An Unexpected Meeting on the Sea Shore

Summary:

Legolas, Elladan, and Elrohir have a rather unexpected meeting on the seashore, and find themselves traveling to a series of places before finally leaving for Valinor.

Notes:

Atar means Father in elvish.

Work Text:

Elladan and Elrohir sat together near the edge of the sea.

“What happened…” said Elladan in a whisper. “Sauron’s…gone…the thing that hurt Atar so badly, broke Amme, killed Arathorn, hurt…everyone is gone. Arwen… She's mortal now…”
Elladan leaned on his brother and let out a sob. He shouldn't be crying… Sauron is gone. Sauron was gone! This was good news, wasn’t it? It was… but so much more had happened. Their little sister… She had no hope of seeing them in the Blessed Realm. Not many of their friends did. And Frodo… completed his mission but was brutally traumatized. He had become good friends with the Hobbit when they spoke in Rivendell. How changed he was… how changed everyone was. Even Legolas, like a sibling to the two, was changed. In good ways and bad ways, all of them. Gimli seemed the same, cheery, always looking for the bright side.

Atar himself said Gimli’s optimistic side reminded him of Ereinion. Atar called him his best friend, and he had dreamed of meeting the former High King in the Blessed Realm. ‘His hair braided with gold-ribbons, like his father before him.’. That was all his Atar could get without shedding tears. This land was full of them.

Sauron was gone, but it didn’t seem to make much of a difference. Not to those who had lived under the pain and misery of his reign. His darkness. Elrohir somehow read his brother's thoughts, and though he himself was crushed in confusion, comforted his brother, trying not to cry in grief for his sister, trying not to be taken over by emotions eating him from the inside. He hugged his twin. “Legolas should be here soon… he said he was delayed; Atar needed to tell him something.” Elladan nodded eagerly. The three were like siblings. Best friends. They accompanied rangers and did all sorts of things together. Their friendship was an unbreakable bond.

Legolas still had things to do in Middle Earth, and the twins weren’t quite ready to leave. They would roam in Ithilien, the new realm Legolas had established, and help rebuild the White City. Elrohir heard footsteps. “Do you fare well my friends?” Legolas came, finally. He spoke in a quiet, grievous tone of voice as the other two did. “I’m fine” he choked out. “I think Elladan could say differently though.” Legolas’ eyes turned to Elrohir's crying twin. He sat next to Elrohir, and tried to help hold Elrohir together. Somehow they all knew what was in each other's hearts. Legolas was more cheerful, was more of an anxious manager to keep the twins from danger, and sometimes when Legolas and Elrohir were in especially bad moods, poor Elladan would be left to manage them.

Legolas finally broke the silence. “From what I am seeing, I am not the only one unable to process all the recent occurrences…” Elrohir nodded, agreeing with his friend’s statement. “Sauron’s gone, Atar in Valinor, Amme broke, your Amme and your Atar broke, one by torture the other by grief, Boromir is dead, Frodo is in Valinor because he couldn’t be home in comfort. For those unborn in Middle Earth, bliss awaits them in life, but for those who lived under the cruel rule and torture that Sauron gave to those who were not even in his captivity will never fade. I fear nobody who has lived will ever be the same again. I wish that Sauron dying would destroy all the pain somehow, but it won’t…” Legolas hugged Elrohir, trying to comfort him. Elrohir’s voice had been choking, trying not to sob in the last sentences he spoke. The three knew they needed each other. Difficult times were over, but the pain still remained.

Legolas got closer to the shore. The others followed. “Is it only me who has sea-longing?” Elrohir sighed. “Everyone who sees the shore, or in your case hears the cry of a gull has it. It’s not fair, Lady Galadriel simply set your doom in front of you.” The waves wet the three. “When Arwen and Estel die… what will become of us then?” Legolas sighed. “We must try not to succumb to the grief, and build a ship to the Havens. Take Sam with us. He technically held the ring.” Elladan smiled slightly. “Hobbits. Remarkable creatures. I think they would have done a better job of destroying Morgoth than the Valar themselves.” The other two chuckled.

“Do any of you feel like you’re being watched…” whispered Legolas in a hushed tone, so that only his friends could hear it. “Don’t be so paranoid.” snapped Elladan. “You’ve spent too much time in creepy environments like the caves of the Dead.” “You were there too!” answered Legolas. Elrohir sighed. “I wish we could be here forever, in peace. Undisturbed and just us.” “Doesn’t everyone wish that?” responded Legolas.

