Work Text:
New Addition
Dealing with the death of a teammate was never easy. They had been chasing after Ari Haswari, a terrorist that they had been after ever since he shot Gerald that night in Autopsy. Not even Tony DiNozzo’s boss, Jethro Gibbs, believed that he was a mole for the FBI. Ari only worked for himself.
Nobody who worked for Gibbs believed that Ari was trying to infiltrate a cell of Al-Quada, it was more like he was running it. There were some people that would have believed Ari though. But apparently not even FBI knew what Ari was up to. Even they were surprised to know that Ari was currently in Norfolk, something they found out because of the spoof phone. Something that they only found out because NCIS had tracked his location using NSA satellites.
They had taken down every terrorist that they had come across in that warehouse. All except for one. Ari.
And now Agent Todd was lying dead in her own blood, taking a bullet to the head. There was no doubt that Ari had been the one to fire the killing shot. The only thing that they were missing was the evidence to support that suspicion.
But nobody was prepared for the news of Agent Todd’s replacement. It was much faster than anyone would have liked. Especially when she was still lying on one of Doctor Mallard’s autopsy tables. He was their Medical Examiner and all of his colleagues referred to him as Ducky.
There were a lot of times that Tony disliked Agent Todd but that didn’t mean he wanted her dead. Did he feel elated that he no longer had to argue with someone that questioned his every order? Perhaps. But the death of a NCIS agent was never something he took lightly. The reminder of Chris Pacci’s murder was a painful reminder. But at least Agent Todd didn’t have her guts spilled out on the floor.
Their Forensic Scientist, Abby Scuito, was no doubt running tests on the bullets left from what was assumed as Ari’s Sniper Nest. They were from a .308 Lapua. Any piece of evidence to be found, was being run.
Everyone was determined to prove that it was Ari Haswari that killed one of their own. But that didn’t mean the conversation that Agent Jethro Gibbs had with the Director of NCIS was one anyone looked forward to.
It was in the privacy of his office as Agent Gibbs stood across from him.
“You have my condolences, Agent Gibbs. The loss of Agent Todd is a tragedy and felt by NCIS. She was your agent and was under you and Agent DiNozzo. I understand. But I still have the concern that you are now one agent down. I have let you in the past of choosing your people. But I took the liberty of locating a replacement.”
“Director, she was killed by Ari!” Gibbs rebutted.
“That remains to be seen, and we have no proof that he is indeed the shooter. You’ll meet your new Agent tomorrow. Who knows, you might even like them. But until we see further proof on your claim, there will be no further discussion on this,” Tom ordered.
“Yes, Sir.”
It was evident that the conversation wasn’t one he was pleased to have. Even less that he was being given an Agent to his team. But it wasn’t a fight that he would win with the Director. He would push his luck on another day.
Agent Gibbs wouldn’t be the only one that would come to meet the new Agent that they were being given.
Agent Harrison Potter.
Gibbs didn’t look too impressed when he met him officially. He looked a bit scrawny to him. But he carried an air of confidence to him that you couldn’t deny. He appeared to be closer to Agent DiNozzo’s age, but he didn’t know a thing about him.
Eyes were looking at them when Harrison Potter walked up to Jethro Gibbs that morning.
“Agent Jethro Gibbs, I presume. I was briefed by Director Morrow not long ago. You certainly have my condolences for your agent. I’m Agent Harrison Potter.”
Gibbs mostly raised an eyebrow, having a connection with the Director? He wasn’t expecting that. Apparently, there was more to this new… agent than originally appeared to the eye.
“Your Senior Field Agent is DiNozzo,” Gibbs informed him. “If I haven’t given you an order, you are to follow exactly what he says.”
There was a brief spark of recognition before it was gone.
“Understood,” Harrison told him.
“Good. Then you got Agent McGee. DiNozzo! Take Potter with you and check Ari’s Nest for anything you missed.” Gibbs ordered.
“On it, boss!”
To one’s eye, there wouldn’t be anything to notice about Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo, or Tony as everyone called him. But Agent Potter knew Tony more than most people would ever know.
No words were spoken from the elevator and all the way to the car. Not until they were out of the Navy Yard.
“You didn’t tell me that you were going to transfer to my team, Harry,” Tony told him.
“Neither did I.” Harry revealed. “Got a call from Director Morrow since I have worked with him in the past before I joined at Norfolk. He wanted a better eye on things that might be outside of Agent Gibbs’ experience. MACUSA tends to like to do things their own way, of course. But they do like to have a handful of us in multiple departments. Something that the Director agrees with.”
“And is Ari…”
“No.” Harry denied. “I have done my own research on him and he’s certainly a No-Maj. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t considered a threat. Not just to NCIS and FBI but the magical world too. There would be a lot more damage if he was magical and that is something MACUSA would not stand for.”
