Never Let Your Boyfriend Get In The Way Of Meeting Your Girlfriend

Summary:

AU Wenclair first meet. Yoko took Enid ice skating for the first time and BOOM she meets an ever so stoic Wednesday Addams in a sticky situation and decides to help…

Notes:

Hey guys! Yes, I’m back! Alive and…well? Let’s just say the AO3 curse got me and I’ve had a…difficult couple of months…

Anyways, I’m trying to get back on my feet and have been writing short ficlets on twitter.

This particular one is a cute one I made some days ago. I was asked to continue it so here’s the full version of this one shot. Hope you like it!

Here’s the OG post. https://x.com/nyxsmols/status/2003964777475809506?s=61

A change in time was made to fit a certain scene that came after but yeah.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Yoko had finally managed to convince Enid to go ice skating.

“You know, as a wolf, cold isn’t our thing,” Enid complained as she finished tightening the straps on her rented skates.

Yoko laughed. “Quit whining, pup. You’ll love it, trust me.”

Enid shot her best friend a look. She was visiting New York during her university break, and Yoko had dragged her to the Rockefeller Center ice rink on New Year’s Eve.

“Fine. Let’s do this.” Enid stood up carefully, wobbling as she shuffled toward the ice.

“Hold it, pup. Basics first,” Yoko announced. “You start slow. Hold the edge of the rink until you get your balance. No shortcuts.”

Enid nodded as they stepped onto the ice. She slipped twice before finally stabilizing, clinging to the edge while Yoko skated beside her, steering her away from several near-disasters.

Once Enid got the hang of the motion, she loosened her grip, skating close to the wall but no longer clutching it for dear life.

Across the rink, Wednesday Addams was enduring her own personal hell.

She was not one for romantic gestures, but she had accepted a barista’s relentless request for a date, with conditions. She chose the location. Ice skating was her torture of choice. If she had to suffer, she would do it properly.

“Just relax your shoulders,” the barista said, rubbing her back in what he clearly thought was a reassuring way.

Wednesday rolled her eyes. “I have been skating since I was three and if you wish to keep your fingers intact, I suggest you remove your hands.”

The moment her skates touched the ice, she pushed off effortlessly, gliding away with him scrambling behind her.

“Hey, slow down!” he laughed. “I’m still here, you know!”

Wednesday huffed. She had a bet to win. Thing had wagered she would never agree to a date, and she refused to lose, despite deeply regretting her current life choices when the barista suddenly wrapped an arm around her waist.

“See? That’s better,” he said with a grin.

Wednesday considered several creative ways to poison him right then and there. She was so distracted that she barely registered the colorful blur sliding straight toward her.

“A beginner,” she thought, just as the girl crashed into her.

Wednesday reacted instantly, arms wrapping around the other woman’s torso to keep them both upright. She guided them smoothly toward the edge of the rink, stopping them just in time.

“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” Enid blurted out. “I’m new at this and I lost control and…” She froze when she noticed where Wednesday’s hands were resting. “…uh. Could you…?”

Wednesday looked like a deer caught in headlights, immediately letting go of her chest, and taking a step back for extra precaution. “My apologies. Miss…?”

“Enid,” she said, smiling. “Thank you for saving me.”

She opened her arms for a hug just as the barista skated up beside them.

“Careful next time, blondie,” he said dismissively.

Wednesday shot him a glare. “I can handle this myself.” She shrugged his hand off her shoulder.

Enid noticed the tension instantly. One glance between them was enough to piece things together.

“Well,” Enid said brightly, flashing her fangs, “you look like you know what you’re doing. Do you mind teaching me a few moves?”

Wednesday did not hesitate. “If it prevents further casualties, I will assist you.”

“Hey, what about me?” the barista protested, reaching for her arm again.

Wednesday slid away from his reach. “Consider this the end of our date. Have the night you deserve.”

She skated off with Enid beside her, a firm hand settled at Enid’s waist.

From a distance, Yoko snickered at the barista’s stunned expression. “Damn,” she muttered, skating past him. “Looks like my friend just stole your girl.” She patted his back sympathetically. “Like I always say, never let your boyfriend get in the way of meeting your girlfriend.”

And with that, she glided away, laughing.

Wednesday guided Enid properly this time, her hand still firm at her waist. “Bend your knees slightly. You are too upright.” She instructed.

“Oh. Like this?” Enid adjusted, wobbling a bit as she did.

Wednesday sighed, “Less like a baby deer,” She said dryly, tightening her grip when Enid nearly fell. “More like a predator.”

Enid laughed, breath fogging the cold air. “You have a very specific teaching style.”

“It is effective,” Wednesday replied matter-of-factly. “You are still alive.”

Enid glanced sideways at her, “That’s…comforting.” She said, giggling nervously.