They heard a voice right behind them that left the three frozen. They didn’t recognize it, they didn’t know what they heard. All they knew is that they heard someone. “Who are you?” It simply said, in a slightly hostile but not a killer tone. Legolas spoke in Quenya to Elrohir. “Forgive me for supposing the sea would be safe. Accursed things have happened here, and now a slightly unfriendly voice speaks.” Elrohir nodded quickly.

“I can hear you speak.” He did not speak in Quenya. The man' s tone sounded puzzled, annoyed, and ever so slightly fearful. “You three, come with me. Do not speak, do not try to draw a sword, I will kill you.” Without a word, the three followed the elf. They could now see he was of the Eldar. He had a rather dignified look on his face, but his hair was not compatible with it. Dark and messy.

Next thing they knew, the boys were tied to a few rocks. Legolas next to Elrohir, and Elrohir in the center. Elrohir leaned on Legolas, feeling comforted that he was close to his friend. Maybe Legolas was so comforting to him because he was taller. He never knew.

The Elf returned, and began to cook some fish on a fire. Legolas, unsurprisingly, was the first to break the silence. “Do you want to ask us anything, or do you plan on keeping us tied to this pillar till the end of all eternity.” Elrohir gave his friend a glare. He could not believe how reckless he could be sometimes! So annoying.

“Well, let’s start with your names.” the Elf sighed.

Legolas glanced at the twins. They nodded in approval. “I am Legolas Greenleaf, and these are my friends, and I do not hesitate to call them brothers Elladan and Elrohir.” The Elf looked at the three. “You are Princes, I assume?” The Elf’s saw as the eyes of the three widened in surprise.

“Yes… yes how did you… know that?” answered Legolas. “I assumed.” answered the elf. “The way you carry yourselves, not to mention you all have a circlet on your head.” Legolas and the twins couldn’t help but chuckle at the stupidness of Legolas’ question. “Maybe we are just a little paranoid right now because a stranger has us tied to a boulder…” the Elf chuckled. “I suppose so. Where are you all from?” Elrohir answered this time, after Legolas nodded at him. “Maybe we’ll answer you if you untie us from this unbelievably uncomfortable boulder.” “We’ve had worse though…” said Legolas. “Yes, true, very true.” answered Elrohir. “From this unbelievably ridiculous excuse for a rock? Alright whatever one wants to call it, can you just untie us?”

The Elf laughed. “You all remind me of you and my siblings when we were young. Fine, I’ll untie you, but no running, no threatening, and no killing.” Legolas nodded, as did the twins. After they were untied, The Elf sat down and sighed. “So, answer my question.” Elrohir answered. “My friend here, Legolas, or as we like to make fun of him Leggy…” he glanced at Legolas, waiting for a glare, which to his satisfaction, he received. “He is from Mirkwood, once called Greenwood. He is prince of the Woodland Realm, son of King Thranduil.” Legolas interrupted. “My Atar, whom I both love and hate for reasons plausible by your standards, is very snotty. He hates the Noldor, even though my mother was one. I don’t, my best friends are Noldo, but as for my father… just warning you.” The Elf nodded. “Me and my twin brother, Elrohir, are from Imladris, also called Rivendell, ruled by Lord Elrond. I am its prince, and Atar is its Lord. My little sister, Arwen, married a man and is living in the White City. Atar is on a ship to the Grey Havens.” Legolas continued. “Now that Sauron is destroyed, we are left to help fix the world after quite a bit of damage to our hearts and to the land. That includes fixing the White City that suffered assault from Sauron during the Battle of Pelenor fields, and establishing a new elven realm in Ithilien with Elladan and Elrohir. Celeborn is sticking around in Middle Earth for a bit more, while Lady Galadriel, my Grandmother, goes with Atar and Cirdan to the Havens, with Mithrandir, Bilbo, and Frodo Baggins.” Elladan finally spoke. “Sauron’s gone…who could believe that…” Legolas sighed. “I agree, but the damage he has caused is irreversible.”

The Elf’s eyes widened. “Sauron?! Gone?! Really?!” Legolas nodded slowly with a confused look on his face. “You did not feel the blast? How long have you been living here? And may I braid your hair? I can’t help but think how messy it looks.” The Elf still looked shocked. “Alright you can braid it. I felt a tremor. I didn’t know what it was.” Legolas and the twins looked at each other, while Legolas braided the Elf’s hair carefully. “I guess it was harder for you to feel it. For us, it was a blast. We were there! His tower exploded! The Valar practically swallowed him up, and we heard his cry. It was incredible, but terrifying. The eagles saved Frodo and Sam, the ones who destroyed him. With the volcano exploding and all, they barely survived.” Legolas used his knife to cut some of the Elf’s hair. It was long and damaged, and he was trying to make it look nice.

