Gifts

Summary:

After Esha's sudden departure, Kal's left to retrieve his kids and hand out their gifts.

Work Text:

Kal looks over the gift his sister had left for his kids. It’s a shame she left so quickly, the kids would have loved to see their aunt and for her to give them the gifts more than just he and Luca. There’s one labeled for Nella that he’ll have to take over to Lonely’s when he picks up his murder, but it’s not like that’s a hard task.

Warm arms wrap around him. “Those the gifts from your sister?” Luca mumbles lazily into his ear.

“Yeah. Was thinkin’ of picking up our little murder here shortly since things finished sooner than we thought.”

“I’ll come with you.” Luca states, pressing a soft kiss into the crook of his neck. Spite takes a few more of Kal’s moments before any of them have the chance to actually start on the trip to the Governor’s manor.

Luca takes up the easel with ease, following just a step behind Kal. Not that it would last once they got outside. Why waste a perfectly good view of his husband’s butt? Spite clearly has the same idea, given that the moment Kal’s no longer needed to open the door, both he and Spite fall back to watch.

“You two are impossible.”

“Yeah?” Kal smirks. “Might be impossible, but I’m still going to ask you to marry me.”

Luca shakes his head playfully. “Yes, mi amor. Now, if you wouldn’t mind?” Kal does the only reasonable thing and picks up his husband, revealing in the squeak he earns. “Kal!” He’s certain that they don’t damage all of David’s handiwork, no matter how death-worthy his comments once were.

Kal simply grins happily, carrying both his love and the present across the way to Aloe’s place. It’s simple enough, especially with careful applications of his magic to help support him and also the very short amount of time it takes for him to fly to the manor.

“Dad!” Ren’s the first one to greet them, grabbing on to Luca’s leg the first moment he’s on the ground. “Papa!” She stares at Luca, demanding to be picked up. Three whole years and she still likes Luca more than him. Well, at least she’s no longer scared of them like she once was.

Kal takes Nella’s present, letting Luca pick up their daughter. Spite pokes around a bit, leaving touches and words that Ren can’t even perceive but that he still hopes will get through. Spite will get his moment to speak with her properly in a minute, just like always.

“Dad! Look at the outfit Uncle Ari got me!” Kal smiles, kneeling down in front of his older son. “Isn’t it great!”

Kal knows nothing about fashion, but he knows plenty about making his kids happy. “It’s great! Did you pick it out?”

“Yeah! Uncle Ari even told me I have great taste!” Fey grins, his excitement almost contagious.

Leon patters over calmly, staring blankly in Kal’s general direction. “What’s that?”

“It’s a gift for Nella that Esha and David dropped off.” He lets Leon get an idea of what it is before telling him. A little touching isn’t going to hurt something so finely crafted. “It’s an easel for your cousin’s art.” Leon takes a moment to think. He may be getting the hand of his magic, but he’s still got a long way to go. Leon will get there sooner than later, though. Kal just knows it.’

“Aunti and Uncle were over?” Fey asks curiously?

“Yeah. You’ve got gifts waiting at home.” All three of them grow that much more excited. “Let’s make sure Nella’s gift gets to the right place, and then we can head home, okay?”

It’s easy enough to track down the right room given how often Kal’s over here. He sets it up in the middle of the room before heading back to the kids and Luca. Leon stops in front of him, staring ahead while raising his arms up. He’s tired of walking and all the stimulation that comes with it.

Kal picks him up easily. As much as Leon’s building up his tolerance to being able to sense things through the ground with magic, he’s still only three. It’s a lot to take in and he says nothing’s particularly clear yet. It’ll come with time. Kal’s certain. Their youngest may not have a very common type of magic, but he’s talented with what he has.

“Do you want the big couch, or the little one?” Kal asks, needing to know if their boy is done with his feet touching things for the day or not.

“Big.” Fair enough. Kal sets his son on the couch that’s high enough for Leon’s feet to dangle off properly. Fey and Ren decide to join him, sitting on either side of their little brother close enough for him to know they’re there, but not close enough to be a problem.

“Auntie Eshi left us presents?’ Fey asks.

Luca walks in a the trio of objects. “Fey.” Luca states, handing the boy a magazine with pictures of clothes on them. Fey grins, eager to read through it. “Leon?” Luca’s much more careful in making sure Leon actually grabs the weirdly marked cube with the faintest trace of magic. Their boy lets out a little ‘oh’ before exploring it with his fingers.

Ren’s nearly vibrating out of her seat by the time Luca hands her one of Esha’s clearly handmade plushies. She looks at it curiously for a few moments before looking between it and Luca. “It’s you. But purple.”

That hint of purple shimmers at the edge of Luca’s form as Spite takes over. “It’s. Me! Esha made. Me!” Spite cheers. Ren gets a cute little blush across her cheeks as she smiles softly.
