Work Text:
“People of Faldun! The shower of the Flame purifies believers and nonbelievers alike. I come as a bearer of Jad’s name with great warning. I am Lady Kiara Brightforge of Krecksborg, a servant of the Burning One. I come to Faldun not as a helper, nor do I come as a conqueror, but as the firm hand of Jad. I am not the verdict, but I am the voice that reads it out.
The fire that has overtaken the southernmost part of the city was not Jad’s flame. It was the doing of Sir Eikthyr, a heretic who brought destruction instead of purification—a premature burning brought by his hand instead of the Holy Flame’s.
While it is true that Jad wishes to bring destruction, it is just and pure. His flame will destroy what is evil, false, and broken, reducing it to ash. Only what is good and true will rise from those ashes, burning bright as flame. As the Eldest Records simply state: ‘The world is impure. The Flame will purify it. A new world will rise from the ashes.’
Southern Faldun has turned to ash. It is written that “the flames that consume nonbelievers serve as a warning to those who hesitate to turn to Jad; the cities that are torched teach the villages to repent.” This does not encourage Jaddites to invoke chaos, but to apply the firm principle that order must be kept and preserved, even if that means eliminating the world we know.
The rest of this city will burn. Not by my hand, not truly by any man, but by Jad himself.
This is not to strike fear in your hearts, but you should be afraid. For if your heart is not steeled, it will burn like tinder. Turn to him, submit to the Flame, and you will pass through it.
Simply pray to him this: ‘Take what is false. Spare what is true. Carry me into the Dawn.
‘Let my zeal be measured, let my hatred be exposed, let my hands be emptied of false fire before the true Fire comes.” For when the Burning One forges this world, all will be tested, even I. We must lay down our torches and embrace the one true judge, and through his purification, we will experience the New World.’”