The Elf spoke. “Well, I might as well tell you who I am. I’m shocked you haven’t already guessed… I’ve been here since the War of Wrath, after my brother ended himself. Cast my Silmaril into the sea. I am Kanafinwe, Makalaure, or if you want to go to the Sindarin version of my name, Maglor. That is how I understood your Quenya.” Elrohir’s eyes widened. “Kanafinwe?! My Atar spoke often about you and your brother… he hated seeing you in pain, you know? He liked you very much.” Maglor’s eyes widened again. “He spoke of me? I find that shocking… I took him from his parents… killed his people… me and my brother… We're murderers, and somehow he spoke of it with love. I don’t deserve that at all…” Elrohir sighed. “How about you come with us, help with Ithilien, and do enough good to earn your way back to the Grey Havens? Go back to Tirion? You wouldn’t mind that, would you? You and Nelyafinwe are the only two of you who actually showed pain and regret for what you did. You’re the only ones who tried to resist the Oath.”

Maglor sighed. “I do have sea longing… I can seek pardon amongst the Valar, help rebuild the world… I guess that would help…” “Done.” Legolas said quietly after he finished the braid. Maglor touched it and said. “I committed three… three kinslayings… and somehow… you still want joy for me. I find that shocking.” Legolas sighed. “Well, think about it. Three elves wouldn’t show up by the sea shore exactly where you are by coincidence, would they? Maybe the Valar wanted us to come…”. Maglor sighed. “You young elves, always optimistic. Alright, you can take me to Ithilien.” Elladan smiled brightly. “Let’s go find our horses. You can ride with Legolas. I won’t have anyone on my horse other than me.” Legolas sighed and chuckled. “Alright, but don’t get into any trouble. Keep an eye on your brother, Elrohir.” Elladan sighed. “Why are you always siding with Elrohir over me? Favoritism!” Legolas laughed. “Maybe Elrohir acts more maturely than you sometimes.” “He’s my twin!!!” “Yes, you were delayed somewhere in the back. Get on the horse.” Elladan huffed, and Maglor laughed. “He reminds me of Ambarrusar and Tyelkormo arguing with Maitimo about why he always sided with Finno.” Elrohir laughed, and mounted his horse.Legolas said “Let us ride to the White City. Ithilien is still being built, but I want to check on Aragorn and Gimli.”

“I’d love to see how Middle Earth has changed. The sea can get dry… I got seasick a lot.” Three laughed. Legolas gave the horse a command in Quenya, and then began the ride.

“I haven’t galloped in a while. My back is sore.” said Maglor. It was now nearly nighttime. “Were are we?” Legolas looked around. “The Old Forest. One has to be very careful here, my friend. This place has trees. Angry trees. The Ents will manage them eventually, like the elves once could, but until then, one has to be careful. Sauron’s damage may be irreversible in some places.” Maglor nodded. “So it wasn’t just me who heard the tree growl.” “Nope.” answered Legolas. They rode on quietly, until they reached The Inn of the Prancing Pony. “Let’s rent a room here. Keep quiet, all of you, put on your cloaks. There’s still those hostile maniacs who want to serve Sauron, and will murder elves like us any chance they get…”

The Next day
“Good morning! Rise and shine!” said Elladan in a cheery voice, with a cheeky grin. “Well aren’t you in a good mood…” mumbled Legolas as he pulled the sheets over his head. “You got the comfy bed. I had to sleep in between two people, and one hasn’t showered in two ages. You managed to get the singular bed.” Elrohir mumbled. “It’s not a good morning. It’s raining.” Maglor grumbled. “What’s-his-name understands life better. No wonder Legolas sides with you over him.” Elladan’s smile did not shrink. “Ah, you three grumps got to get out of bed! Enjoy the sunshine! It’s an incredible day to be alive!” Legolas moaned.Elrohir asked “When did you become so happy, brother of mine? It’s not even sunny…” Elladan kept his grin and said, “I slept well! For once! Nobody woke up screaming, we didn’t hear a ‘We’re under attack!’ horn, and nobody murdered us!”. Elrohir moaned this time, and Legolas spoke. “Ugh! I woke up screaming, and Maglor woke up screaming. How did you not hear us?!” Elladan shushed. “One doesn’t want to wake the murderers.” Elrohir and Legolas looked at each other confused. “Has he gone crazy?” asked Legolas. “No,” said Maglor. “I think he had a few too many pints.”

