A cold chuckle cuts the air. Three heavy bootfalls, and he's plucking the bottle from her hands. When she flinches at the overly familiar kiss he brushes over her cheekbone, his long fingers collar her bruised throat, forcing her to look at him.
“Sweetheart,” Tommy croons, tucking her hair behind her ear with a tenderness that's mismatched with the mean glint in his good eye. “Joel never would have fucked you. He was a bad man, but he wasn't that bad.”
Her breath wheezes around the hand squeezing her neck. “So what does that make you?”
“Worse.”
