Work Text:

Aki was always careful about his things.

Bills paid on time, groceries organized, and his laptop shut down when he wasn't using it.

Which is why Angel knew something was wrong the second he walked into the apartment and saw Aki’s laptop open on the couch.

Aki wasn’t home yet. His shoes weren’t by the door. The place was quiet except for the hum of the AC.

Angel's curiosity always got the best of him. He leaned over the couch and immediately froze.

The Sims 4 filled the screen.

Angel blinked. Then he leaned closer.

Two adult sims stood in a bright, cozy kitchen. One had black hair, sharp eyes, and an unmistakable permanent scowl. The other was strikingly similar to Angel himself. It had a neutral expression on it's face.

Angel's mouth fell open. ''No way,''

Five kids crowded the background. One crying. One doing homework. One chasing the dog.

Angel couldn't help the smile forming on his face.

Then, the front door opened.

Aki stepped in, taking off his shoes, and clearly exhausted. He saw Angel leaned over by the couch and smirking at his laptop.

His blood ran cold.

''Angel,'' Aki said slowly. ''Don't touch my computer.''

Angel turned, pointing at the screen like he’d discovered a secret hidden by the government.

''Why are we married?''

Aki stopped dead.

''...It's not what It looks like.''

Angel squinted. ''Is that my sim making pancakes?''

Aki's ears went red  ''I can explain—''

Angel counted on his fingers. “One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Why do we have five kids, Aki?''

Aki rubbed his face, trying to hide the blush forming. ''It just kept happening.''

Angel couldn't help but snicker, ''You've been running a whole suburban life behind my back.''

''Can you stop looking at it,'' Aki muttered. ''It's embarrassing.''

Angel grinned. ''I don't know, man. I feel like I just found out my roommate has a secret family.''

Aki reached over and snapped the laptop shut. “I’m not playing it anymore.”

Angel tilited his head, his grin turning into something fond.

''How's our family doing, though?''

Aki shot him a look. “Don’t say that.''

Angel stood up from against the couch. ''No seriously. You can't drop this on me and then cut me off. Are we thriving? Are the kids okay?''

Aki hesitated, then with a sigh he reopened the laptop and sat down on the couch. The house loaded on the screen.

Angel immediately leaned in. “Okay, that kid looks just like you.''

“He won’t sleep unless someone reads to him,” Aki said quietly, clicking through menus.

Angel hummed. ''Uh huh, keep going.''

“And you cook,” Aki added. “Every morning. You maxed out the skill.”

''I knew i'd be useful.'' Angel said.

“You garden. And you play with the kids when they’re tense.” Aki said. “The house stays… calm.”

Angel glanced at him. “And you?”

“I work. I write. I make sure everything’s stable.” Aki shrugged. “Someone has to.”

The Sims laughed on screen, unaware of the tension between their real-world counterparts.

Angel finally nudged Aki’s shoulder. “You know this is kind of sweet, right?”

Aki closed the laptop again, slower this time. “It doesn’t mean anything.”

Angel smiled, heading toward the kitchen. “Didn’t say it did.”

He paused, then added casually, ''But if we did end up like that...''

Aki looked up. ''I hope you'd make me pancakes every morning.''

Angel smirked. ''Only if you read to our children.''

Aki looked away, cheeks warming.

''Deal.''