The three laughed, and Elladan shushed them. Legolas took the three to the stand. “Butterbur, could we have some hangover help?” Butterbur smiled. “Lad, maybe have less beers next time, eh?” Elladan laughed. “I got that quite clear.” Legolas handed over some coin and said, “Can we get a horse? We’re going to the White City, and our friend here needs a horse. Get him a good shower, too. He smells.” Maglor glared, but nodded.

Half an hour later

“Alrighty, are we all set? I see you got yourself some new armor, Makalaure.” said Legolas. “Yes I did. It’s a lot more comfortable. My sword is sharpened, too.” he answered. “One last thing.” Legolas pulled a bandage out of his bag. “Here, wrap your hands with these. Burns by magic gems aren’t a joke. This will keep them from hurting as much.” Maglor looked kindly at Legolas, and smiled in gratitude, and wrapped his hands. They rode for the next day, and stopped at noon. “I packed us some Lembas, here.” Legolas handed the twins some bread, and then to Maglor. “It’s been a long time since I have tasted this. One bite can fill you up, and fuel you for a good long while, am I correct?” Elrohir nodded with his mouth full, and mumbled out a few words. Maglor did not understand. Legolas, however, did. “He’s saying that Galadriel gave it to them, and came in very handy for Frodo and Sam on their journey to destroy the ring. It also came in handy during the various battles we fought, and the journeys from place to place.”

Maglor nodded. “Ring? Mordor? Frodo? Mainly, what’s the story behind the rings?” Legolas sighed. “Well, it all started when an elf named Annatar approached the gates of Lindon. Gil Galad and Galadiel refused to let him in. They knew who he was.” “Who was he?” interrupted Maglor. “Well…” he continued. “Since Annatar was rejected, he approached Eregion, claiming to be a master smith, but wanted training under the great Celebrimbor.” “Little Tyelpe?!” exclaimed Maglor. Legolas sighed. “Yes, you know him like that. I am glad to say he became a great smith, but his story is rather sad. Annatar helped him, and they became great friends. They eventually created the rings, 9 rings for the Mortal men, 7 for the Dwarf-Lords, and 3 for the Elves. Annatar launched his attack. Revealing himself as Sauron- ""Wait, it sounds like what Melkor did to Atar.” said Maglor. “Yes, it’s quite similar.” answered Legolas. “He destroyed Eregion, and took Celebrimbor captive. Sauron had the 9 and 7, but he didn’t have the three. The three were hidden away, and given to the elven lords. Sauron tortured Celebrimbor, and killed his family too. Eventually, he finished him off.” Maglor sighed. “No surprise… I miss little Tyelpe… how could Sauron hurt so many?!” Elrohir sighed. “Yes, but be glad he died. My mother didn’t… she was tortured, and we saved her. She wanted to die. She was let on a ship to the Havens to heal. Now Atar will be with her. Torture is no joke, and it hurts so many…” Maglor sighed, now trying not to shed tears. “No kidding… tell that to my dear brother Maitimo, who ended up…” he inhaled. “You don’t have to say it, Uncle Elrond has told us all about it, trying not to cry like you…” Legolas wrapped his arm around Maglor. Elrohir grasped his hand. Maglor sighed. “Thank you very much for your support. The two smiled. “Well,” said Legolas. “We had better get going… we make for the Gap of Rohan. Maybe stop by and see how Eomer is.” “Lots of stops,” said Maglor, chuckling. “I made friends during the quest. I was part of the fellowship. Lots of distrust from Rohan at first, but now we are friends. Maybe I’ll have a drinking contest or two with you, Elrohir.” Elrohir smiled joyfully.

Nighttime

The four elves arrived at Edoras. “Hello, my friends!” said Eomer. “I did not expect to see you again so quickly, Legolas Greenleaf! How do you do, and who is this stranger with you?” Legolas smiled. “Eomer! I am well, thank you. This is Makalaure, he recently joined us on our way to Ithilien. We have a travel plan. Right now, we are going to the White City. I wanted to stop by to see you.” “Ah! Welcome, Makalaure son of Feanor! How long have you four been riding?” asked Eomer. “Our horses are swifter without the presence of Sauron. A lot swifter. Three days, from the shores of the sea.” answered Legolas. Eomer’s eyes widened. “Sauron was treacherous, but is gone now. May Middle Earth live in peace for all eternity, until the Dagor Bragollach!”

