Summary
Miles is 5 when his mother puts him into a deep black suit and knotted tie, the last moment he remembers his father—-large and warm—-before he forgets what his father’s smile looks like, before he forgets him as anything but the photos in his mother’s blue scrapbooks. He tries to find his father somewhere in the back of his mind, in the world, even now when he has an odd, geneticist step-father and a soccer-obsessed half-sister who both can barely stand to glance at him while his mother works too late nights at the hospital, coming back worn and seconds away from crumbling. Brooklyn burns, days bleeding into years, one corrupt politician after another while violence rages on and on until a weirdo in navy blue spandex shows up.
The next time Miles wears a black suit, it is of his own volition. A Spider decorates the front.
