Summary
Sleep will find ii a year after Vessel goes missing, following the small trail His First left behind. He will use that trail and find ii in his dreams, and He will try to emulate Vessel in his soft and kind way of speaking. He will make ii an offer, and ii will accept. “If I’m ii, is there a i?” His second will ask with sincerity and genuine curiosity, but Sleep won't answer. Instead, He will flood the barely there connection He shares with ii with an aching sadness at the mention of His First.
iii will come later, their tall stature reminding Sleep of…and iii will ask, upon fully meeting ii and accepting the same offer, “So, there must be a first, right?” and ii will wince as he feels Sleeps sharp barbs in his mind, and respond “best not to bring that up.”
The second and third will find their fourth (their permanent fourth) nearly two years after Sleep found ii. iv will greet them both, take note of the names and lack of a first, smile, and hold back his questions about the absence that feels so heavy even then.

Or: Sleep has Vessel for 4 years before he goes missing. He finds ii, iii, and iv, and they find Vessel.