Legolas smiled. “As you can see, Makalaure, everyone here is very friendly. I trust them very much. The men here have saved our lives not less than once.” Maglor smiled. “As I can see. A very cheery group, the lot of you. You have a future ahead of you!” Eomer smiled. “That we do! Joy to all those who have lived to see this glorious day!” Everybody in the room cheered in agreement. “Come friends! Let us eat!”

“I beat Gimli at this, Elrohir! Try and beat me, elf against elf!” The two began to drink, Eomer serving the cups. Maglor was laughing, and Elladan was talking to Faramir. Elrohir and Legolas kept drinking, but eventually, they passed out. Somehow, the two passed out at the same time, and Maglor was left to drag them to bed. “Stinky, drunk elves get this bed. I get my bed, and Elladan gets his.” Maglor murmured as he put the two under the covers on a bed.

Elrohir and Legolas woke up in the middle of the night, and unsurprisingly, they both had a headache. Legolas mumbled. “You took all the blankets.” The two couldn’t help but chuckle, and got closer together to keep from getting cold.
The next morning, Legolas and Elrohir got up first to find Maglor sleeping soundly, and Elladan on the floor. “How did we wake up first?” asked Legolas, who for some odd reason did not have a headache anymore. He was rubbing his head to see where it went. “Who knows, maybe we passed out and they drank some more before going to bed. The two looked at each other. “Be right back.” whispered Elrohir. He came back with one of the trumpets the soldiers sounded when the King was coming. A big smile lit up Legolas' face. “Go get another one. I’ll sound one in Laure’s ear and you can in Elladan’s.” Elrohir got another trumpet. “3…2…1…”... The trumpets blasted. Maglor gasped, Elladan screamed. “What in Arda was tha- trumpets! Out of all things!” said Maglor, trying to catch his breath. “What manner is this to wake someone up?!” said Elladan loudly. One would think he was slightly deafened. Legolas and Elrohir, on the other hand, were laughing maniacally.

Eomer walked in. “I heard the trumpets,” he laughed. “What mischief are you up to this ti- oh you did it again? Like you did to Gimli?” Eomer was wheezing in laughter. Maglor looked surprised, and Elladan looked shocked. “Can we go now?” growled Elladan. Legolas and Elrohir chuckled a little, and exited the room. Maglor got up and went to eat his breakfast. He took a bite of the raspberries, and he realized he now had time to think ever since he was taken away from the shore. How did it happen? How did he go from eating nothing but fish (cooked fish, of course) to eating Lembas Bread and delicious berries with three elven princes who happened to be the children of his foster-son, and the taller blonde one happened to call Elrond an ‘Uncle’. Clearly, they were all very close to Elrond. He remembered his brother’s fate, he remembered everything horrible that had happened in the first age… he remembered seeing his brother return from torture on Thangorodrim… he remembered seeing Tyelormo’s neck split open, his hair marred in blood, next to the bodies of Curvo and Moryo, Moryo mortally wounded and drowning in his brother’s blood, and Curvo impaled with Dior’s sword. He remembered seeing Dior laying there, dead and mangled. He remembered lifting Moryo up from Tyelko’s blood, to make his death even a little less agonizing. He remembered the blood and tears after the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. His mind traveled back to the Havens, to Feanor, Nerdanel, to Finwe and to his uncle Nolofinwe. He missed them. He wanted his brother. He wanted everyone back. His mind ventured over to the present again, seeing how his foster-son had raised such beautiful children who reminded him of his own siblings, and how Legolas acted like a Finno or Maitimo towards them. He had felt joy for the first time in what felt like an eternity, and he thought that maybe, just maybe, he could return to the Grey Havens, and be with his mother and siblings again, to be joyful. Just maybe…

