Aizawa sighed softly, shaking his head. With his free hand, he reached out and ruffled his Problem Child’s hair. At his touch, Midoriya began shaking harder, large tears finally trailing down his face, and Aizawa found himself with no choice but to let his hands slide down Izuku's shoulders to tuck him into his side and away from the decimation and decay before them.
“Regardless of your abilities Midoriya, you’re still a kid. This never should’ve been your job in the first place.” He murmured through the child’s tears, though he knew his words alone probably wouldn’t do much good.
Eyeing the remains of the city and swallowing his doubt, Aizawa finished his thought with a quiet declaration.
“We’ll figure it out, we always do.”

Or, what could've happened had things not played out quite as well in the final war, leaving Aizawa to pick up the pieces of his class and maybe a few others too.
