A big sigh left Parrot’s lips as he turned towards the clock that sat lifeless and still on his counter. It ticked to 2:39 A.M. The red letters engraved onto the sleek surface made the avian a little nervous. Though, he digressed. Softly, he put down the vape, blowing out a cloud of fumes. Parrot shuffled around in the sheets restlessly. It was barely morning, and the same morning he’d always experienced—restless and exhausted.
A sudden vibration could be heard as Parrot blinked out of his thoughts. He glanced down at his belly where his phone laid, buzzing with texts. Only one person ever texted him like that, and as he expected, it was Spoke.
“Yo Parrot”
“Can we fcuk”
“Hang out*”
Parrot felt his face heat up slightly, but he shook his head quickly. He couldn’t let Spoke out of everyone get to him. He didn’t even bother texting back, as the words “read” was probably enough for Spoke. Knowing the deity, he’d probably have to text back soon, or else he’d show up at his house. Picking up the vape once more, he brought it up to his lips and inhaled. Sometimes, he wished that was Spoke’s lips rather than some flavored plastic. The parrot let out an annoyed groan, leaving his mouth against the vape longer than he wanted. Parrot’s phone kept vibrating with texts, but he pushed it against the counter of the nightstand.
He felt kinda pathetic now; it was the holidays, but he didn’t even have anyone to spend the time with. He let go of the poor vape container and stared down at it. The flavor tasted like strawberries and maybe just a taint of Spoke—or was that just his delusions? Parrot didn’t have time to focus on love, he had a whole server to “protect”. But if love wasn’t the person on his phone, then maybe love just didn’t exist for him. The avian just blinked softly, turning onto his side against the fluffy mattress. His wings were pressed against his back like he was fearing for his life. Actually, he had no idea why he was so nervous. Maybe it’s because of the footsteps he heard coming down from the halls of his base. Wait, what? When did that happen? He sat up swiftly, almost giving the door a deadpanned gaze.
“Parrot! Don’t leave me on read…!”
The door suddenly opened as Parrot found himself being hugged. His hands griped onto Spoke’s hair for dear life as he tried to pry him away. Poor Parrot, he just wanted to sleep. Though, his attempts went to waste as Spoke jerked his head just in time for Parrot’s hand to cup one side of his face. They both stayed still—and shocked of course.
“…”
“Parrot. Why’d you leave me on read?” Spoke murmured, finally breaking the silence and nuzzling into the avian’s surprisingly soft hand. His big, fluffy tail found itself wrapped around Parrot’s leg, forcing him to hold him. Parrot didn’t have a good response. Actually, he forgot why he didn’t reply Spoke back then. Maybe it was because they lived pretty close and if anything, Parrot wanted Spoke to come. They both had horrid sleep schedules anyways, so there wasn’t much to lose. But gaining on the other hand? Parrot found himself gaining an unavoidable blush.
“You’re like… blushing so hard.” Spoke mumbled, a smirk growing across his face as he gently pressed Parrot against the bed. At that point, they were just snuggling. But Parrot had to remind himself that it was better than being alone during Christmas.
“Mmmh, yeah, but that’s only because of you—” He had to cut himself off. Parrot’s hand was unconsciously rubbing and petting Spoke’s hair, treating him like a pet. What was even happening by that point? The avian forced himself to stay as still as possible, not wanting Spoke to notice too much. Mainly, he just didn’t want the deity to notice how flustered he was—but Spoke already knew. Parrot always stuttered while flustered, so he’d limit his words—that’s why he was so silent, wasn’t it? It was a comfortable silence that he created, mostly just because Spoke was there. While letting out a shaky sigh, he was caught off guard by a sudden kiss. It was a quick one, of course, but it didn’t fail to catch Parrot’s breath.
“I love you!!” Spoke teased, almost pressing his nose against Parrot’s. Parrot had to shut his eyes because of it, but he couldn’t help but notice how Spoke’s breath smelled almost like strawberries.
“I’ll only say that back when I don’t leave you on read.” He replied, which made Spoke giggle. That comment was a little pretentious, but it doesn’t matter, because it’s Christmas, and Christmas was all about cuddling, I assume.
