Whoops! There goes the towns!

Notes:

Definitely a reference to “Please don’t tell my father that I used his 1996 Honda accord to destroy the town of willow grove, Pennsylvania in 2002” by pet symmetry.

Work Text:

The gang takes a trip and Fabian isn’t all too happy about it, but who cares! The girls deserve a break from the killer!
So now River is in Fabian’s house trying to get his car keys. Is it theft if Fabian is basically their father?
Avery says no, it is not theft.

Fabian doesn’t say anything about River being there. How could he? Everyone knew their home life, so River is everywhere but home.
River takes advantage of that.
River sneaks the car keys under the guise of ‘stealing’ food instead.
To Fabian, this is the most normal thing, why would he suspect anything?

River is quick and is out of the house under 5 minutes!
The rest of the girls are waiting by the car and so River goes to them. He quickly breaks the silence.
“So uh…who’s driving? Are we trading off?” He said as he looked at them.

Avery was quick to volunteer.
“I’ll do it! I’ll GLADLY do it!” The others gave her a look. “And uh…I’ll share with River if they please to!”
River nodded and tossed the keys to Avery.

“Where to gang?”
Avery asked, Elaine and Harmony shrugged, but River, River had that look in her eyes. Elaine figured this was all planned ahead of time. She’ll say it was plan B but they all knew whatever River was gonna do was always plan A.
Avery rolled her eyes and tossed the keys back to River. Giving the keys to Avery was an act of kindness, River was gonna take them back either way.
“Prayers to Fabian’s car, and fuck the police he’s under”
River states before sliding into the drivers seat, everyone following after.
The plus side of a cop on your side? No need for a fucking drivers license! Fabian would never let them stay over night in a jail cell!

River tossed their phone to Avery and sped off.
Seatbelts are only necessary if you plan to die.
They were not going to die.

The sign they sped past said “thank you for visiting Wakefield!”. They could not read it.
Thank you Avery and her smoking.
None of them said anything, and if River took a hit while driving no one made a comment.

They went to another town that was an hour away. Almost Madhill, but this town was way nicer. Richer.
River was creating smoke due to their driving, no one said anything.
Harmony wondered how many laws they broke so far and how many are left.
Even if harmony was ‘lawful’, she was no better than the rest of them.
River finally decided to put down all the windows, not because of the smoke, but to blast their music down the streets.

People looked at them like they were mad.
Maybe they were.

River took one hand off the wheel and took something out of his pocket. The car wobbled but he quickly balanced out the car again.
River yelled over the music.
“AVERY!”
And Avery looked over. She always did.
River shove something into their hands and Avery quickly threw it out of the car.
Elaine looked back and saw blue smoke following them.
She groaned and covered her face.
There goes the peace of the town.

River finally pulled over. As soon as they opened the door the rest of the smoke spilled out.
“Ah that was great!”
River exclaimed, Avery shared the same sentiment.
Harmony laughed but shook her head.
Many of the towns people went inside their homes already.
Elaine being the brains, figured the cops would be called soon. She’s making River explain this oh so fantastic plan.

The girls walked around. Parts of the sidewalk was ruined by rivers wonderful driving. Harmony relaxed more and started throwing pebbles and rocks around. Some glass broke, some animals shook from the loud teens.
Soon enough Elaine joined in.
Even she had to admit, this was a good break from trying to catch the Polaroid Killer.
It was fun.

Back with Fabian, he was getting calls about the girls in the town.
Fabian couldn’t believe it, for goodness sakes none of them can legally drive!
He looked around for his keys before stepping out and seeing his car missing.
Goddamn it river.
The cops from the town over considered the girls “violent” and “reckless”.
Fabian knew they could be reckless but violent?
What the hell are they doing.

The girls were definitely not privileged in anyway, they just want something to do to district themselves but this?
Fabian couldn’t believe it.
Fabian couldn’t go get them so he waited.

When returning Avery drove back. River was no longer fit to drive. Never was, but definitely not now.
None of them thought about the broken laws, they had a new found privilege since Fabian wouldn’t let them serve a sentence.
It was nearing the early morning, 3am.
Of course it was, they were never ready to leave.
By the time Avery pulled into Fabian’s driveway, the other girls were asleep. That’ll be hell of a hangover to explain.

Avery opened the door and saw Fabian sitting there.
He stared at her.
“Avery, young lady, where were you on this fine night?”
Fabian asked mockingly. Avery knew he already knew.
He always knew.

Instead of answering, she said something else.
“They fell asleep. I’m not waking them up so…you have fun with that, dad”
Avery muttered and went upstairs to Fabian’s guest room. She’ll go back home tomorrow.
Fabian sighed and went to the car.
He opened the door. He coughed violently.
What the fuck did they do to his car!?
Fabian powered through the smell of smoke and the awful smell of lingering alcohol that wasn’t cleaned up. And if there was the slight spell of vomit, he didn’t think about it.

The girls woke up late that morning, none of them made the effort to move that morning.
It was an odd feeling.
Wanting to die to instead of feeling the pounding head ache, but also all the girls waking up together was the most natural thing ever, like they do it everyday.
None of them moved.
If harmony went back to sleep, none of them said anything.
When River went back to sleep, there was more shocked faces, but they let the two sleep.
They laid there for hours.
Fabian knew the two were awake but made no effort to get them to come downstairs.
It was a quiet day. It was the most natural day ever.
