Denki woke up with the feeling he was being stared at. Watched so closely and intensely that it managed to manifest itself into the wonderful dream he was having.
He'd tell you what it was if he could even remember it. The moment he came face to face with Katsuki, he let out a startled noise, scrambling to sit upright, his hand held to his chest in an attempt to calm his racing heart, while the other rubbed away the sleep from his eyes. "Katsuki! What the fuck, dude!?"
"We… haven't kissed once since we started dating…" came the reply, so casual and laid back like he just hadn't scared the ever-loving fuck out of the smaller blonde.
Denki groaned short and blinked at him owlishly through parted fingers. The words that Katsuki spoke were going into one ear… and coming right back out the other, none of that made sense to him. He blamed the rude awakening he just had.
"What? Where'd that even… I am so confused right now."
Katsuki huffed, turning his head to try and hide the rising colour on his cheeks, crossing his arms and suddenly refusing to talk. The whole thing had been stupid anyway. He'd woken up from one hell of a good dream: he was on a date with Denki, and things had advanced quickly. One thing led to another, and they had one hot make-out session. Only afterwards did the realisation dawn upon him, resulting in him waking up and sulking as he shifted closer to Denki to stare at him as he slept.
After years of pining after each other, they'd finally found the courage to say something about their feelings and do something about it. At this point, it had been almost a year since they'd been together and not once had they initiated a kiss with each other.
Katsuki was starting to wonder if that was a normal thing with some couples or if Denki just really didn't want to kiss him for some reason.
Denki briefly eyed Katsuki before shuffling over to him and placing his chin on his shoulder, looking up at him.
"Does it bother you that we haven't kissed yet?"
"No!"
"Are you sure about that?" Denki taunted, teasingly.
"Shut up, Sparky!"
"Awe, babe~ you coulda just y'know, sa-"
Denki found himself unceremoniously pushed over to his side of the bed.
"You are insufferable at times…"
"Katsukiiiii babe~ my darling bombshell hero… love of my life…" Denki sing-songed as he crawled his way back over to his boyfriend.
The boyfriend in question was currently pinching the bridge of his nose like it'd give him just that bit more sanity to deal with Denki's shenanigans this early. He did this to himself. Katsuki looked down with a grumble as Denki crawled into his lap, shifting about to sit upright with his legs bent on either side of Katsuki's and arms looped over the back of his shoulders.
"…I'm going to blast you…"
"With those lips or…?"
"Fucking hell, Denki…"
"Listen," Denki started, grinning as he playfully poked Katsuki on the cheek. "You, woke me up, remember? You're the one who brought up the fact we haven't kissed yet, assuming you mean on the lips, because I give you kisses all the time, right here. If you deny it, then I'm gonna have to ask one of our favourite girlies for some bright coloured lipstick."
Oh, for the love of fuck, what had he done?
He knew fine well that Denki would ask for the brightest colour of lipstick he could get his hands on… and totally would ask Momo if she would kindly make one if he couldn't find one first.
"Oi… you don't need to do that…"
"You just don't want me to leave my mark on you, Kacchan~"
"Denki, I swear…"
"You do that quite a lot~"
Katsuki groaned. He was absolutely positive that Denki's jokes and innuendos combined were often worse than dad jokes. He distracted himself by looking at the clock, sighing lightly as it read 7 am.
"Anyway," Denki started a minute after, taking a moment to stretch his arms out. "Since I'm awake now, shall we go get breakfast and then you can open the gifts you have~?"
Oh… that's right, it's Christmas morning. Fuck. There was something he had to do that morning, and it was going to be the most important thing of his life.
It also meant keeping Denki distracted long enough so he could set things up, and that in itself would be challenging. Everyone knew that the hyperactive ball of sunshine could be too curious for his own good at times. There'd been many a time before when he discovered the plans for his own surprise birthday bashes and had to keep it under wraps until the day arrived… he'd only ever told Katsuki about those times.
"Mm, yeah… You go get started on breakfast, and I'll come down in a moment?" Katsuki suggested as he allowed himself to flop back onto the bed, now that Denki had finally got off of him and busied himself with what to wear today.
"Sure! Just don't take forever, alright? I need to be able to wake up Eijirou and the others with a phone call!" Denki grinned as he made his way to the bathroom.
Katsuki watched him leave, giving a sound of acknowledgement before he got up and looked for the item he needed, and was thankful that Denki wasn't the type to go snooping around in his drawers, even if he was just putting laundry away.
Finding the item, he'd pull it out and keep it hidden in his pyjama pocket for now.
Katsuki had finally got himself ready. Denki had been downstairs for around 30 minutes now. He was silently cursing himself in his head, not feeling all that confident all of a sudden even though he'd been planning and practising this over the last few weeks!
Was this really the time to be bringing this up?
What if it backfired and Denki hated it?
worst-case scenario, Denki would end everything right there and leave.
Usually, he was confident as all hell, cockily so, even!
Maybe it was the reality of what he was about to do. There was no turning back now unless he wanted his friends hounding him to no end for chickening out at the last second.
The moment he heard Denki call on him to let him know breakfast was ready, he knew he had to go through with it otherwise, it'd be another few years or longer before he'd find the courage to do this again.
He took a deep breath in hopes it'd calm his nerves more before heading downstairs.
"Thought some pancakes would be awesome to have!" Denki announced, hearing Katsuki come down and into the room.
"Yeah? Sounds good, your pancakes are way better than mine are."
"Did I just get complimented for my cooking, Kacchan?"
"…Shut up…"
"Never! Just wait until I tell the others!"