They slowed their pace. Wednesday adjusted Enid’s posture with precise, careful touches and an unwavering focus.

“You are improving,” Wednesday said. “Rapidly.”

Enid beamed. “That’s because you’re a very good teacher…” There was a glint in her eyes that made warmth creep up Wednesday’s neck. She frowned and looked away, pretending to be far more interested in the ice ahead.

Enid noticed her blush and decided to push her luck a bit. “You’re quite impressive, actually. I’m surprised you’re not a famous figure skater or something. Especially, considering I don’t even know your name.”

Wednesday blinked. She hadn’t realized she had skipped that step entirely.

“…Wednesday,” she said after a moment. “Wednesday Addams.”

Enid’s smile softened, something warm and curious settling in her expression. “Wednesday,” she repeated, as if testing how it felt. “I’m Enid Sinclair.”

“I am aware,” Wednesday replied. Then, after a pause that felt suspiciously intentional, “It suits you.”

Enid laughed, a bright sound that made Wednesday’s grip at her waist tighten by instinct.

“Are you always this protective?” Enid asked, drifting a little closer.

Wednesday met her gaze, dark eyes steady. “Only when it matters...”

They kept skating in comfortable silence, Enid’s movements growing steadier with each lap. Eventually, she glanced down at Wednesday’s hand, still resting at her waist. “You can let go now, you know. I think I’ve got it.”

“I have realized.” Wednesday said calmly but didn’t move her hand.

Enid smiled to herself, enjoying the moment with her mysterious savior.

After a while, Enid tested her luck, slipping on purpose and grabbing Wednesday’s sleeve for balance. Wednesday caught her easily, pulling her back against her.

“Clumsy,” Wednesday muttered.

“And yet,” Enid said softly, leaning closer, “you keep catching me.”

Wednesday met her gaze, dark eyes unreadable. “I dislike unnecessary messes.”

“Is that what I am?” Enid whispered, tilting her head towards Wednesday, their faces inches apart.

Wednesday paused. Just for a heartbeat. “No.” She released her carefully and cleared her throat. “Show me what you have learned.”

Enid smiled with confidence, slowly fixing her posture and skating next to Wednesday, no longer touching but close enough that their shoulders brushed, neither one making any effort to create distance.

From the edge of the rink, Yoko watched the whole thing with a grin. “Get her, girl,” she murmured. “And she’s says she has no game.” She chuckled, shaking her head.

They had been skating for what felt like an eternity when Wednesday felt it, a pan of panic, the pull of momentum, the familiar urge to accelerate, to run.

She closed her eyes, trying to clear her head but Thing’s smug little victory dance popped in instead. So, she pushed harder, skating faster, trying to leave everyone behind and for a moment, she thought she’d succeed until she felt Enid’s arms wrap around her waist.

“Don’t go…” Enid whispered in her ear, not quite pleading, but close. Her warm breath sending a chill down her spine. “I’m still learning...”

Wednesday slowed immediately and the realization hit her like cold water… She had never slowed down for anyone, yet here she was, wrapped in a stranger’s arms, willing to risk it all.

“You are doing well,” Wednesday managed to say, adjusting her pace as Enid slid beside her again. Her hand returned to Enid’s waist, deliberate, missing the moment it was gone. “I will stay.”

Enid smiled genuinely and devastatingly charming. “Thank you.”

In one swift movement, Wednesday swirled them so they were now face to face. She looked at Enid, cheeks pink from the cold, eyes bright and focused on her. She didn’t know why but she saw trust and a hint of something more in those ocean blues.

“Hey.” Enid said softly, smiling. Her gaze flicking to Wednesday’s lips.

“Hello.” Wednesday replied, breathless for reasons unrelated to skating, but more to Enid’s mesmerizing presence. She sucked in a breath when she realized Enid was closing the gap between them, their lips meeting halfway in a soft and tender kiss.

Enid pulled her in closer, tilting her head, allowing Wednesday to deepen the kiss and as the clock struck midnight they broke apart only to rest their foreheads together.

“Happy New Year.” Enid huffed out with a giggle.

Wednesday rolled her eyes in playful banter, “Happy New Year, Enid.”

Enid hadn’t expected this when she arrived to New York or even to this skating rink but she wouldn’t change this moment for the world. “Can I kiss you again?”

Wednesday nodded, wrapping her arms around Enid’s neck, nearly sending them both off balance.

This time their kiss was more passionate, and raw…the first of many kisses shared and Wednesday felt something settle in her chest, heavier than victory, sharper than pride. She didn’t need to win a bet. Not if winning meant leaving Enid behind, ever. Either way, it felt like she had won something far greater than she had originally intended.

If Thing was watching, he would understand, and if he didn’t, Wednesday no longer cared for anything or anyone but the clumsy girl in her arms.

The End
