“Magnificently irresistible,” Alastor corrected, pulling Vincent into a dance right there in the middle of the empty street. He rested his head against Vincent’s chest, feeling the other’s heart race. Something in Alastor—perhaps the obscene amount of alcohol—lowered his defenses. His throat tightened.
“Even though I’ve been here for so long… long enough to forget I was ever human—when I’m by your side, Vincent, that young man from New Orleans throbs in my heart. Even if I lose everything about him, you still find paths back to the old Alastor, lost in frequencies and noise so ancient.”
Vincent looked at him as the wind blew, Alastor’s lashes flickering like butterfly wings, his ears drooping from the cold. He always acted like loving him was so difficult—but Vincent felt that not loving him was the real test.
