A little (christmas) miracle

Summary:

A little Loki and Mobius christmas short story.

Chapter Text

It was December 24th, and Loki was excited.. full of anticipation, too.
The tree stood in the living room. It wasn’t perfect—and it wasn’t supposed to be.

Loki had deliberately chosen a smaller tree. He’d picked the one Mobius had looked at just a second longer yesterday while walking past—one that smelled of resin and had grown a little crooked.

And still, Loki circled it for the third time. He narrowed his eyes, as if that would help him figure out the exact angle where it looked the straightest.

“You really should…” he muttered, then cut himself off, exhaled, and forced his hands to stay steady.

Mobius was still at the TVA. His boyfriend was still busy. Sometimes he had to work late.
Loki had only nodded when Mobius left.

“I’ll be back as soon as I can. I’ll hurry,” Mobius had said.

Loki turned away from the tree and extended his hand. Magic flickered briefly over his fingers. Maybe he should use magic… but no. He wanted to do it without magic.

On the floor lay a box of decorations: red and gold ornaments, paper stars, an angel. And a string of lights.

Loki opened the box and took out an ornament. It was light. Not like Asgardian festive decoration.

And yeah.. just as it should be—they lived in New Asgard now. It was nothing like Asgard. And Loki loved it here.

He held the ornament up to the light and studied the reflection in it.. his face.. warped, and behind him the empty room.

Loki lifted the ornament to the tree. Hooked it onto a branch. Maybe he should make it sparkle more with magic?
No. No magic. He wanted to decorate this tree the way humans did.
A bit like a Mobius-way..

So far, he’d hung three ornaments. One had fallen, and he’d fixed it with half of a spell.. but that didn’t count. That was barely magic.

He wanted Mobius to be happy when he came back… to see that Loki had thought of Christmas.

He glanced at the clock. Mobius hadn’t given a time... only said, “I’ll hurry.”
That could mean everything and nothing.

Loki nodded, as if he’d just heard it again.

Then he turned back to the tree.

Maybe the angel should go on top. Or was it too early? Maybe Mobius wouldn’t come until tomorrow. Or not at all—no.
He would come. Of course he would.
