PokéScouts (First Year)

Summary:

This is a set of instructions for playing PokéScouts (First Year), the game where you and your troop catch your first pokémon and raise money to support the PokéScouts at the year-end bake sale. Grab your troopmates and a d6, and don't forget to have fun!

Compared to other PokéScouts games, First Year is medium length and easy difficulty.

Work Text:

Intro:

You are members of a brand new pokéscout troop. Your goal is to catch your first pokémon, get all of the badges, and raise enough money at the end of year bake sale to buy supplies for the troop that is going to be starting pokéscouts next year.

Your troop meets every two weeks to catch pokémon, go hiking, or do an indoor activity. You can’t go hiking until every member of the troop catches at least 1 pokémon, and hiking is how you forage for berries to make delicious poffins for the bake sale!

Badges:

Pokéball Decorating badge- earned for decorating a pokéball (hard mode- get the highest score in the troop for that meeting)

Questing badge- earned for looking for pokémon in the tall grass (hard mode- catch one)

Fishing Lure Decorating badge- earned for decorating a fishing lure (hard mode- get the highest score in the troop for that meeting)

Fishing badge- earned for going fishing (hard mode- catch one)

Catching badge- earned for catching a pokémon

Storyteller badge- earned for telling a campfire story (hard mode- get the highest score in the troop for that meeting)

Poffin Decorating badge- earned for decorating poffin wrappers (hard mode- get the highest score in the troop for that meeting)

Poffin badge- earned for making poffins (hard mode- make the best tasting poffins for that meeting)

Dress Up badge- earned for dressing up with your pokémon (hard mode- get the highest score in the troop for that meeting)

Victory badge- earned for meeting the troop’s goal at the bake sale

Stats:

Every member of the troop has a total of 3 stat points to distribute among artistic, cheerful, and encouraging. Artistic skill gives a boost for decorating, cheerful skill gives a boost for catching pokémon and cooking poffins, and encouraging lets you boost other members’ rolls and your pokémon’s foraging.

Except for rolls to determine what pokémon is encountered, before rolls are made, any member of the troop can encourage one other member of the troop to add the value of the giving member’s encouraging stat to the receiving member’s roll.

Rules:

There are 28 meetings. Every meeting the troop votes on doing an activity that is currently available to them (or the troop leader decides). The activities are questing, fishing, hiking, cooking, or playing.

Questing:

Every member of the troop decorates a pokéball, and uses it to try to catch a pokemon in the tall grass.

You can actually decorate a pokéball and present the results to the troop leader, or roll a d6+ artistic skill to see how well the pokéball is decorated.

Roll a d6 to determine what pokémon appears in the tall grass.

1- Weedle

2- Caterpie (+1 cute)

3- Rattata (+1 foraging)

4- Zigzagoon (+1 foraging)

5- Bidoof (+1 foraging)

6- Eevee (+1 foraging, +1 cute)

Optionally, roll a percentile check to determine whether your wild pokémon is shiny (0-99 is not shiny, 100 is shiny).

Whether it is caught is determined by d6 + cheerfulness.

1- The ball misses.

2- The ball shakes once and the pokémon escapes.

3+- The pokémon is caught.

Fishing:

Every member of the troop decorates a pokéball and a fishing lure and uses them to try to catch a pokémon from the pond.

You can actually decorate a pokéball and a lure and present the results to the troop leader, or roll a d6+ artistic skill for each to see how well they are decorated.

Roll a d6 to determine what pokémon is on the line.

1- Magikarp

2- Feebas (-1 cute)

3- Magikarp

4- Poliwag (+1 foraging)

5- Magikarp

6- Goldeen (+1 cute)

Optionally, roll a percentile check to determine whether your wild pokémon is shiny (0-99 is not shiny, 100 is shiny).

Whether it is caught is determined by d6 + cheerfulness.

1- The ball misses.

2- The ball shakes once and the pokémon escapes.

3+- The pokémon is caught.

Hiking (all members of the troop must have a pokémon):

The troop goes to look for wild pokémon to photograph and berries to pick. Everyone has the chance to tell a campfire story. All members of the troop earn +1 bond per pokémon.

Any pokémon (troop leader’s choice) may appear if an odd number is rolled on a d6. Every member of the troop can try to photograph it, and how good the photo turns out is determined by d6 + artistic. A score of 1 or 2 means the pokémon isn’t in the picture at all! A score of 3 or 4 is a little blurry. 5 or 6 belongs in a scrapbook.

Your pokémon will look for berries while you hike. Each pokémon will find 3 x (d6 + foraging + encouraging) berries per hike.

When you reach the end of the hike and go to sleep under the stars, every member of the troop can tell a campfire story. Points are determined by the troop leader if the story is told out loud, or determined by d6 + artistic.

Cooking (all members of the troop must have berries):

The troop decorates poffin wrappers and makes poffins for the end of year bake sale.

Every member of the troop can make a poffin for every berry they found up to 24 poffins per member per meeting. Members can share their excess berries with less lucky members.

Every member can decorate poffin wrappers for a 1-6 score given by the troop leader, or use d6 + artistic to determine the decorating points of this batch of poffins.

Poffins taste better when joy goes into making them. The poffin points for each batch are determined by d6 + cheerful + bond.

Playing (all members of the troop must have a pokémon):

The troop dresses up with their pokemon for a fashion show. All members of the troop earn +1 bond per pokémon. How fashionable you are is determined by d6 + artistic + encouraging + cute.

The bake sale is held on the 28th and final meeting of the year. If the troop sells enough poffins to raise 300 poké per player, they will all earn the Victory badge.

The bake sale:

All poffins the troop made through the year are sold to the surrounding community. The prices are based on how pretty the wrappers are and how tasty the poffins are. Each point a poffin has is worth 1 poké. The community loves to support the pokéscouts, so all poffins the troop makes will be sold!
