mel_luminous I miss you, too.

mel_luminous It's only for the summer, Jayce.

mel_luminous It's been two days.
ForgeNFlex and a night
mel_luminous That's how it usually goes.
ForgeNFlex the bed is so empty im all alone
mel_luminous But at least you get to have some space.
ForgeNFlex i dont want space i want you
mel_luminous Even if i kick you off the bed?
ForgeNFlex especially when you kick me off the bed
Mel smiles at that. She knows he's exaggerating but still it amuses her. He misses her enough to find joy in something that usually makes grunt in annoyance. Which — fair — if you're getting kicked out of bed mid REM sleep.
She misses him, too. Not the kicking him out of bed part. Rather the falling asleep together part. Or the waking up together. Or in the very least trying not to wake the other but waking the other anyway. Mel knows when the spot next to her is empty. Which makes sleeping in incredibly hard. Amongst other things. Being back home makes it hard to sleep in general.
Mel opens his profile picture. It's a picture of them together this spring break. They've been on a picnic and had to call it a day earlier than planned because a gang of geese chose to chase them off the shore. The picture was shot mere seconds before the first goose closed in.
She shot a dozen pictures of him that day yet he chose that picture in particular. He always ends up using pictures of them together. Rarely any of him alone. When she's asked him about that he insisted on using those because he looks happiest in them.
Another ping. A new message plopping up on her display.
ForgeNFlex i dont know how people do this
mel_luminous They usually get up and back into bed.
ForgeNFlex i mean this long distance thing
mel_luminous Long distance?
ForgeNFlex there is a long distance between you and me
mel_luminous That doesn't make us long distance, Jayce.
ForgeNFlex it does
mel_luminous It's just for two months.
ForgeNFlex thats too long im already having withdrawal symptoms i wake up no cuddles no kisses
ForgeNFlex when i had lunch with viktor today i didnt even have to ask you if i can get you smth for later
mel_luminous I miss our cuddles, too.

mel_luminous I never disagreed with missing you.
ForgeNFlex i think you can be a little more dramatic for me
mel_luminous Jayce, my dear, I feel myself come apart at the seams by the lack of your touch. I mourn the person I was and dread the person I will become. Oh, what I would give to seek your warmth out once more.
ForgeNFlex too dramatic but i appreciate the effort
mel_luminous The things I do for you.

mel_luminous I'm aware.
mel_luminous I would offer to face time you, but Hanek just arrived and Katye is already ten glasses too deep in to be the one deescalating whatever will happen next.

mel_luminous Next time I'll take you. Maybe then they wont get into arguments.

mel_luminous You wouldn't. Trust me. You don't know my family.

mel_luminous Not worth the headaches.

mel_luminous My mother would eat you alive.

mel_luminous They — as a collective — will make you feel worse than my mother does on a good day. Their desire to break down a persons confidence is yet to be matched by any other group of people I have ever met.
ForgeNFlex i dont care about what they think the only opinion i care about is yours
mel_luminous You really mean that.

mel_luminous No and that scares me.
ForgeNFlex why
mel_luminous Because it means you really love me.
ForgeNFlex what is scary about loving you
mel_luminous I have asked myself that question a lot of times.
Her cousin steps closer to the table Mel has chosen to recede to. She is Katyes youngest child. One can tell by the joy still filling her eyes. The Medardas have not gotten to her.
Yet.
She asks her about her dress and Mel tells her that she has a dressmaker friend who designed it for her. That she does a lot of her dresses for her. The shine in her cousins eyes only grows. She, too, would like to have a dressmaker friend, she says. Mel promises to introduce her to her friend if she ever comes to visit them in Piltover.
The younger one skips away and Mel can't help but wonder if she must have looked like that to her family too. Once upon a time.