“They would have you take him out?” Tony questioned.
“With certainty,” Harry confirmed. “Want to tell me why you’re limping? Because I didn’t get a text or call.”
“Just work,” Tony brushed off.
“Tony…”
Tony groaned at that; he could never get anything past Harry. Ever.
“Just a little explosion. Might have had two dead agents instead of one if I hadn’t,” Tony mumbled.
“Tony… you just recovered by the plague… and do not sell yourself short. You lost a coworker. You lost an agent. You know that it is bound to happen, but what matters is how you respond to it. And catch the bastard who did it. Though, I would have preferred that you told me instead of pretending it never happened. I’m not Gibbs. I am not McGee and I am certainly not Todd.”
“I think I can manage that.”
Harry nodded before stepping out of the car, following after Tony. He looked around the supposed sniper’s nest. Nothing alarming was sticking out to him. Seeing it was only him and Tony on that roof, he drew out his wand. No words were spoken as a nonverbal charm was cast. Revelio.
Nothing. He couldn’t pick up any use of dark magic. He doubted that he would since it had been a .308 that had killed Agent Todd.
Tony had an expected look on his face before Harry shook his head.
“Not picking up anything here. There aren’t any magical traces either. Not that I expected there to be. I honestly rather there not be.”
“Can you tell if it was Ari?” Tony asked.
“That is a bit harder. He wouldn’t have a magical signature and there really isn’t anything for me to track. And since there isn’t any magical residue here, there are no traces. So there is no way to prove who was here. Unless…”
Tony looked at him.
“Is there anything that they might have touched or even a hair?” Harry told him.
Hair was honestly the best thing to use. He didn’t say but there was a potion that he could brew that would confirm or not if this had been Ari Haswari or not. It wasn’t something he would be able to show as evidence, no to No-Majs. But perhaps to the Director…
Agent Gibbs probably wouldn’t be happy that they couldn’t find anything more. Well… if the man had been his normal grouchy self. Even Tony was a bit weirded out that Gibbs was being nice. He didn’t like it.
Harry did get assigned what used to Agent Todd’s desk. Though he wasn’t at that desk while Tony was downstairs in the Forensics Lab with Abby. Probably a lucky thing since a bullet had been fired through the glass in the lab.
Tony didn’t think before he reacted as he shoved Abby down to the floor. Pulling her away from the window. It took time before Gibbs had shown up, no doubt he had heard the shot being fired. Keeping Abby company as Tony crawled until he could make it out of the lab. He needed to alert the Metro police of the incident and that included Anacostia Park.
Though he was surprised as any to see Harry walking in soaking wet. It was still raining outside, and it wasn’t like Harry didn’t know any warming spells or whatever.
He hadn’t been far away when he also heard the gunshot and instead of running towards NCIS. He cast a Disillusioned Charm and ran towards the shot. It was dark but he recognized who it was. His weapon had been withdrawn and fired instantly. He knew that he got them before they had driven off.
It was raining but there were some blood splatters that he didn’t hesitate to collect. This would also prove who the shooter was. But he would get the update as soon as he arrived back at NCIS. He heard the gunshot but not at who. He hadn’t ever met the Forensic Scientist, Abigail.
Given the current case that they were working on, the first meetings would have been set for later. But he needed his Potions lab back at home. That could wait until later, seeing that the next morning would be when things were starting to come together.
That was the morning that he and Tony officially met Ziva David, a Mossad Officer. He didn’t need to hear what she did to know that this woman was dangerous. She was incredibly evasive about why she was there. Except for that she needed to speak with Agent Gibbs.
“Don’t give me that, Miss David. Mossad, you might be. You have an motive and I highly suspect that it is not just about wanting to meet Agent Gibbs. We are not fools so do not take us as one. So, how about you get past your little shit show and tell me why you are here. Maybe… I’ll consider you speaking to him or you will find your way out of the door.”
To anyone else, they wouldn’t be able to see her thrown off. But Harry could tell that he caught her off guard.
“You are?” Ziva asked.
“An NCIS agent,” Harry crossed his arms. “Looks like you didn’t do your homework. Now, let me ask you this again. Why do you wish to speak to Agent Gibbs?”
“I am here to stop him from killing a Mossad Officer.”
Harry could tell she had bitten out the answer, but he didn’t care.
“Ari Haswari…you here to actually say he is working for Mossad. You don’t know him well enough, Miss David. Even I know he operates on how he likes,” Harry informed her.
Whatever she might have been said was disrupted by the appearance of Agent Gibbs. He still kept a listening ear in case he overheard any information that could be useful. Which didn’t happen until she had walked away from them. But it wasn’t hard for him to cast a Disillusionment Charm.
