Chapter Text
(yelena’s pov)
“GET OUT OF MY WAY YELENA, YOUR MOTHER IS HERE.” Alexei yells, shoving me into a doorway. My back hits the corner of the doorway, sending a sharp prick of pain through my body. I turn to see my dad running up to my mom, hugging her like a mama bear hugs her children. Sighing, I walk away from the scene. I can never understand them. One minute they’re in love, the next they hate each other. And now they’re in love again? It just doesn’t make sense.
Walking down the hallway, I turn my head and look out the window seeing Bob prancing around like a dog. Laughing, I decide to go outside to see what the big deal is. I walk out the door and the cold air hits my face like a brick, I hear Bob chuckling. I look around and there's snow on the ground, and snow is falling softly, I turn to face him and I see he’s giggling and sticking out his tongue. Catching the small snowflakes on his tongue. I walk over to him, just watching him.
“Look Yelena!! Snow!!” He says, smiling widely.
“Yes, I see… Why are you so excited?” I ask.
He closes his mouth and looks at me funny, “I’ve lived in Florida my whole life, remember?”
“Oh, and is there not snow in… uh Flordiaahh?”
He laughs, “It’s just Florida, and uh no, not normally.” He leans down and grabs a handful of snow, making it into a ball. “Normally it feels like hell has consumed everything, because it’s so darn hot,” he says, chuckling the snowball at my face.
I duck, laughing. “Do not throw another on-” A snowball hits my face. “BOB I SAID DON’T THROW A SNOWBA-” another one hits my neck and I fall over into the snow
“OKAY THAT’S IT” I try to get up but Bob throws another one at me, this time it hits my back, causing me to face plant into the snow. I lift my head up, spitting out snow.
“Robert, I will come after you in your sleep.” I spit out, feigning anger. I manage to stand up without Bob attacking me again. Turning around I grab a handful of snow and I try to throw it in his face, unfortunately it falls to the ground a few inches away from him.
“You have to make it into a ball, Lena,” He says laughing. “Here watch;” He grabs a handful of snow and mushes it into some sort of square shape.
“Yes, that’s definitely a ball,” I say, laughing at him.
“Oh shut up,” He throws snow in my face and I laugh, throwing some in his. He jumps up and runs behind a tree, crouching down making little snow balls.
“Oh so we’re gonna have a snowball fight now?” I ask, lurking closer to him, my feet crunching in the snow.
A snowball whirrs through the air, hitting my shoulder with a loud thump. Giving me an answer. I chuckle and duck behind a tree, making a snowball collection of my own. He’s gonna get it this time. I grab some snow and start the process, rolling them into balls and gently placing them on the ground. The more snowballs I make, the colder I get. I guess this is what I get for not wearing gloves. Suddenly I hear the snow behind me crunch on the ground, and before I can turn around I feel snow falling down my shirt.
“Ahhhhh!!” I screech. “Bob!! Why!?”
“Because I can, and because it’s fun.” He responds by grabbing a handful of snow and throwing it in my face. And then he runs away.
“YOU’RE SUCH A CHILD.” I say, running after him.
I kick the snow in front of me, it hits Bob in the legs and he tumbles over, but before I get to him, he’s up again. Throwing snowballs at my face. I grunt and grab snow with my almost frozen hand, running to him as fast as I can, once I get to him, I pounce on him, the both of us falling to the ground. I stuff the snow in my hand down his shirt and he squeals, pushing me off of him.
“YELENA!! That’s so cold!!” He exclaims, shivering.
I laugh, still laying on the ground. “Yeah I know, Bob. That was pay back”
He sighs, laying on the ground next to me. His hand curls over mine, his thumb caressing my skin gently. I turn over and look at him. His chest gently rises and falls, I reach over and brush some snow off his face, he turns his head to look at me.
“Are you enjoying your Christmas day?” He asks, quietly. His lips move slowly. God, they look so soft.
“Most of it. The part where Alexei slammed me in a doorway not so much.”
Bob lets out a boisterous laugh. “He what? Why?” he says, still laughing.
“My mom’s here. For the day.”
“Well, are you excited about that?”
“I wouldn’t use that word, but I’d say I’m intrigued that she's here. You know, she hasn’t wanted anything to do with me or Alexei since.. well the last time I saw her.” I scoff, “And that was ten years ago.”
He sighs. “Wow, that’s quite awhile. Do.. Do you know why she’s decided to come now? I mean she could’ve showed up ten Christmases ago, but she didn’t. Right?”
“No, I don’t know why. But, I think Alexei called her or something. Asking if she could come.. He seemed super excited that she was here. I hope she doesn’t let him down, y’know.”
He sighs, sitting up. “Yeah, let’s hope for the best, okay?” He stands up, extending a hand to me. I grab it and he pulls me up. “Wow, your hands are so cold.”
I chuckle, “Yes, they are. And yeah, let’s hope for the best.” I pause and turn to him, “Thank you.” I start walking back to the Tower.
“For what?” He asks, following me.
“Just.. Being there.. For me.” I say, opening the side door to the Tower.
“Oh, of course.” He smiles, and steps in the doorway, looking up. “Oh, mistletoe..”
I look up and chuckle. “Wonder who put that there.”
“It was probably for John and Ava, Bucky’s been trying to get them to hook up for a long time.”
I chuckle, “Really now?”
“Yeah, they hang out a lot and Bucky’s noticed where John’s eyes go when Ava’s not looking.”
“Does it have to be just for them though?”
He blushes, “Uhh what do you mean?”
And without thinking about it, my lips are pressed against his. I push him against the door frame and wrap my arms around his neck. His hands slid around my waist, the warmth of his body warmed me. I pull back from the kiss.
“What’d ya think?” I ask, playfully.
He blushes again, “I..I think you should do that again..”
I chuckle, “In due time.”