Legolas sat down next to Maglor, and for a while, they were quiet, Legolas’ mind swirling around dark memories of the past, before Sauron was destroyed, when his father broke after his mother’s death, and how he used to ride to Rivendell for comfort. He viewed Elrond more of a father than anyone. He was kinder, and different. Then, Legolas stopped. His mind shouldn’t be venturing to the pains of the past, not when he has a bright future ahead of him. “Kanafinwe,” he asked. Maglor snapped out of his thoughts. “Yes? Are you well?” “Yes, I’m fine.” Legolas chuckled. “I wanted to ask… with your brother… how… How did he manage to survive? He was tortured… for longer then Amme was, for longer then Aunt Celebrian was, and I’d imagine in far worse a way… So how did he survive? How did his fea not fade?” Maglor sighed. “That is a question I cannot answer. My brother was strong, and resilient. He didn’t have much of an option, either. But how he did not just die, I would view it impossible. Even I don’t understand it. He was such a wonderful brother… how I miss him…” Legolas sighed. “I’m sorry that happened. From what Uncle Elrond said about you two, I’ve always wanted to meet you. You and your brother. You sounded so kind. I can see now that what he said was an understatement.” he laughed. “You are very good. I dislike how my father described the Noldor. Atar is very… snooty. He is obsessed with his gems, hates the dwarves because they took his gems, and seems to want the Arkenstone, although he would never admit it. He nearly got himself killed, trying to go against them. As Mithrandir said to him, ‘You would go to war over a handful of gems?!’. Turns out he would, and there he goes, complaining about the Noldor’s stupidness, when he was acting the same! In fact, this whole war! Everything was about gems and jewelry! Rings and gems! By now, one should have learned never to trust jewelry!". Maglor’s eyes widened. “Well, now I know we weren’t the main root of chaos. Even after I was gone, the wars continued. Your father sounds like King Thingol. Very snooty elf, too protective. He was actually killed by dwarves for the same reason!” Legolas laughed. “Elrond often compares him to Thingol, actually.” Maglor smiled. “Let’s get going!” exclaimed Elrohir, from a distance. They both turned their eyes to the Elven Prince, and rose from their seats.

The four said their goodbyes, and rode for Minas Tirith immediately. “We will be riding by Ithilien, but it is a work in progress.” Legolas laughed. They rode swiftly, and came to a stop. There, on the horizon, lay the White City. “Minas Tirith.” whispered Elrohir. “Minas Tirith? Orodreth owned that place onc-""Not the same one, but I suppose it might have been named after the tower of Minas Tirith.” interrupted Elladan. Maglor smiled. “It truly is beautiful…” “Isn’t it? The city will be even more beautiful once repaired. Let us ride!” said Legolas.

Within a short amount of time, they were at the gates. The guards opened the Gates, and the elves rode in. The first person they saw was Aragorn. The four dismounted. “Legolas! Elladan! Elrohir! It has only been some time, yet feels like an eternity!” Legolas was greeted with a warm hug from Aragorn, and Gimli later joined it. “Aghhhh more elves. When can you stop bringing them! They don’t seem to like me all that much, you know.” Maglor laughed. “And this one is laughing at me! The mockery! Disrespect! You’re fortunate I’m friends with these two, otherwise you’d have an axe in your groin!” Maglor laughed again. “Legolas, I see why you are friends with this dwarf. He truly does humor one.” Gimli grumbled. Legolas laughed. Elladan rolled his eyes with a smile while Elrohir grinned in the most pleasant way. “This is our friend, Makalaure, or Kanafinwe. It’s a long story.” “Right it is!” Gimli popped in, not to anyone’s surprise. “Maglor’s been dead for two ages! Why do elves never die?” “Being as old as I am, Dwarf, I often ask myself that question.” “Gimli! My name is Gimli! Call me by the name and have some respect! I’m a dwarf lord now! I’m helping with this city!” Maglor grinned at the Dwarf, then turned to Aragorn. Maglor bowed his head. “Good day! You are most welcome in Minas Tirith! A friend of Legolas’ is a friend of mine! Any friend of Elladan and Elrohir is my friend! Shall we go eat? Thranduil is here, Legolas. He begrudgingly came, after Elrond convinced him before he left for Valinor.”

Legolas rolled his eyes. “Knowing him, he’s going to pick a fight with the dwarves and with Makalaure. Don’t mind him Kano.” Maglor laughed. “I’ll try not to.” Elrohir smiled. “That will be harder than you think…” Legolas’ eyes widened and nodded, a face that showed full agreement with his friend's statement. The group went to the palace, where Arwen was at the time. “Brothers!” her eyes were wide, not expecting to see them. “How are you? I did not expect to see you here!” Elladan smiled kindly. “Hello sister…” he said quietly. Elrohir and Legolas were smiling, but trying to hold back tears. It had been the first time the twins had seen Arwen since she gave up her immortality. The twins embraced their sister, and Legolas joined in. Aragorn smiled, standing next to Maglor. “She’s my wife.” he said, with pride in his voice. Maglor smiled. “She seems like a good spouse for you. Reminds me of Beren and Luthien, without Huan and the interference of my siblings Tyelko and Curvo.” Aragorn chuckled. Legolas sighed and said, “How do you do sister? It feels like it has been a while since your marriage to Estel, since I last saw you and him, for some odd reason.” He chuckled. Arwen smiled. “I couldn’t agree more.” added Elrohir.

