Work Text:

There was a skip in her step as soon as she saw him.

Just leaving school, Nathan had never seen Leslie so cheerful. To his surprise, she said hi to him with a hug, which, confused, took him a minute to return.

“Don't you ever do that again…” he murmured, half-heartedly flipping her off, before she smiled at him. She never greeted him like that. What could have happened that made her do so? But afterwards she merely asked if she could walk home with him. Considering Mimsy was absent and how she was his ally, what was there to decline?

It was nicer than usual anyway, with the sun actually melting the snow for one of the first times in a long while. There weren't many words said during the walk, with them only scoffing once they hit the bus stop. The air smelled sickly sweet of dirt, tulips and daisies. It made headlines in Super School News a couple of days ago that Butters, Heidi and Jimmy planted a field of them together, in what was an attempt to ‘build community.’ They weren't the only ones who thought it was lame. Stan's gang was simply face-palming and ripping on Butters when Nathan would have to walk by them in the morning, with Eric surprisingly only being mad that he did it with Heidi of all people.

Leslie plucked one of the daisies.

“It’s quite pitiful how these would be much prettier elsewhere…” She trailed off for a while, looking towards Nathan, then at the city transit bench far off from the South Park sign. “Let me braid your hair,” she stated.

“Pfft, I'm not letting you-”

“Then I'll put flowers as a pony tail in your hair. What colour do you want?”

Nathan scoffed.

“Alright fine, you're getting red tulips-” she quickly scooped a batch of them and took his hand to lead him to the bench, “- I thought you would have been far more pleased with using up all of Jimmy's flowers…”

With a scarlett crown of tulips as a hair tie, Nathan had no idea how Leslie managed to convince him to braid her hair. He was fixing his glasses every second, trying to make sure that it looked better than Jimmy's ‘community project’ and certainly more superior than the whole conspect. At this point, her hair was flowery silk. Rainbow with about every colour that was planted being used at least once. He finished it off with the same red tulips that were on his hair to tie it together.

Staring into the reflection of the city transit glass, she smiled warmly.

“You see that,” Nathan had a smug look on, “matter of time we practically decimate the whole field…”

There were still a significant amount of flowers planted. If anything, nobody would have even noticed that they even took some of the flowers.

Leslie snickered under her breath, even more cheerful than she was earlier.

“Why the fuck are you so happy anyway?...” Nathan asked. “Aren't you supposed to be plotting world domination or something?”

“I just wanted to spend time with you,” she admitted.

“Huh…” Nathan softly smiled, with Leslie taking his hand.

Happy go lucky for once, they walked by the bus stop. Heading for the residences, with the occasional smile to one another. They needed to pass by Jimmy's house first. Which he was unfortunately outside off, journaling by his front lawn.

“Oh hey Leslie,” he waved to them, “hey N-Nathan!”

Nathan lightly tugged on her hand in an attempt to walk faster, but Jimmy only stopped in front of them, holding a stack of newspapers.

“W-wow looks like the f-f-f-flowers me, Heidi and Butters planted r-really paid off!” He looked at the daisies and tulips in their hair. “You kn-know what would be great?”

“If you fucked off?” Nathan asked, to which Leslie only stifled laughter.

“N-no! If I got a picture of you two for the paper!”

Leslie merely whispered under her breath, likely not expecting Nathan to have heard it while he squeezed her hand in agreement.

“L- luckily, I got a ca-camera ri-” Jimmy paused for a moment, taking out a small digital camera from between the papers he was still holding, “-right here! What do you s- say?”

“Alright Jim Jim,” Nathan smugly looked at him, with Leslie wearing a sweet, although sinister smile, “we're… heh… we're in…”

“F- F- Fantastic!”

Still holding hands, they flipped off the camera as soon as Jimmy snapped a picture.
