Work Text:
She was supposed to come back. Elphaba was supposed to be here, in their dorm room. They were supposed to be here together.
That’s when she was supposed to get her gifts. That’s when Galinda was supposed to tell her.
Well actually, it was supposed to be the pamphlet that told her, but Galinda chickened out. She decided to do it on a note with a few gifts instead. That way, after the excitement of the Emerald City, it would ease the ache of returning to boring old Shiz. It would ease some of the disappointment of coming home to just Galinda.
Now they didn’t have that problem anymore, not she had her private suite and Elphaba had her freedom, her mission.
The gifts were perfectly curated to Elphaba, so now they were just as useless as the ridiculous love note she had attached. They were as useless as her affections now were with no one to go to.
Galinda ripped up her note. It was the first sacrifice in her new quest of martyrdom, the last lesson she’ll ever learn from her best friend. Elphaba had her mission, and now Glinda had hers as well.
