang out, especially with you” She giggled. “Aww, Penny that means a lot to me” he smiled at her, pulling her closer.
“Your welcome” was the last thing she said before placing a kiss on his cheek and closing her eyes to fall asleep. Ted’s smile never left his face, he then drifted into sleep.