Legolas backed up, and stood next to Maglor. He missed Elrond, and Maglor reminded him the most of his Uncle (symbolic, if I must add). Then Thranduil walked in. Legolas sighed, and Elrohir facepalmed. Maglor looked at Legolas, in a look that almost sounded like ‘You were right about snooty. He doesn’t have to say it!’. “Hello Atar…” Legolas sighed. “Hello,” replied Thranduil. His eyes immediately turned to Maglor, and Thranduil recognized him, but did not tell anyone yet. “What… mischief have you three been up to. You’re always doing something. And who is this poor excuse for an Elf here?” Maglor’s eyes widened. Legolas grabbed Maglor’s arm strongly. “I told you it was harder than it sounded.”he murmured quietly to Maglor. Thranduil sighed. “I recognize you, Makalaure, son of Feanor. I was but a boy when your people attacked Doriath. I remember it as if it were yesterday.” Maglor inhaled quickly, almost like a quiet gasp. “It was beyond my control… I tried to keep from doing that deed…” Thranduil sighed. “That is why I hate you Noldor… always killing… always doing something. And your ridiculous obsession with gems-” Legolas then stepped in. “Now listen he-” “You were clear about your hate of my deeds towards the dwarves, Legolas. Keep it quiet, will you?” Legolas huffed. “I am speaking as one King to another, Oh Thranduil.” said Aragorn. “Forgive me if I am incorrect Legolas, but I believe you were attempting to say the whole reason you killed the dwarves… was because of a handful of gems. You aren’t in much of a place to judge, my friend.” Thranduil scoffed. “You associate yourself too much with the Noldor and the mortals, Legolas. You should have stayed confined from others in the forest. It would have helped.” answered Thranduil, ignoring Aragorn’s comment.

“His face is empty of emotion and love, and his words are cold as ice. I wouldn’t believe Legolas was your son if it was only you who told me.” These words came from Gimli. Nobody noticed he had been there until he spoke up. Thranduil’s eyes widened, and he clenched his fists and jaw. He put his chin up, and proceeded to say “Do not speak to me… Dwarf.” “His name is Gimli, if you don’t mind me saying so Atar. He is more loyal to me than you are, at this point.” Maglor said this next, agreeing with Gimli: “Gimli has a point. Legolas acts more like Elrond than he does you. It would be hard to believe he was your son. Even his appearance is different.” Thranduil scoffed in anger. Elrohir smiled. “I would slice your heads off, Noldor and Dwarf, if it were considered moral to do here.” said Thranduil. “Now look here-” said Aragorn. “Silen-” “Now look here! This is Minas Tirith. It is my city! I am its king! You have no authority here! I will not allow you to disrespect my friends! Leave this room!” Thranduil’s eyes were fiery, but he exited the room with spite. “He acts like Thingol, and he looks like him too.” said Maglor. “Aragorn, you are most certainly a worthy heir of Numenor!” Aragorn smiled. “Thank you. You four should go rebuild Ithilien. There’s a lot of work to be done!”

101 Years Later: Ithilien is complete.
Legolas sighed. He was alone in his bedroom, and he had his face cupped in his hands. A sheet of paper on his lap, stained with tears. He hears a knock at the door. “No…” he whispered. “Are you alright?” it was Maglor’s voice. “No… I’m… no, just don’t come in.” He whispered again. Maglor sighed. “I’m coming in…” he said quietly. He entered, and saw Legolas. “Woah, you alright?” Legolas just sobbed. He didn’t answer. He just kept sobbing. Maglor sat down next to Legolas and wrapped his arm around him, trying to comfort him. “What’s wrong?” he whispered. “Note…” cried Legolas, and buried his face into Maglor’s shoulder. Maglor was shocked when he read what it said, that Aragorn and Arwen had passed, and their son Eldarion, is the new king. Maglor was in shock. He knew how close the two were, and felt horrible for Legolas. “Does… does Elrohir know? Does Elladan know?” Legolas sobbed a no, but it was barely understandable. “Should I call them?” Legolas nodded. Elrohir reminded Maglor strongly of Fingon. He wore his hair like Fingon. Hair braided with golden ribbons, while his brother, Elladan, wore it plain. That made it easier to tell the difference. Elrohir came in first. “I heard.” Tears were in his eyes. “Just cry,” sobbedLegolas. “It’s better for one to cry…” The room was filled with tears for the next hour. Maglor hadn’t felt such intense grief since he and his brother cried over the deaths of Ambarrusar.

