Work Text:

"You and me. Christmas?"

Was Kiryu being serious? Of course he was being serious - he was always this upfront and somewhat dry, even in person. But did he actually expect Nito to drop his family and his baby bunnies to spend Christmas with him? Especially after asking over Hold-Hands and not even bothering to, well, bother Nito in person?
Christmas? With him? Him? Kiryu Kuro? Seriously?

Well? Where was he, then?!
Nito had been standing out front of Seisoukan in the snow for the past fifteen minutes, looking a little too much like a lost rabbit on the side of the road than he would have liked. It was getting really cold, and Kiryu still hadn't shown up. Some audacity. He'd already fallen short in Nito's books with that Hold-Hands message, and now this? Standing up Nito Nazuna of Ra*bits on Christmas day?
"Hey! Nito-"
"WAAH!" Nito whirled, fully ready to rip a stranger a new one-
It was just Kiryu Kuro, towering over Nito bundled in a coat and dappled with snowflakes.
"Kurochin! Took yew fweakin' foweva!" Nito wasted no time going off on him. He deserved it. Bastard.
"I thought you got over that speech thing?"
"It comes back sometimes. Like when I'm really, reawy angwy."
Kiryu rubbed the back of his neck with a sheepish chuckle, clouding the air in front of him. "I'm sorry, I am.. I still managed to us a reservation at that fancy new place you wanted to check out.." he paused. "But I'll understand if you're too angry or the cold made you lose your appetite.."
He wasn't being genuine. He was clearly trying to guilt trip Nito.
But that wasn't even what worked. It was the promise of food. It was always food.
Damn you, food.

The walk to the restaurant was quiet, but not an awkward quiet. Actually, scratch that, it wasn't quiet at all because Kiryu kept growling at passerby who so much as breathed in Nito's direction. And when he wasn't busy doing that, he was running his trap.
"What'd you ask Santa for this year, Nito?"
"A best friend who doesn't blow me off Christmas day."
Kiryu laughed. A loud, barking laugh.
"I guess I deserve that. You been a good boy this year, Nito?~"
"I- ew, what?! What kinda fwickin' qwestion is that??"
Another laugh. Nito's cheeks burned, but not in a bad way.

Soon, they stood in front of the restaurant. Kiryu's hand paused on the door.
"Looks kinda dead in there.."
Nito sighed. "It's Christmas, Kurochin. Everywhere's dead. I'm surprised this place is even open."
One particular snowflake on Kiryu's spiky red and black hair caught Nito's eye. It had fallen kind of weird. It was pissing him off. Standing up slightly wobbly on his tiptoes, he braced himself with one freezing hand clutching Kiryu's arm while he reached and brushed the snowflake away. Kiryu looked down at him, eyes sparkling against the starry winter sky.
"W-whadda ya wookin' at, huh? Open tha door, 'm cold.. 'n huwngry.." Nito snapped.

The food was good. Really good. Which was saying a lot after trying Niki's cooking.
Kiryu was weirdly silent on the walk back to Seisoukan. He didn't even do the whole 'protecting his Nito' from innocent bystanders who were doing absolutely nothing thing.
"What shut you up, Kurochin?"
"Hah.. nothing. I was just thinking." he shoved his hands into the pockets of his coat. "Christmas has become a lot more about love, hasn't it? Now that we're growing up?"
Suddenly it was 99 degrees.
"T-that's nawt what I meant when I said I'd wather hear 'I want you, Nito' in a diffewent cawntext..!"
It was, though. It absolutely was. He was just too prideful to ever admit it.
Kiryu laughed yet again, his whole face aglow, almost handsome against the snowy Christmas night. "Funny that you bring that up, because I have this little project I'm working on-"
Nito clapped his hands over his ears, reddened from the cold and Kiryu. "I'm changing what I asked Santa for! My only wish this year is for a best friend who doesn't make me model all the girly stuff he sews! Seriously, it's weird!"

"And seriously, I want you, Nito."

Snowflakes swirled around them as they continued walking in silence, Kiryu's gaze going unmet until Nito had made up his mind - which didn't take long at all, because you'd have to be insane to reject the person you lowkey like on Christmas.
Nito Nazuna is many things, but insane is not one of them.