"I'll deny it…"
"They know I wouldn't make shit up and they can see past your bullshit, babe~"
Katsuki merely rolled his eyes. Of course, they would. He eyed the pancakes on the plate as they were set down in front of him, at least this gave him a little more time to go over his speech in his head.
They finished breakfast within twenty minutes or so, neither of them in a rush to get anything done just yet, despite the nerves overwhelming Katsuki and the excitement of opening presents taking Denki over.
As Denki got up to pick up his first gift, Katsuki spoke up. He wanted the first gift to be the best, and damn it, he was going to make that happen!
"Denki… wait,"
"Huh?" Denki looked over his shoulder, grow raised in confusion. "What? Why wait?"
"There's uh, something I was wanting to give you fi-"
"Dude, it better not be divorce papers before we're even married… and there's no returns allowed."
Katsuki sighed and stared at the grinning gremlin (Imagine, Denki stealing his title) sat across from him, squinting for a moment. "Can you not…"
Denki's smug, teasing grin quickly turned sheepish and apologetic. "Sorry, Kacchan… go ahead, I'm listening!"
A playful, judging hum slipped from Katsuki's throat before he moved to feel about his pockets before getting up to shift closer and get down on one knee, pulling the box out and opening it to reveal a ring.
By design, it was kept simple, in a way that also seemed like… them. Katsuki had gone for the one that Denki had seemed most interested in, a titanium damascus with black zirconium mokume gane ring with a yellow gold liner. Denki's eyes lit up, looking from the ring to Katsuki, that familiar sensation of butterflies just going off like fireworks inside his stomach.
"So… I know I'm not… great at this whole feelings thing, or the speech thing…" Katsuki trailed off, proving a point, though he couldn't help but let his lips tug into a brief smile as he heard Denki giggle at him. "So, I'll make it short and sweet… we've been pining for each other to the point our friends were going to kick our asses… and well, I know we've only been dating properly for a year now, a little more… but, I have no plans on parting with you and no plans on letting you slip from me again… and if I leave it any longer it'll be another millenia before I get around to this…"
Katsuki hated that he'd gone off track of what he had actually wanted to say and was now winging it.
"So… Denki, will you marry me?"
The moment Denki heard Katsuki utter those words, he darted the short distance over to him, more or less pouncing with newfound excitement, toppling Katsuki over and hugging him tightly while repeatedly uttering the most obvious reply. "Yes!"
The explosive hero hugged him back, relieved that all of his nervous energy had been for nothing
Denki gave a happy sound, which sounded suspiciously like a sob before laughing lightly, grinning like the luckiest guy ever. Katsuki shifted until they were both sitting up a little bit, his back plush against the edge of the sofa.
The electric hero sat up a bit more, cupping Katsuki's cheeks with both of his hands so he could pepper his face with small kisses.
Denki wondered if going that little bit further was considered too cheesy or if it was the right timing, given the situation. Fuck it, it was definitely the right thing to do.
He leaned back from peppering Katsuki with affection, their gazes meeting and lingering for a moment as a comfortable silence cascaded over them.
Denki leaned in again, resting his forehead against Katsuki's for a moment, hearing Katsuki's breath hitch briefly from the soft touch. He could feel Katsuki's hands shifting about on his jumper before they grasped at the front as if asking for something more than the light, feather kisses he'd just placed over his cheeks and forehead.
The light breaking through the blinds caught them both just right, making it feel that little bit more special to them. Denki broke the held gaze first and glanced down at Katsuki's lips before tilting his head to initiate their first, proper kiss.
It was more than evident that Denki was definitely the bolder one of the two, he had way more experience with this.
Katsuki followed his lead, leaning his head in just slightly to meet Denki's lips, surprised that they felt softer like this compared to feeling them against his cheek. He let his hands fist into the jumper a bit more, gently tugging him closer as he felt his heart suddenly race and his whole body felt warmer.
The kiss itself was slow, soft to begin with, spending a good moment or two just experiencing and enjoying it, and any nervousness that had been building up was now slowly disappearing into nothingness.
Denki's hands found their way into Katsuki's hair, soft sighs and sharp inhales slipped from them as their kiss turned a little messier yet passionate to the point that it felt heated and electrifying, leaving each other dizzy and wanting much more.
By the end of the kiss, they were both panting, faces tinted with colour, and their gazes locked onto each other once again. It lasted for only a minute or two, but felt like an eternity. That should have been way earlier if you were to ask Katsuki.
Denki sat up a little straighter, offering that trademark grin with a hint of smugness as he looked Katsuki over. "Well? How was that for a first kiss?"
Katsuki chuckled, rolling his eyes fondly before shaking his head and leaning back on the edge of the sofa again. His lips were still tingling, and he still felt a little dazed from it. "It was… amazing, just like you."
"Look at you buttering me up with compliments…" Denki mused, shifting about and letting his forehead rest against Katsuki's again. "Worth the wait?"
"Definitely worth the wait," Katsuki replied, noticing that grin on Denki's face getting wider, as if he was about to start spouting things in the moment. He was quick to put a stop to it this time, too, by lifting a hand to place his index finger against his lips, musing at him with a small grin of his own. "Also, if you hold out on me like that again, I get to kick your ass."
Denki hummed, thinking about it for a moment, shrugging a shoulder as he drew his head back slightly.
"I promise I won't hold out like that again~"
Katsuki seemed happy with the response as he leaned in this time, pulling Denki in by the jumper to kiss him again. He'd had a taste of an amazing first kiss, and now he was forever addicted.
