Work Text:

It was Christmas Eve…

“Robin, let’s go!” Steve shouted, already halfway out the door. “Shit, it’s freezing out here. Maybe I need another jacket.”

“Steve, it’s not a dress-up party. You’re already wearing two jackets on,” Robin said, running down the stairs and meeting Steve at the door.

“Okay, let’s go! Deep breaths and embrace the gay,” Steve said, mumbling the last part.

“Right, right, let’s go,” Robin said, dragging Steve out the door before he could start freaking out.

But honestly, she was freaking out a bit too.

Why? Two words.

Nancy Wheeler.

And you might be thinking, “Okay, what about Nancy? For all you know, she’s a normal straight girl who can use a gun and is a fearless leader.”

Buttttt only a bit of that is true.

The gun and fearless leader part is very much canon… normal straight girl? Well, let’s just say as of recently, she’s started to swing the other way.

BuT iSnT iT jUsT hEr BeInG cOnFuSeD oVeR hEr AnD jOnaThAn’S bReAkUp??!?!

No.

She broke up with him ’cause she wanted something different.

Okayyy, now that we have all of that cleared up, let’s go back to your regular program, aka Robin and Steve being gay.

Beeeeepppppp.

“Okay, we’ll be fine. Just two gay disasters going to a party, no big deal,” Steve said, driving slower than usual… probably ’cause of the snow on the roads.

“Yeah, we’ll be fine. You know Eddie isn’t one for big parties anyway, and Nancy is too much of a goody-two-shoes for that,” Robin said, fidgeting with her rings.

“Oh no, no, Robin. I’ve taken Nancy to parties. That girl can drink,” Steve said, staring out the window.

“Oh yeah, I forgot you two dated,” Robin said, laughing at the thought.

“Yeahhh, I’m embarrassed too, but don’t worry, I won’t say anything to your wife about your crush,” Steve said teasingly.

“She’s not my wife—” Robin mumbled.

“Yet. Not your wife yet, Robin. Think about the future. Think about your fairytale ending,” Steve said, taking a left turn and pulling into the driveway of the party house.

“Fairytale ending? That’s not gonna happen… It’s fine. They won’t be here… we can just have fun without worrying about embarrassing ourselves…” Robin said, getting out of the car.

The cold air hit her like a knife. It felt like standing right in front of an oven when you open it, except it’s freezing air instead of warm air.

“Dammit, it’s cold,” Steve said, locking the car.

“Yeah, damn right, and you’re in like two jackets,” Robin said, walking up the stairs and knocking on the door.

“Three, actually, and I’m still freezing my ass off! I told you I shoulda worn more,” Steve said, crossing his arms.

“Steve, are you wearing three layers or three actual jackets?” Robin asked, staring at Steve’s jacket… he clearly only had one on.

“Three layers? Isn’t it the same thing—” Steve said, shivering slightly.

“Fuck, Steve, we have this conversation every winter—” Robin stopped.

The door opened, and there stood Nancy. Robin rubbed her eyes, not liking what she saw… well, she liked Nancy, but she didn’t like the fact she was there. It only stressed her out.

“N-Nancy, hi. You’re here. Wow, what a coincidence, ’cause I’m here too, but uh, look at the time. I should be, uhh, not here. Okay, bye,” Robin said, trying to walk away, but Steve blocked her path.

“Nope, you are going in there.” Steve turned Robin around to face Nancy.

“No, ’cause I, uh, have a shift at uhh… Scoops. Yeah, Scoops Ahoy,” Robin said, looking for some way to get out of this.

“Robin, Starcourt burned down,” Nancy said flatly.

“Oh yeah, uh, then I have to go find a job. Gotta pay those bills,” Robin said desperately.

“It’s Christmas Eve, you can’t go work—” Steve said, pushing Robin inside, but pausing when he saw Eddie sitting in the spin-the-bottle circle.

“Well, this was fun. Come on, Robin, let’s go,” Steve said, turning around.

“Nope, get back here,” Nancy said, grabbing Steve and pulling him into the circle.

Robin and Steve looked at each other, both clearly thinking the same thing.

They needed to leave before they got outed.

“We should go,” Steve whispered.

“Yeah… right after my turn. I wanna see if I have a chance with Nancy,” Robin whispered, spinning the bottle.

Time seemed too slow as it spun.

It slowly stopped, pointing at Nancy.

“Yes!” Robin mumbled, scooting over to a very flustered Nancy.

“Crazy coincidence,” Robin said, tucking her hair behind her ear before leaning in and kissing Nancy, who kissed her back.

“Hmm, I knew she’d get her fairytale ending,” Steve mumbled.

“Yeaaa, good for Robin and Nancy,” Eddie said.

Steve flinched. “Gah—! W-when did you get here?!” Steve said, fixing his hair.

Eddie smiled. “I’ve been here this whole time… I saw your little gay panic when you saw me.”

“That wasn’t a gay panic… oh, look, Robin and Nancy are done kissing. Better go get Robin before they swallow each other,” Steve said, sounding and looking very, very flustered.

“Or instead…” Eddie said, pinning Steve to the wall, “we could swallow each other instead.”

“Y-yeah, let’s do that—” Steve mumbled, pressing his lips against Eddie’s.

“And that’s the story of how I got with Nancy and how Steve got a boyfriend,” Robin said, closing her notebook. “Any questions?”

Will blinked.

“I just asked how your day was,” he said tiredly.

“Oh… well, shit—” Robin said.
