Chapter Text

It was a nice and beautiful day in Hurricane in the month of May in 1983. A Saturday. But today wasn't just some ordinary day. Today was her first soccer match with her team and a home game at that, The Golden Princesses. She had been training hard in her practices for months and now, it was finally time to show the world what she can really do.

Cassidy: I've been waiting so long for this chance, and now it's finally here! Alright girls, you all ready to show everyone in town what we can do.

What followed was a bunch of cheers from her other teammates and an attempted group hug, which was interrupted by the coach.

Coach: Hold on! Save the celebrations for when we WIN the game young ladies. Now go out there and give it your all!

Everyone: Yes coach!

Coach: Alright Cass, out of all the girls here, I know that you've worked the hardest so you're the team captain. Make sure everything goes great today! We're counting on ya!

Cassidy: Yes sir!

As they made their way onto the field, she looked at the stands. There were a couple dozen people on the seats on both sides. On the away side, she couldn't see anyone she knew. Except for, Charlie and her dad. "What was she doing there. On the other side!" She thought to herself. Did she get lost or something. Like hello, the princesses are on the other side. And then she heard Charlie shout out a name Jessica. Jessica? There wasn't a Jessica on her team. She quickly realized, she was routing for another team. Cassidy was going to make sure the other team lost extra hard just to rub it in Charlie's face next time they met.

Then she looked at the stands on the home team. She didn't know most of them except for some of her teammates parents but she could make out her mom, who was quite energetic to see her daughter play her first match. She used to play quite a bit in the home country of Mexico before she became a Utah citizen. Next to them, she saw her brothers Gabriel and Andrew. Looks like mom wanted them to come to a game and support their big sis.

Gabriel seemed to have some unreadable focus on everything. Like he was going to be examining every little mistake she made. Perhaps he still remembered the incident with the basketball game the two had some time ago. She'll show him that she did not need that ridiculous basketball team he was in and that she could do great on her own.

Andrew didn't seem to be looking at what she was doing at all. Typical little brother. Always having a short attention span if he wasn't causing her grief. Maybe if he paid attention more, maybe he could get something out of this. But upon closer inspection, she could see him talking to someone else beside him. It looked like her friend Evan.

Evan...

"OH DIOS MIO, HE'S HERE TOO!" She screamed to herself. He was here to support her. Now she knew she had to win. She wasn't going to let herself be embarrassed in front of him. If she was going to give 100 percent before, she's definitely going to give double that now.

As the game started and the girls made their way to the field, she managed to see the other team and their captain first hand. The puppet string girls. What an odd name.

"OK girls, we want a good game and a friendly match so play well and play fair!" Said the referee. "Everyone ready? And go!"

The princesses managed to get the ball first but the blonde girl Jessica managed to take it from.one of Cassidy's teammates and scored a goal. This would not do. When they got control of the ball again Cassidy would be sure to be the one to score for her team. Which she did. The two opposing captains looked at each other. They both knew who would be the girl they needed to look out for. This would be a tough match today.
