The neon lights of Pentagram City flickered outside the Vees’ penthouse, casting a glow over the lavish living space. It was the first Sinsmas since Vox’s humiliating failure to take over Heaven, and the tension between him and Valentino had been unbearable. Their usual banter had turned into sharp words, their shared laughs into icy silence. But tonight, Vox was determined to fix it no matter what it took.
With Velvette’s reluctant help, the penthouse was transformed. Twinkling fairy lights draped over the ceiling, a grand tree stood in the corner adorned with black and red ornaments, and a long dining table was set with elegant silverware and flickering candles. Velvette had scoffed the entire time, muttering about "pathetic romantic gestures," but she had done her part… right up until her final threat.
“If you hurt him again,” she had hissed, jabbing a finger into Vox’s chest, “I’m taking your head and making sure you never get a new body. Got it?”
Vox swallowed hard and nodded. The moment she left, he exhaled shakily, adjusting his bowtie as he paced. What do I say? How do I even start? He had rehearsed a speech a hundred times, but now that the moment was near, words failed him.
A key turned in the lock.
Vox froze as the front door opened, revealing Valentino in all his towering, crimson glory. His moth-like wings fluttered slightly as he stepped inside, his four arms crossed over his chest.
“Ran into Velvette outside,” Valentino drawled, his voice dripping with casual disinterest. “She looked thrilled.” He paused, his glowing pink eyes scanning the room before landing on the candlelit dinner.
Silence stretched between them. Vox’s screen flickered nervously.
Then, before he could second-guess himself, he blurted out: “I want you back, Val. I miss you. I love you.”
Valentino’s expression remained unreadable. Slowly, he stalked forward, his heels clicking against the marble floor. When he was close enough, he reached out with one of his lower hands, gripping Vox’s chin.
“Beg.”
Without hesitation, Vox dropped to his knees, his screen tilting up at Valentino pleadingly. “Val, I’m sorry. I was an idiot. I got too caught up in my own ego, and I… I ruined us.” His voice cracked. “I don’t want to just be business partners. I want you. Not just as a partner.. as my boyfriend. My everything.”
Valentino’s grip loosened slightly, his gaze softening just for a second. Then he smirked. “You really mean that, mi amor?”
“Yes,” Vox breathed. “I swear, things will be different. I don’t care about power plays or rivalries anymore. I just… I need you.”
A slow, genuine smile spread across Valentino’s face. “Mmm… Took you long enough.” He yanked Vox up by the collar, pulling him into a deep, searing kiss.
Vox melted into it, wrapping his arms around Valentino’s waist. The scent of smoke and expensive cologne filled his senses, and in that moment, nothing else mattered. Not Heaven, not Hell, not Alastor, not even the nagging thought lingering in the back of his mind.
Marriage. I want to marry him.. love him.. be with him forever..
But that could wait. It was too soon to ask.
For now, they had a Sinsmas dinner to enjoy together.
