a little to the left, darling

Summary:

When there was a slight lull in the fighting, Loki took the chance to call out to Fandral. “A little to the left, I think, darling.”

Fandral’s head whipped around to face Loki, his cheeks visibly reddening even in the dim light. “I can see that!” he hissed, but Loki could tell he wasn’t all that upset despite his protest. He knew Fandral well enough for that.

OR:

Loki watches Fandral and Volstagg fight the prisoners and gives (very helpful) suggestions.

This is a gift for Stardust/King_Ani! It's directly inspired by his messages in the server, one of which can be seen below:

dashingfrost au where instead of just happily reading his book in his cell, Loki blows fandral a kiss and compliments/teases him about his swordsmanship

Work Text:

The sounds of fighting filled the air, distracting Loki from the very interesting book that Fandral had brought him a few weeks ago and causing him to look up in annoyance. Outside the shimmering golden barrier of his cell, he found Fandral and Volstagg in the midst of quelling the minor riot that had broken out after Kurse’s escape.

Loki closed his book and set it aside, rising to his feet to watch the warriors fight. He couldn’t help but watch Fandral in particular, his eyes following the graceful movements of Fandral’s rapier with an appreciative gleam.

Fandral turned back to deliver a resounding blow to the prisoner creeping up on him from behind, sending the prisoner flying back into the wall between the cells. Loki applauded the attack, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Apologies, dear, I didn't think you had,” he replied, raising his voice to be heard over the din. “Seeing as you weren't dealing with it."

He watched in amusement as Fandral threw an annoyed look towards his cell, along with a roll of his eyes. “Not helpful, Loki.”

Loki began to pace the length of his cell in front of the barrier, calling out (very helpful) suggestions and compliments to Fandral as the riot continued. Once most of the prisoners had been subdued, with only a few left fighting Fandral and Volstagg, Loki decided to try his luck again. “You know, I could be much more helpful if I wasn’t in this cell,” he pointed out.

Fandral glanced over at him with an exasperated sigh. “I can’t let you out.”

“No, you won’t let me out, there’s a difference. You’re perfectly capable of it.” Loki waited until Fandral was looking at him, then tossed a wink and kiss in his direction to sweeten the plea. Even if he didn’t work, he always enjoyed getting under Fandral’s skin. And he knew that deep down, though he’d never show it to anyone but Loki, Fandral enjoyed it too.

“Goodbye, Loki,” Fandral said pointedly, but there was a hint of fondness in his voice too. He kicked the last prisoner in the chest and sent him toppling to the floor. He then followed after Volstagg, leaving the rest of the guards to herd the escaped prisoners back into their cells.

Loki watched him go. “Goodbye, darling…” he called, blowing a kiss to Fandral’s retreating back. He saw Fandral stumble over a step at the pet name, and he smirked. He’d been successful after all.
