Work Text:
The room was thoroughly decorated with red ribbons, wrapping all around the ceiling, a Christmas themed cloth anywhere with a usable surface. There were two opposing tables, one of plenty of snacks and drinks, and the other a blank slate to be filled with the dinner to come. Warm scents of food floated from the kitchen, mingling with the ever-present scent of alcohol. You mentally begged that no one sneaked that dreaded Christmas song onto the playlist as you sat on the couch, leaning against Integra’s shoulder, your hand in hers.
Your other hand held your UNO cards, you looked through them, mentally planning it all. Theoretically, if you put down a blue seven, with the high possibility that the color remains blue, you can place a blue plus two, and someone might stack it, letting you put down your yellow plus two. In case the stacking didn’t work in your favor, you still had a plus four. It didn’t matter if you made Integra draw four cards, it’s UNO for god’s sake. Everything went perfectly according to plan, now Alucard put down a plus four, making Seras draw, and Integra drew as well, as she did not have the specified color; which was red.
You put down a red six, and Alucard reversed the turn to you, so you put down a yellow six, leaving you with two cards left. Integra subconsciously gripped your hand tighter, staring holes into those cards, her face tense and serious. Finally, Integra put down a plus four, declaring the color to be green. Of course it was green, you thought to yourself, an affectionate smile on your face as you looked at her. What did you do to deserve to be with such an amazing woman? You thought to yourself.
“Why do I always have to draw…” whined Seras under her breath.
Then Alucard put down a plus four and declared the color as red, to which you responded by putting down a plus four, declaring the color as yellow after shouting UNO. For a second, you turned to look at Integra, remembering this is only her third time playing the game, and said;
“Don’t take it personally, there are no alliances in UNO.”
“Good, that’s how competitive games should be.”
Integra placed a plus two, making Seras draw a whooping total of ten cards. You almost laughed to yourself seeing the ridiculous amount of cards Seras had in her hands, Alucard most definitely found it humorous as well, as he was blatantly laughing while Seras drew her cards in resignation. He put down a yellow six, but you shouted UNO before him. Finally, you won, calling out UNO before putting down your last one, a wild card. A few minutes after the cards had been stored, you turned to Integra and asked;
“Do you want anything to drink or eat?”
“Just some Coca-Cola.”
“I’ll bring it in a second.”
“Thank you, (Y/N).” she said, smiling softly.
You returned shortly after with a cup of Coca-Cola. Integra thanked you as you handed her the cup and sat down and leaned against her, your eyes feeling heavy. Integra smiled softly, as you hugged her arm and buried your head in her neck. You could feel the smell of her shampoo take over your mind as her long hair tickled your nose—a warm fuzzy feeling began to overtake you along with sleep. But you were suddenly brought back to reality by Integra’s voice.
“Would you like some caffeine?, you seem tired.”
“Yeah, probably… Do you think there’s any Red Bull?”
“Let me check for you.”
Soon after, she came back. “They don’t have any, we can walk to the nearby gas station if you want? It’s a bit far, though.”
“Sure.” you murmured, stretching and yawning, hardly noticing the soft adoring smile on Integra’s face, her professional demeanor gone during these holidays.
She helped you up, and let you cling to her as you walked under the dim light of the streetlamps. The heat of her arm felt like a shield against the cold gusts of winter, and the cyclical death of the warm sun.
The light first overwhelmed you when you reached the convenience store from the empty streets and the chime of the door welcomed you. As your vision cleared you could see the shelve, fridges, and a bored cashier scrolling on their phone. You and Integra walked over to the energy drink fridge, and simply got a yellow edition Red Bull, paid, and left.
“Can I have a sip?” Asked Integra.
“Sure.”
You handed her the can and took a sip right after only to see Integra’s face completely flushed.
“Are you alright?” you asked, noticing Integra’s flustered expression.
“The can.”
“Do you not like the flavor?”
“I do like the flavor. We kissed indirectly, I’m not upset, it’s not that I don’t like kissing you.”
“Oh, you know, you can just ask me if you want to kiss me? We’ve been dating for 5 years.”
“I know, I just only realized now. Can I have another sip?”
“Sure.” you could have sworn you saw her lick your spit off the rim. Needless to say, with the implication that her spit went in there, you chugged the whole drink soon after getting it back.
Suddenly, with the greeting of light and blasting sound, you could hardly distinguish someone telling you to look upwards; mistletoe. Alucard was dangling mistletoe on you and Integra. You both stared at each other awkwardly for six or seven seconds until Integra started angrily scolding Alucard.
Later on, while you were getting ready for bed, Integra gently grasped your chin, rubbing your lips with her thumb. You froze, your breathing hitched, and your pupils widening.
“I feel like you’re owed a fairer kiss than a prank under mistletoe, (Y/N). May I give it to you?”
You nodded, your lips meeting in a softer, more loving kiss than the one from the mistletoe. You could feel Integra’s arms wrap around your neck and pull you closer, deepening the kiss with her tongue.