“I’m giving in.” Legolas whispered, a few hours later, after he regained his voice. “What?!” said Maglor, worried he would be giving into what his brother gave into before death. It was an absurd fear, Legolas wasn’t all that damaged. It was just old trauma. “To Sea-longing. I’ve had it for a long time, and it’s been tormenting me. Now, I’m going. Do you want to come?” Maglor exhaled. “Valinor? See Amme again? Of course! But, I’m not sure I deserve it…” “You absolutely do. You’ve been here for me. You’re an actual Haru to me and to the twins now. It’s well earned.” The announcement was given to the Elves of Ithilien. The Valar had consented, and they were to go to the Undying Lands… with Gimli son of Gloin, and Samwise Gamgee. Everyone was delighted at the news.

“Why does Galadriel like Gimli so much, Legolas?” asked Maglor in wonder. “Well…” he sighed in reply. “You may be insulted: Gimli asked Galadriel very humbly and politely for a single strand of her hair. He was so shy… it was funny. He was given not one, not two, but three strands of hair. He has them as an heirloom of his house.” Maglor gasped. “Gimli was worthy… I’m not insulted. So it wasn’t her snottyness after all, it was Atar!” “Don’t call Lady Galadriel snotty! She’s nothing compared to my father.” Maglor laughed. “You haven’t met her at full potential.”

After the Ship was Built

The group were sailing on the seas with the remaining elves of Ithilien. “Lad, there’s some land over there!” exclaimed Gimli. He was speaking to Maglor, who happened to be next to him, and made good friends with him after a while. Legolas ran to where they were standing. “That's… thats.. Valinor! It’s right there!” “Sir Elf, sir, why are you so surprised? You knew we were coming here. Most respectfully, sir.” Legolas smiled at Sam’s politeness. “You can call me Legolas, Sam. I’m just shocked, either way. I’ll get to see so many people… it’s incredible!” Sam smiled.

Samwise was the first to go off the ship. “Sam!” he heard a cry. “Mr. Frodo!” he said in joy. They embraced joyfully. Mithrandir and Elrond stood there, smiling. Off came Elladan and Elrohir. “Atar!” They ran to his embrace, and watched as Legolas walked off the ship. “Good morning Uncle Elrond!” he said in joy, embracing him. “I missed you.” Elrond smiled. “I missed you all as well.” Next, Maglor, still shocked he was actually in the Havens again. Elrond’s eyes widened. Legolas feared that his eye balls would bulge out. “Atar?!?!?!” He exclaimed. Maglor had almost forgotten Elrond was there. He simply smiled and embraced Elrond, who was crying in joy. “I’m so glad to see you again. Other Atar is here too. He has two hands!” “I’m glad too, my son.” he said. Then Maitimo, Tyelko, Curvo, Caranthir, and Ambarrusar came running. Maglor was in shock to see them all. “Kano!!! It took you long enough!” exclaimed Maitimo. Before he knew it, Maglor was in the warm embrace of his brothers. “Kanafinwe! It has truly been a long time, my son!” Maglor was shocked to hear Feanor call out to him. He was holding Nerdanel, who was dressed in a beautiful red dress. “Hello Laure.” she said. Maglor hugged his father very tightly.

Maitimo turned to Legolas and the twins. “I cannot thank you enough for getting him here, safe, sane, and sound.” He embraced the three, and they wept in tears of joy. Gimli had come off the ship. “You young rascals! Long have I waited to see you again! And you Gandalf! Ahhh!” and the Hobbits hugged Gimli, glad to see him again. It was unexpected that a good amount of the Fellowship would dwell in Valinor forever. Fingon walked up from behind Maitimo. “You copied my hair, Elrohir.” Elrohir laughed. “I liked it! And Atar described Ereinion as wearing it like this.” They laughed, and embraced together. Ereinion Gil-Galad and Celebrimbor gathered with the twins, with Legolas, and with Elrond. “I am delighted to meet your children, Elrond!” He exclaimed. “Amme!” exclaimed Elrohir, noticing his mother walk into the group along with Legolas’ mother.. “Good to see you three! You’re all so grown up! Come here.” They embraced their mother in great joy. Celebrian and Legolas’ mother were together, hugging the boys in a group. It was such a delight for all of them. “I feel I may explode with joy!” exclaimed Gimli.

Everybody was glad to be reunited with family. A great Banquet was thrown, and joy was amidst the elves. “Let us all live in joy, unto the Dagor Dagorath and beyond!” Feanor toasted. A great cheer was among the group. The twins and Legolas felt there could be no better end to their story.
