Work Text:
Nothing was going the way Ianto had planned or hoped it would. Yes, they’d escaped Torchwood Tower and made it to Cardiff without being discovered, and eventually he’d managed to get a job with Torchwood Three. He’d even managed to get Lisa and her life support unit moved in while the team were out on Torchwood business. That had been tricky, but he’d planned the entire operation ahead of time, so the moment the opportunity had come up, he’d simply put his plan into action. It had gone off almost perfectly, with only a few minor hiccups to overcome.
But now here he was, trying to keep up with the demands of a fulltime job while also caring for the woman he loved, and researching cyberneticists whenever he could spare a moment… It was non-stop, and his new boss was an added complication, something he should perhaps have anticipated, but even though he’d been privy to all the gossip about him, how was anyone supposed to anticipate a man like Captain Jack Harkness?
Ianto had known he was falling for Lisa from their first date, when she’d teased him about being so buttoned up in a suit and tie. They’d ended the evening with her wearing his shirt over her dress while he still had his tie on, and they’d laughed all the way back to her flat. He would never forget that night. Lisa was everything to him, that was why Ianto was risking everything to find some way of helping her, some way of undoing what the metal monsters and their conversion units had done to her, of restoring her to the woman she’d been before the battle.
He loved her, wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of his life with her. There was no doubt in his mind that she was the one, or at least there shouldn’t have been any doubt. But if he loved her so much, so completely, why was he so drawn to this man with his American-sounding accent, his too handsome face, his white smile straight out of a toothpaste ad, and that intoxicating scent he claimed to be fifty-first century pheromones rather than aftershave?
Back in London, he’d chuckled over the rumours about Captain Jack Harkness, head of Torchwood Three. How he’d shag anything with a pulse, human or alien, how he was charming, and gorgeous, ruthless, and deadly. Surely people were exaggerating! Now, having met the man, Ianto had no choice but to believe everything he’d heard about him. The captain should come with a public health warning: Proceed with caution, this man is dangerously addictive! Already Ianto was at risk of falling under his spell, wanting what the captain was clearly only too eager to offer, and that would be a disaster.
Ianto had to keep his mind focused on Lisa. She was what mattered here, not Ianto’s wayward desires, which he shouldn’t even be feeling. He was here for her sake, and for no other reason; as soon as she was herself again, they’d both be out of here and they’d never look back. That was the plan. But the more time Ianto had to spend around Torchwood Three’s leader, the more his resolve faltered. The man smelled so good that when he was nearby, it was difficult for Ianto to think of anything else.
He loved Lisa, of course he did, but so help him, he wanted Jack!
The End