She might still pick up where he was but without seeing him… She started to speak in Hebrew into the phone that she was on. Not everyone was well versed in as many languages as he was. Something that had been required of him for many years.
So, he was able to pick up that whoever she was speaking with, that she would be able to convince them of their innocence. Given who they were just speaking about, he had no doubt in his mind that Ari was on the other line.
It was easy to place a tracker, one of his own invention. So that he could hear what both sides of the conversation were saying. But it seems even she was aware that Agent Gibbs knew Ari was far from innocent.
There was a doubt if Miss David was really just Ari’s Control Officer though. No matter what she said of the matter. There was more there that he needed to figure out, especially when hearing the words, I want to see you.
At least he could use the additional time to decipher through the call. But it might have to be placed on hold given that Tony volunteered him for the next assignment. Tracking Ziva David at the Embassy Row Hotel. Which he vowed to get Tony to tell him later what made Gibbs change his mind on sending him rather than his Senior Field Agent.
Even he would have told him that Ziva would spot him a mile away. He wouldn’t get caught, unlike Tony. Disguise had always been something he had excelled in. Even more so over the last several years. But he had something over everyone else did, being a Metamorphmagus. The ability to change what he looked like at will.
Which is why he enjoyed this line of work the best. And even better, he didn’t have to follow her to know what hotel she was staying at. Not with his own tracker on her clothes to guide him to her exact location. But even she wouldn’t recognize him.
Where before his hair was short that ended around his neck with strands that liked to slightly curl. Now, his vibrant red hair grew length until it went just past his shoulders. He tossed his work attire into a spare bag to replace them with a fitting top with jeans. Even the color of his eyes morphed to a brown shade.
Far as Ziva would know, was that she met with a man and now if she was to look at her, she would be greeted with a woman.
He actually found her in the pool doing laps. But found there was a passport and money in the robe that belonged to Ziva. Not once did Ziva notice what he was doing. Though it didn’t escape his notice when spotting a second woman enter, also wearing a Star of David around her neck. He was already in the pool at that moment. But noticed that Ziva didn’t take her robe with the passport and money in it. It was left with the woman that was now swimming where Ziva had been.
Harry got out of the pool before the unknown woman had. He hated having the long hair as he tried to towel it dry. Using a nonverbal Heating Charm before throwing his clothes back on. From there, it would appear that he had just gone for a swim and then left. Unaware that he was currently under a Disillusionment Charm.
One text was sent. Found passport and cash.
He didn’t need to worry about the rest since he was positive Tony and Gibbs would be there shortly. He intended to follow the woman. He could follow her wherever she went with a tracker. It didn’t matter if he had tried following her in a car and lost them. He didn’t keep his disguised look after leaving the hotel.
But not once did he see Tony or Gibbs, which he would later learn on why. That Ari had convinced their Medical Examiner, Doctor Mallard to meet with him. That it would throw Gibbs off.
He had his own orders, of course. If it came down to it, he was to take Ari out. But he had waited until the money and passport had changed hands.
That was the first time he had come face to face with Ari Haswari. There was no hesitation of putting a round through his head before Ari’s weapon fell from his hand. His weapon then was aimed at the mystery woman.
“Give me a reason and I’ll do it,” Harry threatened.
The woman didn’t move before slowly raising her hands before Harry placed the cuffs on her. She would be Mossad’s to deal with. And so would Ziva. That was when he made one phone call. And it was to the Director Morrow.
It was only a matter of time before Agent Gibbs and Tony showed up. Since Agent McGee was still at NCIS. The most he got from Gibbs was a nod of approval.
“The Director plans to turn her over to Mossad for aiding a terrorist. He will also want to speak to Miss David as well. Something about urgent matters that she needs to hear from the Deputy Director from Mossad. As I also believe the phone call from Miss David may implicate her in this,” Harry told Gibbs.
“Phone call?” Gibbs questioned.
Harry nodded, “I overheard Miss David having a phone conversation that seemed a bit private as she started speaking in Hebrew to mask what it was about.”
Gibbs nodded, “DiNozzo mentioned something about that. Thought you were much better suited and I have to agree. He was right. You speak Hebrew?”
Harry nodded, “among other languages. My prior work found I have a high skill set in undercover. But it should be all you need. I will have to ask if you can identify the voice on the other line. If it was indeed Ari or not. Not that it matters much for him. But I would wager Mossad would want to take care of this personally.”
Agent Gibbs looked impressed. Even more so after the fact after he listened to the phone recording after Harry had decoded it. From there it was out of his hands and in the Director’s.
Director Morrow wouldn’t ever get a thank you from Gibbs. But it would be as close as you could get providing Potter was considered the newest agent of their team. Word was that Miss David was already back in Israel. It was now a concern of Mossad.
