“What was the point of all this?” Damien asked. “Boredom?”
“It did liven up my travels,” he answered, that damned smile still on his face. “But no. I’m told you were there when the demon Calesta died.”
“I was.” And the man knew that. Did he have to be so cryptic all the time, or was it just because he knew it would annoy Damien?
“What was it that destroyed him?”
“A sacrifice. He was an Iezu. Made to feed on one emotion, sadism. Overwhelm him with its negative, and—” Damien stopped. The negative of the Hunter might not be the Hunted, but that man had been destroyed already. All that was needed now was to keep him away. “You think that’s enough?”
“It certainly can’t hurt.”
