Work Text:

Nidus spun one of the daggers in his grip and lunged forward. Forcing through a spray of blood he forced his feet heavy against the ground with every step, trapping his prey in their tracks as he harvested them one by one.
“Calm down will you.” Taking half a second to acknowledge his irritated companion who was working his magic as quickly as possible and looking fairly sickly for it.
In that singular moment of contemplation Nidus was reminded of the all important reason for his haste and promptly redoubled his efforts.
Stabbing his blades through a corrupted soldier he raised it over his head and forced the blades apart bisecting the squirming meal before it could fire off a shot. Bathed in blood, he considered stopping for a quick bite, but he could hear the gears turning and knew that he would have to scrounge up something once his task was finished. It wasn’t like his companion would allow him to feed on the corrupted properly anyway, but he was slower than Nidus and there was always the chance that in his hunger he would forget their agreement. For now he satisfied himself to absorb what he could from the corrupted he killed until they were despoiled away.

His feet took him finally to the object of his preparation. Alarms were still blaring around them, but as he turned and pulled Nekros into the small room the sound was cut off instantly. There was a minor struggle of confusion in the ensuing darkness before the lights kicked on revealing a lopsided tree of rare varieties of eximus that he’d taken great care to preserve days earlier.
“Merry Tennobaum.”
His companion froze mid sigh to take in the display before him.
“I will never understand these moods you get in Nidus. Thank you.”
He produced a small wrapped gift that he’d pressed between the pages of his grimoire and tossed it over to Nidus. It didn’t smell like food which was a strong departure to what he had come to expect from the necromancer, but he supposed that he hadn’t provided an offering like this before either. Carefully pulling away the thin paper he lifted a golden ornament twisted into a mesmerizing shape that matched the color of his own frame. Attaching the ornament quickly to the end of one of his daggers, Nidus lifted it high to watch the small thing dance in the air. It didn’t look tasty and wasn’t anything to be eaten, but it was something he supposed that might last longer than something eaten.
“Now, we can’t let this gift go to waste. Once I’m done extracting what I need, there will be no use left for the remains.”
Nidus perked up at the implied offer. The holiday might turn out even better than he’d even planned.
